Chapter 103 The Bed Is Too Small

After finishing his cigarette. Nathael made his way back to Maggie’s hospital room.

He found Maggie asleep, her arms positioned behind her, still attached to the IV drip.

Nathaei checked the IV bag’s contents and quietly settled into a chair by her bedside, watching over her.

In her sleep, Maggie seemed uneasy. Her delicate eyebrows were knitted together, likely a sign of

discomfort.

Under the soft, dim light, her bare face appeared serene and youthful, missing its usual daytime glow.

Nathael tenderly held her hand, his gaze filled with affection and a hint of melancholy as he pondered her relationship with Ericko. After that, he muttered, “You unfeeling creature.”

Half an hour later, a nurse came in to disconnect the IV.

Maggie, waking from her slumber, sat up groggily on the bed. She looked somewhat irritable.

As she attempted to withdraw her hand, Nathael carefully held it in place, applying gentle pressure to the

where the needle had been to stop any bleeding.

Looking up at him, Maggie noticed his composed demeanour and the slight redness in his eyes.

When Nathael noticed her looking at him, he asked, his voice was deep and resonant, “Do you like what you see?”

Caught off guard, Maggie’s initial confusion quickly became a bashful acknowledgment of his teasing.

She blinked, then answered softly, “Of course.

In her eyes, his allure was undeniable, certain to captivate anyone’s attention.

Nathael’s smirk lingered as he posed the question. “Even better than Sean?”

Maggie blinked and wondered why he would prompt such a comparison.

Of course, Sean was handsome too, but compared to him, it was a different kind of handsome.

People like them always had similar temperaments, and perhaps precisely because of this, they could become friends, but even so, they were different.

Sean emanated a genteel and cultivated presence, his appealing features softened by the frames of his gold–rimmed glasses, evoking an air of scholarly refinement.

Yet, Nathael’s reaction grew more/intense, his hold on her hand growing firmer.

Caught by his piercing look, Maggie asked in confusion, “Who’s Sean?”

Gosh, I almost died.

With a scrutinizing glance/Nathael explained, “He’s the doctor we met earlier.”

more penetrating, your nose more distinguished, and your lips… They’re just irresistible! Sean can’t hold a candle to you!”

Her words flowed freely, filled with genuine admiration and adoration.

She thought to herself, He should be satisfied, right?

However, Nathael’s response was a sneer, hinting at a complexity she hadn’t anticipated, “Your observations are quite meticulous.”

Maggie did not know what to say.

Well, I’m done for.

Why is Nathael’s focus so strange?

The tension in the air grew palpable. Maggie, noting his serious expression, instinctively attempted to lighten the mood by lightly scratching the back of his hand with her finger, teasingly saying, “Don’t be upset. You’re my favourite.”

Upon hearing her declaration of affection, Nathael felt a pang in his chest, his Adam’s apple bobbing slightly.

He studied her for a moment, his eyes probing and curious. He could not shake off thoughts of her past relationship with Ericko.

Was she expressing her feelings genuinely, or was it merely something she said at the moment?

Recalling her previous statement that she would never have feelings for someone like him, Nathael could not help but wonder about the sincerity of her words.

Yet, regardless of the uncertainties, he could not deny the surge of happiness he felt upon hearing that he was her favourite.

“Go back to bed, rest early,” Nathael urged gently, his tone carrying a hint of encouragement.

Observing his composed demeanour, Maggie could not help but feel a twinge of confusion.

Had his feelings for her changed?

She had expected him to react positively when she expressed her affection, but his response seemed contrary to her expectations.

Nathael rose from his seat and switched off the light. After adjusting the hospital bed for Maggie and tucking her in with a blanket, he settled on the edge of the bed.

In the dimness, only a faint glow remained.

Maggie thought to herself, The rain has stopped, and the moon’s out.

Then, she turned her focus to the strange ceiling before turning back to the man.

“Are you not going to sleep?” she inquired softly. Property © of NôvelDrama.Org.

throughout the night.

“Yeah, I’m keeping watch over you, Nathael responded, sensing her gaze upon him.

Once again, the room descended into silence. Whether due to her interrupted sleep or his presence beside her. Maggie found herself unable to drift off.

“What time is it?” she inquired.

“One–thirty.” Nathael replied.

Maggie could not shake the thought. It’s already so late; will he stay here until morning?

This notion stirred a pang of guilt within her.

She had initially approached him for her own benefit, so why was he still steadfastly keeping her company? Wasn’t he afraid she harboured no feelings for him?

Unbeknownst to Maggie, even though Nathael yearned for more, perhaps he found contentment simply being with her in this moment.

At least she allowed him to remain by her side; at least she did not harshly dismiss him.

Nathael thought this arrangement was good enough for him.

After a brief silence, a soft voice broke the stillness, “Nathael.”

“Hmm?” he responded, gazing at her, who stubbornly resisted sleep.

Maggie’s throat constricted, yet she managed to ask, “Would you like to come into bed with me and lie down for a while?”

He had not anticipated her invitation. Nathael remained stunned for a few moments, his throat subtly moving as restrained desires stirred within him at her seemingly innocuous words.

Maggie’s cheeks tinged with red, her ears burning hot as she steadfastly met his gaze.

She was thankful for the darkness shrouding the room, concealing her flushed face from his view.

Maggie wondered what his response would be.

If he declined, she vowed never to concern herself with him again. She would simply turn away and fall asleep, regardless of his reaction.

But that scenario would be rather embarrassing.

Her heart raced, uncertain of his thoughts at that moment. Then, a deep voice broke the silence, “Okay.”

Maggie smiled, shifting slightly to make room, and whispered, “The bed is a bit small, but we’ll manage.”
