Chapter 750 Only For The Boys

An expectant look formed on his face. But soon Theresa threw a wet blanket on his enthusiasm. “I just happened to be awake and came to open the door for you.”

Clad in pajamas, she felt cold and then hurried back inside. When Charlie closed the door behind him and walked in, she had already settled herself on the sofa, covering a blanket to keep warm.

He asked, “Is Ben awake?”

“Not yet.” She added, “Sit with me for a while. I have something to say to you.”

Upon hearing that, he ambled over and sat down next to her. With his eyes locked on her, he went on, “Why did you suddenly send me a message in the middle of the night?”

Holding a cup of hot water with both hands, she allowed her face to darken after hearing him mention this. “I couldn’t sleep last night, so I went to check on the boys. That was when I saw Ben crying on his bed.”

As a mother, she had to be concerned about her son’s mental health. Theresa averted her gaze to him. “I don’t know if you’ve ever noticed it, but he is different from Leonard. He’s not good at keeping things to himself and he’ll lay out anything he feels. Because of what happened between us lately, he seems to be very upset. Especially after seeing you with Sarah…” Belonging © NôvelDram/a.Org.

When Charlie heard this, guilt was etched into every line of his face. “I’m sorry, it’s my fault.”

After casting him a glance, she smiled bitterly. “I don’t mean to blame you. Last night I talked to him and said we had made peace with each other, but he did not believe me. So I had to tell him that you would come to see him first thing in the morning. That’s why I sent you a message.”

Once he heard this, he fastened his eyes on her and move up the corner of his mouth. While this matter

had her worried half into the grave, he actually smiled! She flared at him, “Are you feeling very smug?”

He really didn’t care about their children at all!

“No!” Charlie denied with an innocent look, “I just feel glad that you can let me share your worry. You know, you don’t have to bear that burden alone.”

Speechless, Theresa uttered, “If it wasn’t for the boys, I wouldn’t have contacted you. Don’t think too much about it.”

He nodded. “I know. I’ll tell Ben that we’ve made up with each other, to cheer him up.”

Only then did she soften her attitude toward him. “I thought as much. They’re so young. I don’t want them to live in sadness and despondency during childhood because of us.”

Dispirited, he said as he fixed his eyes on her, “I know.”

Before he came, she was quite nervous. After their talking, she became relieved to see that they reached an agreement easily and that he didn’t make any excessive demands on her.

Charlie stated, “Then I’ll go see him, I haven’t seen him for a long time.”

“Go ahead.”

After receiving her permission, he then stood up and went straight to the boys’ room. At this moment, they were still sleeping. He eased himself to their bed. Seeing that Leonard’s leg had been stretched out on the quilt, he then tucked Leonard in again. Then he sat beside Ben.

This little one looked exactly like him when he was little. There were a few surviving photographs of him as a child. If comparing the photos with the boys, one could find that they resembled him when he was young. He was the “grown-up version” of them.

Charlie did not wake them up, but looked at them quietly. About half an hour later, when Ben turned over and then opened his eyes, which were still fogged with sleep. But the moment he saw his father, he widened his eyes in shock.

Charlie showed a smile. “Good morning.”

Ben still couldn’t believe what he saw. Remembering the conversation with his mom last night before. going to bed, he was surprised that she didn’t lie to him and Charlie really came!

Charlie’s appearance made him self-conscious. After all, he had been angry with Charlie for a few days, and now he didn’t know what kind of attitude he should embrace to talk to Charlie.

Without hesitation, Charlie flung his arms around the little boy. “What? Cat got your tongue?”

The comfort of his arms helped dissolve the nagging lump of tension in Ben’s chest. Ben’s little body melted his heart. Nestling in his arms, Ben looked up at him. “Daddy.”

“Mm.” Charlie said gently, “Finally forgive me?”
