My Mirror Image by Maybe Not (Candice And Alex’s)

Chapter 0464

Chapter 0464

Candice frowned, sensing that something was wrong.

She stopped the nurse leading the way ahead. "Excuse me, is this the way to the examination room?"

The nurse didn't turn around, her voice muffled by the mask as she replied, pointing to the chairs nearby. "I'll go register your information. You wait here and someone will come to call you later."

She went straight to the reception desk. Although Candice felt unsettled, she noticed a few young women sitting there, one of whom showed obvious signs of pregnancy.

After hesitating for a moment, Candice went over and sat down. But as soon as she sat down, she heard a faint sobbing.

She glanced over and saw a young girl with a weary face murmuring, "Baby, Mommy is sorry..."

Candice was taken aback, then heard the pregnant woman sigh deeply.

Unable to bear the depressive atmosphere, she spoke softly to Candice, "You're so young, why are you here for this?"

Candice keenly sensed the regret in her words. She hesitated to speak, but then heard her name being called from the front desk.

Looking up, the feeling of unease grew heavier in her heart.

She reflexively turned back to the woman who had spoken to her and the other woman still quietly sobbing. Suppressing her fear, she asked, "Is this really the place for amniocentesis?"

-

Candice didn't know how she got out. The floor she had been on was completely sealed, without a trace of light from outside.

There had been no one else around, and the sound of her footsteps had echoed through the corridor.

Passing by an elevator, she had happened to see a woman lying on a gurney, her face pale and bloodless. The white sheet covering her was thin and light.

Candice's heart had skipped a beat, making it hard for her to breathe.

She hadn’t dared to enter the elevator, feeling that as soon as she did, she would see those two women lying on the hospital beds.

She’d had to find the stairs and climb up by herself bit by bit.

Finally, when she had reached the stairs, she had breathed a sigh of relief as she stepped out of the hospital, feeling the tight grip around her throat loosen.

Her entire body was covered in cold sweat, and she finally regained warmth under the sunlight.

Candice's complexion was not good, almost transparently pale.

She looked back at the direction of the hospital building, feeling like it was a monster with its mouth wide open.

"The abortion clinic." The woman's tearful voice still echoed in her ears, sending shivers down Candice's spine.

She dared not think about what would have happened if she hadn't run.

Her whole body trembled uncontrollably as she gasped silently with her chest heaving.

A shadow fell from above, and Candice looked up, still with a frightened expression on her face.

Alex stood in front of her. After seeing her expression, his entire body froze.

She maintained her posture, staring at him fixedly until he struggled to ask her, "Have you finished the examination?"

His mention of the examination brought back the fear that Candice had just managed to suppress.

Her voice was hoarse, almost unable to make a sound, "Why are you here?"

When she had left the area, she had endured her fear enough to ask a nurse at the registration desk why she had ended up in the abortion clinic when she had come in for an amniocentesis test.

The nurse had pointed to the registration book and said, "Candice Renault, right? Didn't you come to schedule an abortion a few days ago?"

Her name was clearly written in the registration book, along with her specific information.

Everything matched.

The only thing that didn't match was the husband's column, which had the name Alex written on it.

Alex.

Candice pinched her palm, gritted her teeth, her eyes red as she looked at Alex, almost roaring, "Tell me, why are you here? What right do you have to decide the fate of my child? This is my child, it has nothing to do with you! What right do you have? What right?!"

Candice couldn't stabilize her emotions. In the end, she choked up and couldn't speak anymore.

The oppressive atmosphere of that place made her feel panicked. After seeing Alex's name left in the relatives' signature column, she felt as if she were frozen in ice.

Countless possibilities had flashed through her mind in an instant, but in the end, they all exploded into a blur and confusion in her mind.

She really wanted to ask him why he did it. Why wouldn't he let her go?

Candice stared at Alex and tears fell from her eyes, as if all the grievances that had been accumulated for so long had finally burst.

Alex looked at her and noticed that something was wrong with her. He frowned slightly and his voice was low as he asked, "What are you talking about?"

He reached out halfway towards her as if he wanted to wipe away her tears, but was pushed away by Candice.

There was a despair and pain in her eyes that Alex had never seen before.

"Don't touch me, Alex, you disgust me too much."

"Candice?" From far away, Hanley’s anxious voice sounded, drawing closer.

His gaze first fell on her tearful face, then he looked at Alex, his gaze icy.

He walked over a few steps and directly pulled Candice to his side, frowning as he asked, "What's wrong, what happened?"

Candice looked at Hanley, unable to speak. She could only shake her head.

However, Hanley's expression instantly turned cold and fierce. His gaze was sharp as ice as he stared at Alex, and he questioned in a deep voice, "Alex, what have you done?!"

Alex narrowed his eyes at Candice, and hearing Hanley's questioning, his attitude became even colder, "Who do you think you are?"

Hanley's gaze sank, about to speak, but Candice grabbed his sleeve.

He turned his head to look at Candice, only to see her shaking her head, closing her eyes, and hoarsely saying, "Stop it, I don't want to see him anymore."

Hanley instantly frowned. He reached out and held Candice's wrist, softly humming, "Okay, let's go home." Copyright by Nôv/elDrama.Org.

Candice nodded, murmuring, "Mmm, let's go home."

When she followed Hanley away, she didn't look at Alex once.

She was really fed up.

The fear that gripped her heart had not dispersed yet, and Candice was still clinging to Hanley's sleeve.

She needed a support point right now, otherwise, she didn't know if she would collapse.

As for Alex, he watched Candice leave with Hanley without any expression on his face.

His pitch-black eyes were filled with emotions, his lips tightly pressed together, and even his hands were tightly clenched.

It wasn't until his phone suddenly rang that he answered it without any emotion. On the other end was a gentle woman's voice.

"Hello, the prenatal screening appointment you made at Dorrington Maternity and Child Health Hospital is scheduled for this afternoon. Please arrive at the hospital between 2.00 and 3.00 p.m.

for the examination..."
