My Mirror Image by Maybe Not (Candice And Alex’s)

Chapter 0492

Chapter 0492

Alex's mind was totally blank and it was hard to even react.

Until Candice, reminded by Yana, turned around with the child in her arms. Ellis had stopped crying, lying in Candice's arms, clutching her shoulder and sobbing softly.

Alex saw clearly, a very cute child, fair and chubby, with eyes that looked a lot like Candice's. Text © 2024 NôvelDrama.Org.

It took him a while to find his voice, which was tight and hoarse. "Candice, so, is this your child?"

Candice felt a sinking feeling in her heart. She had been so focused on comforting Ellis that she had forgotten about Alex following her.

She hesitated for a moment, pretending to be calm. "Yes."

"You..." Alex opened his mouth, but could not say anything. He closed his eyes, his expression still complex. After a while, he asked in a low, hoarse voice. "Was your miscarriage fake?"

Candice looked at him, her eyes cold. "Are you disappointed? Alex, I've emphasized many times, the child has nothing to do with you. If anyone from your Elysian family dares to harm my child again, I will fight back with all my might even if I die!"

Candice's words were resolute. Ellis was all she had now. She wouldn’t let any harm befall her.

There was no particular expression on Alex's face, but it was not the usual distant indifference, but a bewildered blankness.

He didn’t know what expression he should have, or what he should do. He just stared at Candice and the child in her arms.

For some reason, Alex's heart beat very fast the moment he saw Ellis, and when he saw her cry, he felt a tightness in his chest.

He moved to approach and take a look at the little one, but a hand blocked his way.

Yana said with a stern face, "You are not welcome here. Please leave."

She looked at Candice, who took Ellis directly into the ward without saying a word. The meaning was obvious.

Yana closed the door behind them and only asked after they had left, "What should we do now?"

Candice hadn’t expected things to escalate so suddenly. "I'll take Baby Mulberry back to South City."

Although this wasn’t a particularly clever plan, it would buy them some time.

However, they didn’t manage to leave. In the evening, Ellis suddenly developed a fever.

The doctor said it was because the wound was slightly infected and she needed to be observed in the hospital. Candice had no choice but to stay.

When Yana came back with dinner, she blamed herself even more. "If it weren't for me, Baby Mulberry wouldn't have suffered so much. I really regret it. It wasn't something important. Why did I have to go get it today?"

"It's not your fault. Who would have known William would be there?" Candice said softly. Ellis had just gotten her injection and was asleep.

At the mention of William, Yana's expression turned even worse. When she went out earlier, she called a friend and found out that William was a troublemaker, but unfortunately, his family was rich

and influential. He caused harm and did bad things everywhere.

The social news caught wind a couple of times, but the stories had been suppressed by using his family's money.

This time, it was the Frowler family who bailed him out.

Candice was not surprised. Knowing William's temperament, she didn’t want to dwell on this matter anymore. Apart from anything else, if William ever decided to retaliate, he might harm Ellis again.

She admitted that she really didn’t dare to provoke William.

Ellis couldn’t be left alone, so while Yana was there, Candice went to buy toiletries and happened to receive a call from Hanley.

She checked the time; it should be morning on Hanley's side.

Indeed, Hanley's voice was hoarse as if he had just woken up. "Yana said Baby Mulberry was injured. What happened?"

Candice told him about the incident with William.

Hanley said, "If William really has intermittent mania, it's best not to have any contact with him. When Baby Mulberry recovers, you should leave Dorrington."

"That's what I was thinking too. But I'm afraid of running into him in South City. It just so happens that I'm preparing to go to Mincher. I'll go straight from there."

She had made up her mind in the afternoon. William was not someone to mess with. So, she would just hide for a bit. It was unnecessary to confront such a person. Doing so would be like cutting off one’s nose to spite one’s face.

Hanley didn’t speak. It took him a while before he sighed. "Even Romeo and Juliet meeting is easier than for us to see each other. I'm preparing to return to the country, and you're preparing to leave."

"You're coming back to our country?" Candice was surprised. She thought Hanley would stay abroad for a while longer.

"My mother's condition has stabilized," Hanley said.

-

After staying in the hospital for three days, Ellis finally had no problems, and Candice took her home.

Yana had wanted to come and pick them up, but she couldn’t get away from work. Candice said she could hire a ride herself, but Yana didn’t agree.

She felt responsible for Ellis' injury, so she had to take full responsibility.

She immediately messaged her group chat. "A friend is being discharged from the hospital today. Who can help me pick her up? Will be greatly appreciated!"

Many people replied, mostly idle rich heirs. Yana found a girl she knew well and didn’t pay any more attention to it.

When she looked at her phone again, she found that someone had mentioned her. It turned out to be Sieg. He asked, "Which friend are you picking up?"

Yana realized belatedly that she had posted in the wrong group chat - in the Dorrington rich heirs group.

But then she thought again, it should be fine.

...it should be fine.

But she didn’t dare to tell Candice. After all, if Candice found out she had leaked news again, she probably wouldn’t ask for help in the future.

-

The friend Yana found was a very enthusiastic girl, who came to the ward to help Candice pack her things.

The weather was gloomy, with occasional thunder, and it was likely to rain soon.

The girl carried the luggage to the front, a little worried. "Please, don't rain. I don't dare to drive when it rains."

Candice wanted to comfort her and say that she knew how to drive too, but she spotted someone in the distance.

Alex wore a black shirt, his eyes lowered as he stood beside his car. The gloomy weather seemed to cast a melancholy aura over him.

As if sensing something, he raised his eyes and looked at Candice, the dryness evident in his dark, somber gaze.

Candice pursed her lips lightly, unsure whether to continue moving forward or otherwise, when he approached directly.

He walked up to the girl in front of him, his voice low. "Give me the luggage. I'll take them back."

The girl was somewhat surprised, her eyes shifting between Alex and Candice before cautiously saying, "Isn't it inappropriate?"

Before she came, Yana had instructed her that it must be her personally who would take Candice back to the hotel, and no one else should interfere, especially not Alex or Sieg.

Although she didn’t understand why, she remembered Yana's words very clearly.

"Indeed, it's inappropriate," Candice said after a moment of silence. "I'm not acquainted with him."

Upon hearing her emotionless denial, Alex felt a pang in his heart, but he still spoke with a tight throat. "I have something very important to ask you."
