A Naive Bride for the Sophisticated CEO

Chapter 16: The perfect wife for our son

Chapter 16: The perfect wife for our son

They got to the back of the company, and James yanked Amelia forward carelessly, making her almost fall to the ground on her face.

“What were you thinking? What the f**k is wrong with you? What kind of stupid makeover is that?!”

Amelia jumped at the sound of his vexed voice. She gulped hard and her eyes heated up in no time.

“I… I’m sorry, I…”

“Don’t you dare cry! It doesn’t have any effect on me! Didn’t you check yourself in the mirror?!” He yelled.

“I did, but my friend told me it was nice! I am not a fashionista but she is, so I believed her. I’m sorry, Mr. James. I had to wash my face when I heard the reporters’ comments while I was passing by. I’m very sorry for this embarrassment. I’ll bear the consequences for this.”

“Of course, you will. You’re fired! You can’t keep doing this to my company. You aren’t worth stepping foot into my company.”

James turned to leave, and Amelia fell to her knees and hugged his legs tightly so that he wouldn’t move.

“Please, I beg you, Mr. James. Don’t fire me! My uncle is going to hate me for this. I can’t tell him I got fired when I’m yet to pay for the crime I committed at the party. Please, I won’t do it again. I promise! It was a stupid mistake, it won’t repeat itself. Give me one more chance!”

Amelia cried hard and loud. She was so scared. How was she going to tell her uncle she failed him the second time? She was pretty sure he was yet to sign her uncle’s contract because of her.

“Let me go, you ugly thing!” James shouted in disgust.

“Please. I won’t leave you alone, Mr. James. Give me one more chance. I swear, If I do anything wrong again, I’ll leave before you fire me. Please…”

She raised her head to look at his face. He had a fierce look, but she still wasn’t ready to let him go. Not until he accepts her again.

“What is going on here?” They both looked up to see Charles approaching them. He seemed confused.

“Thank God, you are here. Can you please tell your friend’s daughter to let me go? She is ruining my Dormeuil Vanquish pants!”

Amelia shook her head in tears and hugged his legs even tighter, burning her legs in them.

The scent of his cologne, at that moment, gave her more comfort than anything else in the world.

“Amelia, can you please let him go? You are truly ruining his trousers.”

“No, Mr. Charles. If I let him go, he is going to fire me.” Text © owned by NôvelDrama.Org.

“So this won’t make me fire you? God, Amelia, when will you grow wise! You are a graduate!” James uttered in anger.

“Fire you? You want to fire her? Why would you do that?” Charles asked in disbelief.

“She isn’t supposed to be in the company in the first place. I shouldn’t have listened to you at all. You told me she is very good and will help the company, right? Look at the news! She has disgraced the company for the second time!”

“Okay, everyone calm down. Amelia, let go of his legs, and you James, you are not firing her. Not after that the video I watched a few minutes ago.”

“Video?” James asked.

Amelia slowly let go of his legs but didn’t stand up. She was still on her knees, and James moved away from her.

He wanted to walk away, but Charles stood in front of him, making him stop.

“James, are you thinking at all?” He grabbed his hand and pulled him aside.

“Dad, don’t try to talk me out of this. Can’t you see how she acts? She is stupid, she doesn’t know anything about fashion. Will you let someone like her work in your company?”

“Yes, I will. Stop saying such horrible things about her, okay? She isn’t exposed, and that is the best kind of person you need. She isn’t like the other women that had worked with you. You have slept with almost all of them, even in the office.”

“Dad, is this about work? What does sleeping with women have to do with what I’m telling you? I need a more competent lady. Good in all areas.”

“And she is the best for you! The chairman showed me the video of her prevention. James, this girl is good! What are you thinking? After years of trying to get financial support from this company, she finally helped you get it. What else do you want?”

“I want her to act like an adult! She cries over every little thing, her fashion sense is the worst I’ve ever seen.”

“And after that? What else has she done wrong? You haven’t been with her for a whole week yet. Can’t you give her a chance to change? Give her the chance to prove she is better than the others.”

James heaved a sigh and looked at Charles’ face. He narrowed his gaze at him, and Charles arched his brows.

“What?”

“Why are you so eager to help her? Is it because she is your friend’s niece?”

“No! It is because I see potential in her! This kind of girl won’t get you distracted. You can never think of sleeping with her, which is a good thing. She is innocent, and she is the best for you…”

“Not for me.”

“For the company then! James, listen to me, okay? I am your father, and I’m telling you to give her a chance. It’s just her first day. You can’t fire her”

“I’ll think about it.”

James wanted to leave, but Charles pulled him back again. He knew James wasn’t going to think about it, instead, he was going to look for someone else. He wasn’t going to let that happen.

“Give her a month. After a month, if she keeps dragging the name of the company in the mud, I promise I’ll bring you a new secretary. You know I always bring you the best.”

James looked at Amelia, who was still kneeling. Her head was bowed, and she was still crying. He exhaled softly and rolled his eyes.

“A month, James. I’ll talk to her too,” Charles uttered.

“Hm.” He bounced his head, buried his hand in his pockets, and strutted away.

“Amelia, get up,” Charles said as he approached her.

She raised her head and saw that James was gone. She sprang to her feet in terror and began to fidget.

“He is gone?” She cried.

“Can you calm down now? He is gone, but he has given you a chance to prove your competence.”

“Really? Oh my God, thank you so much, Mr. Charles. Thank you.”

She held his hands happily, and Charles looked at his hand in hers. She noticed the way he looked at her hands, and she quickly let go of him.

“Sorry. I got too excited.”

“I talked to him because I like you, Amelia. But, I won’t be able to do that again after today. You can handle this job better than anyone else, and I want you to prove that.”

Amelia nodded and listened attentively to what he said. “I’ll try all my possible best. Thank you for helping me.”

“I did this for my friend too. I don’t want him to lose the contract he needs James to sign. The contract is on you now. You need to find a way to James’ heart. If it means changing your wardrobe, then do it. He mustn’t find any more faults in you.”

“I’ll try my best, Mr. Charles. I’ll do everything it takes to find a way to his heart. I’ll make sure he signs that contract. Thank you, sir.”

She gave several bows as she talked, and Charles smiled softly. “Now, go back to your boss, and act like the secretary you are. Wipe your tears.”

Charles pulled out a handkerchief from his pockets and stretched it to her.

“Thank you so much, sir.”

She collected it and wiped her face with it. She held the handkerchief firmly and walked away.

After she was gone, Charles pulled out his phone and dialed his ex-wife’s number. He placed the phone on his ear and waited for her to answer the phone, and she did after a few seconds.

“Charles?”

“Hi. Can we talk? I think I’ve finally found the perfect wife for our son.”
