A Successful Career After Divorce

Chapter 117 Disappointment

But she really didn’t want to let go of Brendon this time.

For once, Ranita tugged at Brendon’s clothes desperately; not wanting to push him away no matter what Shannon said or did.

“How are you, Ranita? How did you end up in a car accident?” Shannon asked as she rushed over, but there was a loud thud as her knee hit the edge of the bed.

Ranita’s head felt like it had been struck hard. She grasped Brendon’s clothing in an attempt to hold onto him, but he was quick to support Shannon. “Did you hit it?”

“I’m sorry Brendon! I didn’t mean it… I was just worried!” Shannon frowned apologetically while choking up, “It’s all my fault for being clumsy.”

“My knee hurts…can you take a look at it for me?”

Behaving as if there was no one else present, right in front of Ranita, had tested her patience. Even someone with the best manners would find it hard to tolerate. Her expression darkened, and she said coldly, “Miss Murphy, since you’re injured why don’t you go find a doctor? What use is there for Brenden helping?”

“I just wanted Brenden help me take care…” Her voice sounded soft yet hooky with twists and turns that made even harsh words sound pitifully helpless sometimes…

“Brendon, I didn’t mean to! It’s all my fault; I’ve upset Ranita again!” Shannon said, living up to her entertainment industry background, on the brink of tears, struggling to appear strong and not let herself cry.

Ranita was at a loss for words.

*Thud!*

Just then, the hospital room’s door was kicked open, and Dylan’s mocking laughter rang out, “Shannon, I think you should quit playing the cello and become an actress! Honestly, if you don’t win the Best Actress Award this year, I’ll be the first to be surprised!”

Dylan’s sarcasm left Shannon momentarily stunned. “Mr. Webster… What do you mean? Are you saying I’m acting now? I didn’t act. I was genuinely worried about Ranita and that’s why I got into the accident. It really hurt!”

Shannon bit her lip, her voice trembling and strained as she held Brendon’s hand. “Brendon, it’s all my fault; it feels like I’ve made everything worse.”

“Brendon, you stay here and take care of Ranita, and I won’t be in your way anymore,” Shannon said, choking back tears, swaying as she limped towards the exit.

Ranita watched Brendon, instinctively reaching out and grabbing the hem of his clothing, looking up at him with a hopeful gaze.

Brendon, just this one time, stay with me, please?

But, the woman was destined to be disappointed.

“Shannon…” Brendon caught up with Shannon in a few quick steps, gently supporting her and frowning. “Be more careful.”

“Brendon, I’m fine! You take care of Ranita; she needs you more!” Shannon pushed Brendon away gently with both hands, but her trembling body kept rubbing against him.

“I’ll take you to see the doctor first and come back to check on her later,” Brendon said before leading Shannon away.

As soon as the man’s back disappeared, tears filled Ranita’s eyes.

“Ranita! What’s wrong? Are you feeling unwell? Please, don’t cry…”

Ranita suddenly shed tears, frightening Dylan.

“Ranita, Brendon is a bastard! Don’t cry for him!” Dylan’s nose was tingling, wishing he could feel her sorrow on her behalf.

Ranita hung her head, trying to suppress her emotions, but it was impossible. There was just too much pent-up frustration, so much that there was no room left to contain it in her heart.
