Chapter 86 Voice Recorder
“Oh… I remember now. Ranita, how dare you block me! I haven’t settled the score with you yet!” Holly seethed as she recalled the incident. Her earlier good mood vanished in an instant, and she tugged at her skirt, storming toward Ranita. “Let’s settle this debt right now!”
Holly was itching for a confrontation.NôvelDrama.Org holds text © rights.
Ranita expertly sidestepped Holly’s attack and firmly grasped her wrist. “Holly, I overestimated you,” she remarked coolly.
Holly yelped in pain as Ranita applied pressure to her wrist. “It hurts, it hurts! Ranita, let go of me! If you dare to move, I’ll have the bodyguard throw you into the pool!”
Ranita pushed her away and retrieved a pen from her pocket. Amid the ticking of the pen, Holly’s bluster resounded, “You actually have the nerve to come… don’t mind… being thrown into the pool… and kneeling down…”
Every word was meticulously recorded.
“Ranita! What are you doing?” Holly, upon hearing the playback, stared at Ranita with fury blazing in her eyes.
Ranita calmly turned off the recording pen.
“I don’t care… Miss Stuart, if you don’t step aside, I’ll let Brendon listen to it…”
“Give it to me!” Holly was so enraged that she seemed almost capable of breathing fire. “Ranita, how can you be so cunning, secretly recording! Give me the recording right now, or I won’t spare you!”
As Holly moved in to snatch the recording pen, Ranita prepared to evade her. However, a deep, male voice suddenly cut through the tension. “Holly, what are you trying to do?”
“Chris…” In an instant, Holly transformed from a fiery presence to a timid quail as she gazed at Chris with an innocent expression. “I didn’t do anything.”
She shot a warning look at Ranita, her eyes reflecting fear.
“Is that so?” Chris didn’t confirm whether he believed her or not. He simply spoke calmly, “I heard from the servant that Mrs. Stuart is looking for you. You should go see her.”
Holly’s eyes stayed locked on Chris, and she didn’t really want to leave. Yet, if he discovered she was bullying Ranita, how could she explain herself?
Teenage infatuations can be so complex.
Holly departed with reluctance.
“Thank you, Mr. Webster!”
“Don’t be overly polite with me,” Chris replied in a composed tone. He then inquired, “What brought you here?”
“Mrs. Cather and composer Arthur are here.” Ranita’s words conveyed that she wasn’t entirely comfortable attending Shannon’s welcome party given her identity.
“Do you need any assistance?”
“Not at the moment. We can discuss it further over the weekend.” Ranita conversed with Chris under the dimly lit path. Their combined attractiveness and charisma created an atmosphere charged with ambiguous tension.
Holly turned around secretly, her heart heavy. The sight of Ranita being so well-treated by Chris, his eyes half-lidded in that manner, hinted at some deep connection between them.
Holly felt like her heart was shattering.
“You’re unbelievable, Ranita!” She’d had her sights on Holly’s brother, and now she was cozying up to Chris? Holly clenched her fists, her teeth gritted, wishing she could give Ranita a piece of her mind.
But with Chris present, she didn’t dare approach them. If Chris witnessed her behaving terribly, would he start disliking her or think less of her? Would he assume she wasn’t gentle or virtuous enough?
Holly was seething, but eventually she managed to regain her composure. Suddenly, she noticed Turner approaching from the other side, causing her heart to skip a beat. She promptly lifted her foot and headed toward him.
