A Successful Career After Divorce

Chapter 920: Celebration

Ranita originally thought Brendon would return in a couple of days. Instead, he was gone for a week. Meanwhile, the celebration at Bowman’s Mansion proceeded as planned. Alexia booked a villa as the venue and invited some friends and family, but mostly young men she favored. There were wealthy heirs, business elites, and unmarried corporate executives; essentially, anyone worth inviting was invited.

Everyone understood the situation. Ostensibly, it was a celebration for Benedict’s recovery, but in reality, it seemed like an event to find a suitor for the family’s daughter. However, when they learned it was for Ranita, who had a child, there was a moment of silence.

If it had been Chole, many wealthy young men would have been willing, as marrying into Bowman’s Mansion was appealing. But now it was Ranita. It was said that Ranita was an adopted daughter of Bowman’s Mansion and had a child… Many people came just to see the spectacle.

From the moment Ranita entered the banquet hall, she felt everyone’s eyes on her. She wasn’t being narcissistic; she understood why they were curious.

Ranita sighed quietly as Rodolfo approached her. “Ranita, you look beautiful today.”

The dress Ranita wore was personally chosen by Alexia. The light blue gown accentuated her height and long legs, and her exposed shoulders highlighted her delicate collarbones, making her look both elegant and alluring. After several days of rest, her complexion had improved, and her gentle smile exuded charm.

“Thank you,” Ranita replied, holding a glass of champagne and nodding politely but not warmly.

Rodolfo didn’t leave. “I heard you were sick recently. Are you feeling better now?”

“I’m fine, thank you.”

The conversation was trivial, but Ranita had to muster the energy to respond. Out of the corner of her eye, she saw Alexia looking over, seemingly satisfied.Content property of NôvelDra/ma.Org.

Ranita felt helpless.

After Rodolfo, several other young men came to greet her. Most of them lacked strong family backgrounds.

Ranita dealt with them one by one and then found a corner to catch her breath. Just as she sat down, Chole appeared with Shannon.

“Why is she here?” Ranita frowned.

“Hehe, I brought her!” Chole paused and then smiled. “We’re all curious about what kind of suitors Mom found for you.”

“But from what I see, except for Rodolfo’s decent background, the others are just gold diggers waiting for you to rescue them!”

Chole mocked her and then belittled her further. “But then again, you’re not the real daughter of Bowman’s Mansion. It’s normal that the truly wealthy young men wouldn’t be interested.”

Shannon chimed in with an innocent expression, “Chole, don’t say that. After all, Ranita has a child; it’s somewhat inconvenient.”

Their words were harsh.

Ranita couldn’t afford to offend them and decided to avoid the confrontation.

Benedict and Alexia were present today, along with many guests invited by Bowman’s Mansion. If any unpleasantness occurred, it would only bring embarrassment to Bowman’s Mansion.

“If you like it here, you can stay,” Ranita said as she stood up.

But in the next second, Chole reached out to stop her.

“Wait! I’m not done talking yet. Don’t be in such a hurry to leave!” Chole’s face was full of smugness.

“Chole, what do you want?” Ranita lowered her voice, trying to keep her temper in check. “Today is Dad’s celebration. I don’t want to argue with you!”

“Hehe! You’re so noble…” Chole sneered coldly. “But I insist on causing you trouble.”

With that, Chole poured the red wine in her hand onto Ranita’s dress.
