Chapter 679
Chapter 679 Take Responsibility
Chloe splashed some water on her face in the bathroom, trying to shake off the tension before stepping back into the living room.
Half an hour later, William arrived at the villa, and just in time, as the takeout James ordered-McDonald's-had also arrived.
Candy eyed the McDonald's bag, her expression one of disdain. "KFC is the king of fast food!"
James snorted dismissively. "McDonald's is timeless!"
Chloe couldn't help but chuckle at their childish banter over which fast-food chain had the best chicken wings. It was amusing how they could bicker like kids, neither willing to back down.
Just then, William chimed in, "Is this what you guys eat when I'm not around? This junk food with zero nutrition?"
Both of them promptly shut their mouths, but within seconds, they turned to William, ready to argue their case.
Chloe sighed, "Can we please get back to the serious stuff?"
To her, it didn't really matter whether they had KFC or McDonald's; the important thing was the conversation ahead.
"William, your brother has tracked down Chloe in Mamaica," Michael stated flatly.
William's breath hitched, and he instantly understood the gravity of why they had called him.
"He's targeting Chloe again? What's going on this time?"
The others exchanged glances, and finally, Chloe placed her preventive medication on the table. William's eyes widened in shock as he saw it.
"He..."
His voice trailed off, emotions swirling in his gaze. He hadn't expected his estranged brother to do something so heinous to Chloe.
"Chloe needs to take preventive medication for twenty-eight days. We've already caught him," Michael added, his tone serious.
William ran his fingers through his hair, clearly taken aback by the severity of the situation.
Chloe took a deep breath, her resolve firm. "William, you're my friend, and I didn't want to hide this from you. Your brother could ruin my life, and I won't let him get away with it. I'm just letting you know what's happening." Chloe had never considered forgiving Erik.
He had brought her to this state of constant fear, and the possibility of infection loomed over her.Nôvel(D)ra/ma.Org exclusive © material.
Just because she knew William didn't mean she would forgive his brother.
She called William over just to let him know that she would be retaliating against his brother.
William looked at her, his expression a mix of empathy and
understanding. After a moment, he said, "Chloe, I know this isn't fair to you. But rest assured, even though he's my brother, I won't stand in your way.
"Every time he targets you, he becomes just another stranger to me."
Chloe met his gaze. "Thank you for understanding."
"That guy is just a pawn in someone else's game. I've already arranged for him to meet with whoever is pulling the strings. Soon, we'll find out who's really behind this," Michael said, determination in his eyes.
He was resolved not to let that person off the hook.

The pain inflicted on Chloe would be repaid a hundredfold.
"Chloe, I apologize for my brother's actions. Even though he shares my blood, his behavior doesn't reflect who I am. I won't plead for him," William stated, his tone firm. Everyone in the room expected this response.
Candy asked, "What about your parents?"
"They don't need to know about this," William replied curtly.
His father's infidelity years ago had led to a family rift, and they had never considered bringing that illegitimate child back into their lives. Why stir up old wounds now? Besides, William's mother had never cared for that child, wishing he had never existed at all.
Why should they waste their thoughts on someone who meant nothing to them? "William, thank you for being so understanding," Chloe said again, her gratitude evident. She knew this decision wasn't easy for him.
Sitting on the couch, William rubbed the back of his neck, a sign of his own stress. "Once the twenty-eight days are up and we get the test results, whatever the outcome, I'll take responsibility."
