Chapter 26
Chapter 26
Anna is surrounded by wolves, snapping and snarling at her. The largest one shifts into his human
form; his aura giving off immense power. He must be an alpha.
‘Anna, you have broken the law, with my son, who is no longer Alpha,’ he says. This must be my
grandfather, Alpha Cal. Anna gasps.
‘What have you done to him?’ She asks, and Alpha Cal laughs.
‘My impertinent son is locked up in his own dungeon indefinitely where he will be punished
regularly.’
‘You're a monster!’ She yells.
‘How do you plead, Anna Glint?’ He asks.
‘Being in love should is not a crime! You are defying the Moon Goddess, objecting to her choosing
me as your sons' mate!’ She yells.
‘The Moon Goddess would never curse the werewolves, with a witch as one of our mates. You
obviously bewitched him!’ He snarls.
‘I love Levi! And he loves me! The Moon Goddess wants us to be together! I never bewitched him!’
She yells.
‘You’re sentenced to death for breaking the law and bewitching my son! Get her!’ He yells, and the
werewolves shift, and grab her arms, in a lock-hold, as tears roll down her cheek.
I cry while they drag her for miles, before reaching hundreds of people waiting around a wooden
post. They tie her to the wooden post, and Alpha Cal takes a wooden lit torch from a bystander, and
stands in front of her.
‘Any last words witch?’ He asks, and she glares at him.
‘I, Anna Glint, of the Healers coven, curse you, Alpha Cal. For my death shall be avenged by your
own bloodline. The day you see my face again, is the day you will die!’ She yells, before looking
beyond his shoulder, directly into my eyes.
‘Mum?’ I tremble, but she smiles and nods. Alpha Cal turns to look to where I’m standing.
‘Who are you staring at?’ He yells. My Mum is the only person who can see me; I’m invisible to
everyone else.
‘Mum!’ I scream, running towards her.
Alpha Cal throws the torch at her feet, and flames spread across the hay and up the pole, and my
mother screams in pain, as the fire engulfs her. The screams stop, and I fall to my knees, crying.
Alpha Cal chuckles behind me. I stand up, wipe my tears away, and face my grandfather, who’s
laughing.
‘I will avenge my mother, if it's the last thing I do!’ I yell, though I know he can't hear me. NôvelDrama.Org holds this content.
Running towards the lake, I cry; it’s the only place I’ve ever felt safe. The baby is crying, and a few
people are gathered around it.
‘It's been abandoned,’ someone says.
‘Well pick it up. Alpha will decide what to do with it,’ the other says.
Following them to their pack house, they approach Alpha Tate's father. Alpha Tate is four or five
years old. It’s weird seeing him at this age.
‘What is this?’ He asks.
‘We heard cries and found it in the forest.’ The alpha grunts and sighs.
‘I can smell it's wolf, so it's not a human, vampire, or a witch,’ he states. An elderly woman is
sweeping the floor nearby.
‘Our current slave will drop dead in a few years. This baby will replace her,’ he says, shrugging.
‘Who is going to look after her in the meantime?’ Someone asks.
‘Give her to the slave. The baby can be her problem!’ He snarls.
The old lady takes the baby and leaves the room. I vaguely remember her. She died just before I
was five; when I started doing all the chores, and the beatings began. I want to follow her but the vortex
sucks me back to my world and time. Closing my eyes, I’m dizzy. I’m back under the tree and no longer
transparent.
I just witnessed my mother's death! When I was found and became a slave! I lie down on the
grass, and stare into the distance in shock; watching the sun set, and the moon appear.
When the moon appears, and darkness consumes me, I reluctantly stand, and return to the castle
in a zombie-like trance.
After an hour, I still haven't reached the castle in my human form. I plod along in a trance. I haven't
even noticed Maximus, and the others, in front of me, talking to me, and waving their hands in front of
my face.
I feel like an empty shell. It’s not until Maximus cups my face in his hands and kisses my lips that
I’m smacked awake. He sends sparks through my body, and ignites my inner flame and soul. He is
horrified by the state I’m in. The pack members stare at me, concerned.
‘We’ve been looking for you for hours. Did something happen? You were in a whole different world.
You couldn't see us or hear us,’ he says.
I know what I have to do.
‘Maximus... I need you to take me to the Dark Moon pack,’ I demand.
‘What! Are you insane?’ He asks.
‘There’s something I need to do,’ I say, gently.
‘What do you need to do that's so important that I need to endanger your life by taking you there?’
He asks.
I manage to speak one word before I black out in his arms.
‘Kill,’ I whisper, and I slip into darkness.
‘Damn it! She is burning up again!’ Maximus yells, running with me in his arms. He doesn't bother
undressing either of us before getting straight into the shower, holding me, and drenching us.
‘You have to let me in. You have to tell me what’s going on,’ he whispers, as I stir awake from the
cool water.
‘Do you love me?’ I whisper.
‘Of course, I love you! I would die for you! I would do anything for you,’ he answers.
‘Even if I'm not what you think I am?’ I ask.
‘You’re my mate and that’s all that matters,’ he whispers. I burst into tears, wrap my arms around
him, nuzzle my face into his neck and cry for a long time.
‘I love you too. No matter what,’ I whisper.
‘No matter what,’ he whispers, and kisses my forehead and sweeps my hair from my face tenderly.
He runs his fingers down my neck and chest; his eyes and fingers resting on the ruby heart.
‘I've never seen this before.’ He grips my hand over his, holding the heart.
‘It belonged to my parents,’ I say, with a sad smile.
He looks at me, confused.
‘I thought you didn't know who your parents were? I thought you were found as a baby in the
forest?’ He says.
‘I just found out who they are. It's important you take me to the Dark Moon pack as soon as you
can!’ I say, with urgency.
‘Who are your parents? What do the Dark Moon pack have to do with your parents?’ He asks.
‘There’s something I need to show you,’ I say, trying to crawl out of the shower.
He wraps his arm around my waist, and pulls me back onto his lap.
‘You’re not well! Stay here till your fever breaks. I’m putting you on bed rest. Once you’re well
enough, you can tell me everything. If we still need to see Alpha Cal about the treaty, we will go then,’
he says, his word final.
I’m laughing in hysteria, my body is burning up, and I see flashes of my mother being burnt at the
stake. I feel her pain, her burns, and her heartbreak over never being in her mate's arms again. My
laughs turn into screams of pain.
‘Alex, Bella, Beth! Anyone!’ Maximus shouts.
‘It hurts! Please stop the fire, stop the fire! Don't let him kill me!’ I scream.
‘I'm not going to let anything happen to you. Who do you think is going to kill you?’ He asks.
‘My grandfather... Alpha Cal…’ I manage to say, before erupting into screams of pain again.
