An alarm shrilled in her head. The bag she was holding fell down as her mouth drop opened.

Alright. This is probably a dream.

She squinted her eyes just to be sure.

George quickly pushed her away and sighed.

“What are you doing here?. You couldn’t even knock”he clears his throat.

Janelle slowly spun around. She didn’t miss the dead look Betty was throwing at her.

Something so gruesome just happened right in front of her eyes.

She suppressed the urge to cry as she moved out of his office.

*Divorce* her inner mind chanted.

She suddenly turned back and went inside.

She met them having conversation. Prolly talking about where to meet to spend the night together. That’s only what it might meet.

She took her bag and walked away.

He didn’t even bother to call her back.

She didn’t even bother to greet her. For Christ’s sake, she’s her boss’s wife.

Since she is now having s*x with him, she is a nobody in her eyes.

“Mrs McFarland, are you okay?”someone asked.

“Me?, perfectly fine. Thanks for asking tho.”she tried to conceal her emotions.

“Here’s your goods. Thanks for coming”Janelle’s mom beamed while handing over a nylon to the customer.

He nods and walked out.

The bells jingles indicating and incoming customer and the door being opened.

“Welcome.”she greeted without actually looking at the person.

She was busy inputting the goods she have sold on the computer and calculating the amount.

“Hi, mom”she hears.

Huh?

She looked up and on seeing Janelle, she gasped.

“Janelle!”she called with a tone of surprise.

What’s she doing here?.

She is suppose to be at work by this time.

She came to where she was and hugged her.

“Ooh, my daughter. How I so much miss you. Anyway, what’s happening?. Why are you here?”

Janelle went to carry a chair in the store room and sniggers.

“I bet you aren’t happy to see me.”she said and sat down on the chair.

“Ow, don’t utter rubbish. Infact, I’m more glad to see you but then, it’s surprising. You are not the type to visit without any prior notice so.. itself kinda odd”

Janelle smiled and scoured her eyes around the room.

“Mom”she called.

“Yes?”

“Why did you still insist on running a convenience store when you could just start a huge business and… even if you want to continue running this store why not employ someone to do so for you”.

Her mom sighed and smiled.

“I love being simple. And, the joy of getting to meet new faces every time, joy of being behind that computer, joy of hearing the bell jingles whenever a customer is coming in, I think it’s because of that”

Janelle scoffed with a smile.

“In all nutshell, I love what makes me happy the most”her mom added.

Janelle opened the bag in her hand and brought out the plates of fried noodles and chicken.

“You care for some?”

“Nope. I just finished having Korean Ramyeon. If I should have this also, it will make my face puffy”

“Alright. I will just finish this myself”

She opened the plate and took a forkful of the noodles then shoved it in her mouth.

“It’s actually good”

“Bet it is”

Her mom watched her as she ate the food.

After some while, she finally decided to ask what was bothering her.

“What are you doing here, Janelle?”she slowly asked.

Janelle looked up at her.

“I know you aren’t happy to see me”she said amidst munching.

She grab the bottled water and drank it.

“Ah, that’s refreshing”

“Alright, truth be told, I miss you so I decide to come see you”

“All the way from your house or office?”

“Office. I don’t have enough work at hand so don’t worry. I just miss you so much that I could barely wait for Sunday to come. Actually, I plan to give you a surprise visit on Sunday but then… here I am. Things happened and I find myself here”she said and stabbed the chicken.

It takes a while for her mom to digest her words.

“Is something going on between you and George?. You don’t look happy”

“Ah, I’ve been so busy this days that I don’t have much time for myself. Nothing is going on between us, mom. We are more fine infact”she lied.

“Alright. But don’t hesitate to let me know if you guys have any misunderstanding. One that’s very serious”

“I won’t”

Janelle finished the food and smiled in satisfaction.

Alright. Her belly is gonna bust any time soon. Well, that’s more okay than giving the food to a cheat!.

“I will bade you goodbye the next thirty minutes. Now that I’ve seen you, my mind is at rest”

“You must miss me so much”

“So, so, so, so much”

She receives a text message from Diana.

•Where did you go?•

“Out for breakfast.”

•Can I join?•

“No. I want to eat alone”

•Weird… alright ?•

She drop her phone and stood up.

“You’ve lost weight, Jan”

“Yep. I will gain it back once I’m on vacation next month”

“Where did you go, miss Janelle?. A client came by and it’s a shame to tell the client the prosecutor isn’t around”

“The last time I checked, Lewis, I’m not the only prosecutor here”

On getting home that night, she prepared a meal of Spaghetti.

She only cooked for herself.

When the food was done, she dished it out in a plate and went to the living room then sat down.

She turned on the Television and changed the channel to Soap Opera.

While watching the movie being shown, she was seriously enjoying her meal.

Minutes later, the door opened with George coming in.

She did as if she didn’t see him and continued scooping some spaghetti in her mouth and watching the film.

“Blo^dy cheat”she cursed him under her breath.

As he walked past her, she spoke up.

“I want divorce, George.”
