Betrothed To The Mafia Lord

Chapter 366

Chapter 366

Sofia’s pov

Luca was leaning against the doorframe, with his hands folded around his middle for only God knows

how long. His curls were in disarray, framing his face and sticking out in different directions, making it Content © provided by NôvelDrama.Org.

obvious that he had pulled the hell out of it throughout the whole of today.

His face was expressionless, but there was a slight pinch of skin on his forehead, proving that he was

deep in thought. I couldn’t help but swallow emptily, the sound echoing around in my head like it had

echoed through the entire sitting room.

I didn’t know what to say, and so I averted my gaze and glance around the sitting room for a minute.

On a normal day, he’d have been eager to have his hands on me. It doesn’t even have to be sexual,

sometimes he just want to hold me in his arms to reassure himself that I was safe and sound in here,

away from all dangers– his words, not mine.

But now, I wasn’t sure of how to react.

Do I just wave at him without getting up from the couch? Or do I walk up to him and just welcome him

without touching him?

I bit on my bottom lip as I thought long about what to do, before finally pushing up from the couch and

walking around it, slowly closing the distance between the both of us until I was only a few feet away

from him.

I blinked up and him for a moment, and then I looked away, feeling really unnerved and out of my

depths. His gaze was so intense, it made my skin feel extra sensitive to the air conditioner, with how

shivers were sliding down my spine.

I wet my lips hesitantly as I attempted to speak.

“Uh, welcome.” I murmured and then I glanced up at him. He was still in the same position, and his

face gave no indication that he had heard me, but something akin to a frown was now on his face.

“You’re late today once again. Is everything fine at work?” I asked when he didn’t respond.

“Everything is. I’m taking care of it.” He finally responded, voice husky and low. I bit at the insides of my

cheeks as I nodded my head at him in response.

I wrapped my arms around myself after that, averting my gaze and feeling like I need some sort of

cover over myself.

“Matilda already retired, but she set the table before she did.” I paused for a moment. “You took extra

long to return tonight, so most of the food might have gotten cold. We’d have to reheat some of the

food.”

“You know, you don’t have to wait up for me everytime before you have dinner.” He spoke after a few

moments and I flinched as his words pierced into my heart.

“But–“ I attempted to speak but he shook his head.

“It’s unfair to you, I feel bad enough already.” He responded, brows pinched together.

I frowned a little. “You feel bad enough…? Did something happen?”

I watched as he instantly shook his head, hands loosening from his middle to hang at his sides.

“Nothing important happened. I’m just saying I feel bad about making you wait up for me before you

have dinner every day.” He explained and the air I hadn’t realized I had sucked in slowly eased out

from my lungs.

“But, it’s unfair for you to ask this of me. You know I worry about you and can’t help but be worried.

About the entire thing that happened back in New York and the thing that happened with your brother, I

just can’t help but always be paranoid– and you’re not helping this way by acting all weird and unusual,

it’s only making me worry more!”

I didn’t even realize I had began to speak until the words were ringing loudly in the room as I spoke. As

I trailed off, I bit the inside of my cheeks and hugged myself tighter,

I watched as he glanced at his feet for a moment after I had spoken completely. He looked back up at

me and made to take a step closer to me before shaking his head and deciding against it, I also noticed

his hands flexing at his sides before he finally shoved them deep into his pockets.

“Sofia…” He breathed out and I flinched, taking a step away from him. My heart was hammering

harshly against my chest and I wanted to do nothing but curl up in a ball and cry myself to sleep.

I don’t even feel hungry any longer.

I took another step away from him, forcing myself to not give into the tremble that was threatening to

engulf me.

My lips trembled as I spoke, voice coming out softly, barely audible.

“You never call me that.”

I watched as his mouth parted a little in realization before he dragged his palm over his face and groan

into it.

I exhaled deeply and blinked a couple of times on realizing that my eyes had began to sting, which was

nothing but the telltale sign of incoming tears.

I would not cry now.

There’s no need for me to shed tears over this right now.

I said to myself over and over again in my head as I stared at Luca who was still at the entrance of the

sitting room.

“Bunny…” He began to speak once again but I shook my head and held out a hand.

“No.” I exhaled a long breath. “You can refer to me as ‘Sofia’, that’s my real name after all.” A dry

chuckle left my mouth after that, even though there was clearly nothing funny in this current situation.

A heavy silence descended over us after that, while we both stared at one another. A few more

moments passed and before I decided I’ve had enough.

I was about to head out of the sitting room, planning on going into my arts room and locking myself in

there until heaven knows when, but as I made to leave the room by squeezing myself pass the little

space remaining due to Luca still standing in the doorway, he reached out and stopped me with a hand

clamped on my wrist.
