Chapter 22
Wednesday 16th September, 2020 (Continued)
Jamie’s POV
I had seen it just before Georgianna sent poor Star flying across the room. I supposed even the vengeful Georgianna could not deny the similarities between us. She was the only other Witch Luna I had ever heard of though she had not gotten a proper chance at being Luna. Perhaps I was meant to free her. It had flashed through my mind. Alto’s lifeless body. The mourning had gone on for days. Georgianna had locked herself away. Oleander had taken over the pack. He had besmirched Georgianna’s good name. He had hid Alto’s body from her, burying it somewhere Georgianna had not been able to find. Georgianna had been consumed by hatred living a wraith-like existence. She had tried to do away with herself but she could not pass on. She could not sleep. Not without her Alto. We needed to find Alto’s grave. We needed to lay her to rest with her mate. She had been denied him in life. She refused to be denied him in death too.
“We have a lot of work to do,” I said. “And it’s going to be dangerous but we need to get it all done as soon as possible!”
“Tell us what needs to be done,” said Jonah assertively.
“Alto’s body was concealed somewhere unbeknownst to Georgianna by Oleander. It was Oleander’s final insult to Georgianna. Hiding her mate’s body. We have to reunite their bodies so they can rest together,” I explained.
Jessie raised his eyebrows. “So Georgianna is dead too?!”
“Yes, but her she lingers own. Her curse remains. She is very powerful and restless. She can’t rest without Alto!” I said, my heart breaking for her.
“But then we have two bodies to find! Alto’s and Georgiana’s,” said Jessie.
“Yep,” I said, smiling at my mate for catching on so quickly.
I loved how much respect Jessie had for magic.
“Ok, so where do we start looking?” Asked Zaya.
“Alto’s body might be easier to find right? He’s gotta be buried on one of our properties or somewhere related to us, the Quinn family,” suggested Jonah.
Jessie nodded. “It’ll be Georgianna’s body that’ll be difficult and dangerous to find. She won’t want us messing around her body at first. I guarantee you she won’t trust us or think we’re trying to help,” said Jessie with a sigh. “For Alto’s body, just ask your grandfather and other older pack leaders or members for leads.”
“We’ll need to research Georgianna a bit. Find out where she might have chosen for her final resting place!” I said.
“What about fooling the curse?” Eli asked. “Are we still doing that or did we blow it? I’m pretty sure she knows our mate is Star now!”
“Don’t get rid of the decoy just yet!” I instructed.
Jonah sighed.
Noah nodded sadly.
Zaya made and exasperated sound.
Eli took a deep breath.
“We should probably bring Alto’s body to Georgianna and not the other way around. I doubt it would be wise to try moving her body when she’s…around…” Jessie trailed off.
It was worth a try.
“Yeah, as soon as we locate them both, we’ll bring Alto to Georgianna once feasible,” I said.Published by Nôv'elD/rama.Org.
Star was very quiet.
“You ok, Star?” I asked.
She nodded mutely. Noah went over to her and enveloped her in his arms.
“You said the decoy is having premonition dreams right?” I clarified with Jonah.
Jonah nodded emphatically. “She is! She saw Damocles’ death.”
“Ok,” I said. “What about Star is she having the same dreams or is she unaffected.”
“She’s good,” said Jonah, smiling. “She hasn’t mentioned any dr-…”
Star cut Jonah off. “I…I’m sorry I didn’t say this sooner but I am having the premonition dreams too! Just like how I saw that vision of Georgianna that Jamie saw. I must have shared the dream of Damocles with Angelique,” Star said apologetically.
I nodded, sighing.
Jonah looked crestfallen. Noah paled and gripped Star closer to him as if someone would grab her at any moment. Zaya and Eli edged closer to Star. The younger two had been reluctant to believe in the curse but they’d just seen Star levitate so they were probably believers now.
“What does this mean?” Asked Jonah anxiously.
“It means Georgianna is a bit uncertain which girl is your fated mate and which is your not fated girlfriend,” I said. “I would’ve preferred if none of her targets were Star but this could work. At least she is unsure.”
“Won’t she be sure after today?” Asked Eli. “Star was here!”
“No, not necessarily,” I said. “If Star was a decoy, we could include her in a ritual like this. People see the world how they are. They also factor in their past. Georgianna knows treachery so she won’t be quick to believe anything too straightforward. She’ll be cautious, keeping an eye on both girls,” I explained. “You know what would really help Star be in the clear?”
“What?” Asked Jonah softly.
“If she had another fake love interest to add to the mix,” I said.
Star actually smirked. Noah tightened his hold on her. Zaya and Eli closed ranks a little and Jonah growled.
Jessie roared in response to Jonah’s growl at me which made all the Quads step back a little like a litter of frightened pups who had upset their alpha Dad.
“Sorry, it was a reflex. I don’t mean your Coven Mother and Luna any disrespect,” murmured Jonah.
Jessie stalked over and snatched me up, pulling me flush against him.
“Ok,” he said, accepting Jonah’s apology but his tone suggested we’d be leaving sooner rather than later. I pleaded with him with my eyes.
“I don’t like this whole decoy mates thing idea! But Jamie is trying to help conceal Star. That would be confusing if Georgianna saw Star with a guy,” Jessie admitted.
“Do you have any trustworthy male friend?” I asked, not the least bit perturbed by Jonah’s growl. Werewolves especially alphas growled and snarled all the time.
“Yes!” Exclaimed Star excitedly. “Toby!” She squealed.
Jonah growled again, this time at Star’s words. Jessie sighed and rolled his eyes at this behaviour.
“That’s great,” I mumbled, eyeing Jonah.
“Toby is gay,” Star added, looking pointedly at Jonah. “But he can be my fake boyfriend. He would find that hilarious. I know exactly what to do!”
Jonah was seething despite being the one who had a fake girlfriend. Alphas were so territorial but still wanted to do their own thing. Jessie kept me snuggled against him, my cheek pressed to his chest and the top of my head in the crook of his neck.
“Operation fake boyfriend commenced!” I said with a laugh ignoring Jonah.
I felt totally safe with Jessie.
“Meanwhile, Quads, you guys talk to as many old relatives as possible to try to figure out where Alto was placed. You can also ask them if they have any idea what became of Georgianna. I’ll do my own research too,” I said.
I was thinking I could use a ouija board and try to contact Alto or better yet Oleander as he might know where both were buried.
“Star! Come here!” I said, wanting to do one final touch for extra safety.
Star came over her eyes wide.
I kissed her forehead gently. The place where my lips had touched shone in the shape of an actual star. The blindingly white glowing star faded into her skin.
“I’ll know when you’re in trouble ok and so will Jessie through our bond! The Quads can’t mark you yet so this way we can track you,” I explained.
“Thank you!” Said Star, the immense gratitude was apparent on her face.
“Thank you Luna and Mother Jamie!” Said Jonah.
“Thanks so much!” Said Noah.
“Thank you!” Said Isaiah and Elijah in unison.
“You can call me Jamie!” I insisted. “You’re most welcome!”
I winked at Star and hugged Jessie’s waist. I made us both teleport back to our chauffeur. I wished I could have seen the Quads’ faces as we disappeared.
Star’s POV
The Quads jumped as Jamie and Jessie vanished into thin air.
“Cool!” Said Zaya.
Eli waved his hands where they had been.
“She’s nice but her mate has so much attitude!” Grumbled Jonah.
“Who Jessie? Hmmm, he reminds me of another alpha I know whose name also begins with J,” I said pointedly.
Jonah flushed but ignored my statement for the most part.
Noah was quiet and pensive. I wrapped my arms around him and buried my head in his chest. He hugged me back.
“If Star and Angie are both suspects then will Georgianna target people in both of their social circles?” Asked Eli.
“Yeah,” said Jonah sadly.
My heart rate picked up. Noah held me closer. I sighed into his shirt. I was anxious but I was a tad amused to make the Quads jealous. I knew Toby and I would have a blast!
