Chapter 16
Chapter 16
There was no way for Madison to argue when he spoke in such a tone.
“It’s not that I’m all heart. I may not get along with Lucas, but his parents have always been kind to me. Sometimes I wonder if they picked up the wrong baby.” Madison chuckled softly, head bowed.
How could such kind-hearted in-laws have given birth to a child with Lucas’s skewed moral compass?
“So, you’ve decided to care for your ex-mother-in-law?” Ethan’s brows were already furrowed.
“I’ll go and see them, at least inform them about the divorce. One should always finish what they’ve started.” Madison replied.
Looking at the clear-eyed, straightforward woman in front of him, Ethan felt that maybe the world wasn’t all bad.
At least, it hadn’t yet tainted this woman’s pure heart.
For some reason, Madison felt the need to say more. As they walked toward the garden, she whispered, “I may seem foolish in the eyes of powerful people like you. But I would rather have people call me foolish than point out my faults. Despite the unpleasantness between Lucas and me, I cannot deny the kindness his parents have shown me over the years. When I get the chance, I’ll visit them, clear things up, and then we’ll probably never meet again.”
“Why tell me all this?” Ethan didn’t look back.
Madison frowned slightly, taken aback.
Wasn’t it because he kept prying into her affairs?
When they got into the car, Ethan continued to ignore her.
Madison felt an inexplicable sense that he was sulking, but fearing she was overthinking, she decided not to say anything out of turn.
She thought to herself, no wonder everyone says Mokuno International is such a great company to work for. With a senior executive who cares for his employees’ lives like this, it’s no wonder the company is thriving.
Ethan, lacking x-ray vision, naturally could not sense Madison’s inner thoughts. Ccontent © exclusive by Nô/vel(D)ra/ma.Org.
However, once they returned to Slandon Harbour by helicopter and Madison asked for leave, Ethan felt slightly frustrated.
“You’re really going?”
Madison blinked, “…”
She was a little surprised at how much her superior seemed to care about her personal life.
Ethan looked irritably over at William, “Don’t we have another itinerary? Let’s go!”
Twenty minutes later, Madison was dropped off at the address she’d given for Lucas’s parents.
Ethan didn’t look at her, “You go. I have time. Come out when you’re done.”
William, his co-pilot, was puzzled: What other itinerary? Why didn’t I know?
Madison awkwardly smiled, not wanting to hold up Ethan’s work, “You don’t have to wait for me. I’ll get back on my own.”
Ethan’s sharp gaze swept over, “Are you going or not?”
Madison quickly got out of the car and left.
Watching the woman enter the villa, William sighed, “Mr. Grant, you are pushing her too hard. Everyone needs a process. How could she learn a profound lesson if she doesn’t experience it herself?”
“Experience it?” Ethan laughed, “If something happens while she’s experiencing it, who can ensure her safety?”
Ethan wasn’t sure what he was feeling.
On one hand, he somewhat resented Madison’s kindness and compliance, while on the other hand, he wanted to protect her innocence.
But reality wouldn’t be gentle simply because she was a woman; in fact, it would be even more ruthless.
Just as they finished speaking, a car parked about ten meters behind them.
that one wearing a mask is Sophia.” William was
ook out his phone and snapped a photo of Lucas holding Sophia, nen sent it to Michael on F******k, hoping to stir up some drama.
Michael replied quickly: Are you trying to kill my cousin?
Ethan, looking at the couple clinging to each other, could already imagine what Madison, who had just entered, would look like.
Five minutes ago.
Madison had just entered the home of Lucas’ parents and was immediately surrounded by the elderly couple.
Lucas’s mother had been a strong woman in her youth. It was largely
due to her wisdom that their family business had achieved its current scale.
Lucas’ father was a gentler and kinder elder, with little rules or restrictions. Each time Madison visited, he would personally cook for
her.
Back when she lived here, Lucas was always busy and often away on business trips.
During her difficult periods, it was Lucas’s mother who kept her
company. On women’s holidays, such as Women’s Day, Valentine’s Day, or her birthday, when Lucas wasn’t home, it was Lucas’ mother who would buy gifts for her.
