Chapter 37
Sydney stared down at herself, shocked at what just happened. She couldn’t still fathom why Paxton would call her in and pour his hot coffee on her when she didn’t slack on her duties.
However, she managed to keep her mouth shut, swallowing the pains as they came.
Paxton relaxed on his chair and looked at her from there, his raving temper had died down and felt calm after using Sydney to quench that anger.
He didn’t like what he did nor hate it, he enjoyed seeing her suffer and that just made him smile.
“Too tasteless, get me another coffee” he ordered, glaring at him from where he sat.
She nodded and skittered out, as she made his coffee a lot of thoughts clouded her mind. Paxton must be so mad at her even without her doing nothing, he just hates her naturally hiding under the disguise of her trying to ruin his brother.
Pfft… this was getting harder than she had imagined.
She finished making the coffee and went to serve him, as she placed the coffee on his desk she caught a glimpse of his face. It was filled with gloom and hatred, he never retires does he?
Paxton brought the cup to his lips, he had barely taken a sip when he pushed the cup away, his face void of any emotion.
As Sydney saw that she stepped back swiftly, praying that he doesn’t pour the coffee on her again.
“It’s too hot and bland. Have you ever bothered to make use of your hands! Take this away and make me another coffee.” He said in an irritated voice, sweeping Sydney with his fierce eyes.
“Okay sir,” she gulped, carried the coffee and went to fix another one.
She dragged her feets to the coffee making machine and started making another one. She made sure to pay attention to it and tasted it to be sure it was in good temperature before proceeding to serve him.
With beady eyes she stared at him, hoping he wouldn’t spit it out and throw out another complaint. She was already tired as it is and couldn’t undergo the task of making him another coffee. She wasn’t the damn secretary that made him a tasteless coffee but she got burnt instead.
Blood surged through her veins and she pushed her lips into her mouth fighting the urge to cry. But she couldn’t hold on for long as she allowed the stubborn tear to slide down her cheeks.
She felt the need to cry and punch anything she could lay hands on, she was miserable, so miserable that she couldn’t do anything even if she was to fight for her rights.
“Much better, you can leave” he said mindlessly and Sydney couldn’t be more happier.
“Okay sir.” She muttered and walked out of the door.
As she got back to her office she recounted all that had happened and only then did she realize she still had the coffee smell on. She immediately rushed to the restroom to clean up.
Her eyes watered at the sight of her swollen neck, flashes of how Paxton emptied his cup of coffee appeared before her eyes and she didn’t know when she whimpered. This content © 2024 NôvelDrama.Org.
Her eyes held on the spot till she couldn’t stare no more. Paxton wouldn’t let her be, no matter what she does he just wouldn’t let her be! She tries to please him and get on his good books but it only gets worse, what more does he want from her.
She has given all that she could and now she doubts if she can continue sucking in all of his bullies. She did nothing wrong in applying for a job, if only Jaxton hadn’t gotten into the picture then her life wouldn’t have been this miserable.
The thought of quitting her job hovered around her but then again how would she cope. What if she doesn’t get another job how will she feed?
The thought was as scary as it sounds. Though she was hurt and all still she has no intention in quitting her job, maybe she should bear a a little longer. Things might get better soon, at least less worse.
She dismissed the thought and washed of the stain the coffee had left.
“Aisssh… ” she winced as cold water touches her swollen neck.
Sydney had barely settled down in her office when her phone dings from her purse, she brought it out but on seeing the caller ID she groaned and fell lazingly to her chair.
“What does he want?” She panicked, biting her nails as she contemplated picking it.
After delaying for some time she picked the call and brought the phone to her ear with her stomach making horrible noises.
“I was beginning to get worried, were where you anyways?” His disgruntled voice washed down her throat and she swallowed a huge pile.
“I uhm.. just got in.” She lied.
“Alright. Meet me in the park in five
minutes,” he muttered, suddenly sounding sweet.
The last time he said those words to her he took her to a hotel and now she doubts if it wasn’t for same reason.
Has he ever bothered to just take her out for lunch maybe, he’s making her look like a slut with his incensant callings. This time she made up her mind not to fall under his wings, she had already gotten an armful from Paxton and Jaxton was the least she expected.
“Sydney? Are you there?” His voice rang, sending her out of her thoughts.
“I’m sorry Jaxton, I’m having a really rough day can we do this later?”
“You are not going to place me on hold, are you?” His brows curved as he stared at the screen of his phone pissed.
“It just work and all that, it’s really not the right time-”
“Don’t fucking play that game with me, Sydney!” He yelled, cutting her short. “You are getting out here this minute.”
“I refuse- can I ever get past you guys? Just fucking leave me the hell alone, I don’t wanna be in any of this mess nomore, just leave me alone.. ”
“Then be ready to kiss goodbye to your precious job and be prepared to face the hasrg public when I eventually reveal your secret.”
“What did I ever do to you guys?” Her voice wavered, giving in to his seductions.
“Get here before I change my mind, Sydney Jefferson.”
