Chapter 1143
Quincy lifted his head and said, "Since it seems there's no sincere intent to cooperate, let's call it off and head back."
The factory manager's expression tightened instantly. He quickly tried to persuade them, "Wait a moment, everything's negotiable. If the offer seems too low, why not stay the night and rest? You must be tired from the journey." Quincy was about to decline when Lydia cleared her throat.
He glanced at her and then changed his mind, saying, "Alright, we'll stay the night."
As night fell, Quincy turned to Lydia. "Why did you choose to stay?"
He doubted it was because she was genuinely tired.
Lydia's eyes sparkled with mischief as she replied, "No business is ever entirely clean. I noticed something illegal in this factory earlier, and I need tonight to confirm it. If I'm right, we can report them and shut this place down." She was visibly excited at the prospect.
Quincy asked, "Are you sure?"
"If I'm right, with the right connections, we can shut them down without any trouble," she assured him. "I need to get some payback for what we went through today."
Without hesitation, the two set off to investigate. Just as they were deep into their search, a cold voice suddenly spoke from behind them, "What are Mr. Quincy and Miss Fay doing out here so late at night?"
Hearing the familiar voice, Quincy froze for a moment before turning around. The factory owner stood there, holding a flashlight, his face looking ghostly pale in the dim light.Exclusive content © by Nô(v)el/Dr/ama.Org.
Lydia immediately felt a wave of fear, but Quincy gave her a reassuring look. He responded calmly, "Just taking a walk. We're feeling a bit tired now, so we'll head back."
As they moved to leave, the factory owner stepped forward, blocking their path. "Leaving so soon? You've come all this way, and now you just want to walk away?"
"We accidentally wandered here and didn't see anything." Quincy said, though he had already sent the evidence elsewhere.
The factory owner narrowed his eyes. "Is that so?"
Lydia's palms began to sweat with
nerves. She regretted her decision to pursue this and wished she had just taken Quincy away. If anything happened to him here, she would never forgive herself.
Quincy remained unfazed, saying, "You should know that Mr. York is expecting us back. If we disappear, I'm sure he'll turn this place upside down to find us."
The factory owner let out a derisive laugh, dropping all pretense. "You think Mr. York would care that much about a mere assistant?"
His eyes were filled with contempt,
and Quincy felt a chill run through him. Dealing with smart people wasn't scary. They could understand your words and see the bigger picture. But the real danger lay in dealing with fools. One could
predict their irrational thinking.

Lydia quickly added, "We're Mr. York's right-hand people. If something happens to us, it won't go well for you either. Let us leave, and we'll pretend we didn't see anything."
As she spoke, she nervously clenched her fists. The factory owner seemed to ponder her words for a moment.
Quincy seized the opportunity, grabbing Lydia's hand and shouting, "Run!"
They took off like a shot, sprinting away.
Realizing what was happening, the factory owner snapped out of his thoughts and yelled, "Stop them! Don't let them get away!"
