It’s been over a week now since I have been living peacefully in my new home. Well, not really peaceful since I have Ryan as my new next door neighbour.
Even after my warning, he still finds a way to come closer or talk to me. It is as if he didn’t even heard what I said that day. Whenever he sees me, he tries to start a conversation with me.
Every morning, on my my to work, he stands at the front of his gate and waves at at me like I am his wife. It made me wonder if he actually had something doing because he is always in front of his gate every morning. Doesn’t he go to work??
The rate at which this was going was making me very furious. Why is he always everywhere?? When I couldn’t bear it any more, I decided to just ignore him. But that didn’t make him stop.
I would have reported him for disturbing my peace of mind but I figured it wouldn’t be nice since our parents were aaquainted. But he really needed to stop because he was already getting on my nerves.
I was on my way to work today but surprisingly, he wasn’t at his usual spot, waving at me. I sighed in relief. Maybe he had finally gotten the memo and decided to stop pestering me. I just hope it continues this way forever.
I drove to the hospital with happiness bubbling in me. I got there in no time and parked my car in the parking lot. I got out of it and entered the he huge building.
On my way to the office, I noticed how everyone worked diligently like it was their first day at work. I’m not saying they weren’t usually diligent but they were more focused today probably because the chairwoman was coming today.
She is a very strict person that doesn’t take nonsense and at the same time, very nice. She is in her late sixties and despite being that old, she didn’t have any children.
She lost her husband to a ghastly motor accident just a month after their marriage and didn’t get remarried till date. So, she has no family that I knew of.Content (C) Nôv/elDra/ma.Org.
She is the reason I was able to be who I am today. Despite having employees who were much better, more experienced and qualified than I was, she chose me to be the director of this huge hospital.
I was really surprised when I was promoted to such a huge post. I never expected something like that would happen to me because I had worked in this hospital for only four years.
She was the one who lifted me from being a mere doctor to the hospital’s director so I am kind of indebted to her. Though some of the other employees at the time were jealous at my huge success that happened in a short while.
Because of that, they started to spread rumors that I wasn’t qualified for my post and that I got it only because she favoured me.
The runor spread like wild fire and the employees started looking down on me. Well, I didn’t care about it because they weren’t the one who got me the job. Only I knew how many hospitals went to for interviews.
How I almost felt dejected when none of them called me back for a job until this one did. How I worked my ass off and took blames for my seniors’ mistakes all because I were a newbie.
They never thought I would last long in the hospital because I was a divorced woman and a single mother that was still living with her parents so when I turned out to be the new director, it was a huge slap on their faces.
The rumor circulated till it got to the chairwoman’s ears. She was so angry when she heard about it because according to her, she was the one that made me the director so if they didn’t agree with me being the director, that means they didn’t agree with her decision.
It shows that they were disrespecting her so she ordered that those that didn’t think she made the right decision should submit their resignation letter and leave the hospital immediately.
The rumors stopped immediately since no one wanted to loose their job. But that didn’t stop them from giving me wierd glances anytime I passed by but like I said, I didn’t care.
I walked towards my office only to see Sally, my secretary holding a cup filled with herbal tea. She was about to enter the office when she saw me approaching.
“Good morning Miss Roberts.” She greeted.
“Morning Sally. Whose tea is that?” I asked since I don’t drink herbal tea.
“It’s for the chairwoman.” She answered.
“She’s here already? I thought she was supposed to be here at noon?” I asked in surprise.
“I thought so too. Not until I saw her walking in.” Sally replied.
“Okay. Give me that. I’ll take it to her myself. You can continue doing what you were busy with.” I said as I collected the tea from for before going into the office.
“Good morning Grandma Shelly.” I said immediately I walked in. Unlike many other employers, she made me call her by her name because she takes me like I am her grand daughter.
Her eyes brightened up when she saw me so she stood up and hugged me after I had dropped the tea on the table.
“How have you and Molly been doing?” She asked as she stroked my cheek gently.
“We are both fine.” I answered as we both took our seat.
“What about your parents? She asked again.
“They are fine also.” I answered.
“You did even bother to visit me these past few weeks. You didn’t want to be bothered by an old woman like me.” She muttered.
“What? No, don’t say that grandma. You know you will always have a special place in my heart.” I said.
“It didn’t seem that way these past days.” She answered.
“It escaped my mind. It’s just that I have been really busy since I moved into my new home.” I explained.
“You did?? When?” She asked in surprise.
“About three weeks ago.” I answered.
“And you didn’t tell me earlier?” She asked.
“Honestly, I forgot. Moving into a new home was very hectic.”
“Why did you move out of your parent’s house?” She asked.
“Well, I wanted to change Molly’s school since she was getting bullied there.” I answered.
“What? Molly was getting bullied? Since when?” She asked angrily.
” For a while now but I just found out lately so I decided for her to have a change of environment also. But everything has been settled now. We are happy at where we are currently.” I said and she nodded in understanding.
“Okay. Now, tell me the main reason you moved out. I know it’s not because of Molly.” She said.
She caught me. Grandma Shelly could always tell when I am trying to hide something from her or if something was bothering me far better than my parents could.
That was the reason I was comfortable enough to tell her about my painful past with my husband even though she wasn’t that close to me at the time. She stared at me patiently, waiting for me to talk.
I guess I am going to tell someone sooner or later.
“He found us.” I muttered after much hesitation.
She stared at the in confusion before her eyes widened in shock when she finally understood what I meant.
“What??”
