Dear Contract Wife, You Are Mine

Chapter 19

Maybelline Walter POV

‘Are you in love with Miles?’ Those words replayed in my head for the umpteenth time as I sat on the edge of my bed. Those words had been living rent-free in my head all day, and all efforts to stop thinking about it had proven abortive.

“He is not your style, May. Lily is just being crazy,” I reminded myself before I left for the bathroom to shower and go downstairs for dinner.

After I was done bathing and changing into something convenient, I went to the dining room.

“Miles is not back yet?” I asked Adelie when I got to the dining room.

“Good evening, ma’am. No, Mr. Miles is not back yet,” She replied to me, and I slowly nodded as I took a seat at the dining table.

“Where is he?” I mumbled, a bit worried about him. He hasn’t been home after he left earlier, so it was fine for me to be worried about him, yeah?

“Are you ok, ma’am?” Adelie’s voice pulled me out of my deep thoughts, and I nodded as I looked at her.

“Hmm. I’m fine,” I forced a smile at her. Furthermore, she served my food and I began eating.

I had expected Miles to be back before I finished dinner, but up until I finished eating, there was no sign of him, and I was even more worried.

“I have to wake up at night for my online class. I beg to go to bed now, ma’am,” Adelie asked politely after she was done clearing the table.

“It’s ok. You can go,” I gave her permission.

“Call me if you need anything, ma’am,” Those words seemed to have become her signing out of work every time because she always said that literally every time.

“Yes, I will,” She finally left, and even though I was feeling sleepy and tired, I decided to wait up for Miles.

‘Hey, are you there?’ My phone beeped, and I checked my WhatsApp message to see a text notification from Lily. I quickly unlocked my phone and clicked on the message.

‘Hmm. I’m here. What’s up?’ I replied to her text, and my phone displayed her typing almost immediately.

‘Is Miguel back yet? I’ve been trying to reach him, but he is not answering his phone, and all of a sudden, his number isn’t going through again. Have you tried to reach Mr. Miles too?’ Her message popped up on my phone.

‘They are not back yet’ I replied to her, then minimized my WhatsApp and went to the call log where I found Miles’s number as first on the list. I hesitated before I dialed the number, and it started ringing. The call rang for a few minutes and disconnected.

“Why is he not answering his phone?” I mumbled then dialed the number again, but this time, his line didn’t go through.Material © of NôvelDrama.Org.

‘I’m trying to call Miles too, but his number is not going through although he didn’t answer on the first ring’ I texted Lily.

‘Do you think something happened to them? Maybe we should report it to the police. I’m worried’ Her reply came in, and I almost thought of calling the cops immediately, but I dismissed the thought. It wasn’t yet twenty-four hours, so they couldn’t be reported as missing.

‘I’ll wait for him’ I texted her.

‘Alright. Drop me a text whenever they come home. I’m going to sleep now. I need to wake up early tomorrow. We are having a new senior doctor tomorrow at the hospital, so I can’t afford to be late. I don’t want to give him a bad impression of myself on the first day. Good night. Love you’

I breathed out and tossed my phone beside me on the couch. Furthermore, I checked the time and realized that it was past 9pm.

“Did something happen out there?” I mumbled and reached for my phone again. As much as I didn’t want to be worried about him, I was always reminded that this man was my baby Daddy and my boss, so I needed to be sure he was fine. I dialed his number again, hoping it’d go through this time, but I got the same reply. It wasn’t available.

Seconds slowly ticked into minutes and it was soon past an hour that I’d been waiting. My waist was beginning to ache, and my eyes were heavy from being sleepy, but still, I was determined to wait up for him.

“Why am I doing this?” At some point, I asked myself because nothing was making sense to me. I mean, why the fuck was I sacrificing my sleep for this man?

“It’s not a big deal, May. You are just being nice,” I held on to that until I couldn’t hold myself from sleeping any more, and I ended up dozing off.

I had no idea for how long I’d been out, but a hand tap on my shoulder was all needed to jerk me back to reality, and as I forced my eyes open, I realized that it was morning. Late in the morning.

“Ma’am, you slept here?” I opened my eyes to find Adelie towering over me.

“Did I sleep here?” I asked the dumb question even though it was very obvious that I had passed the night here.

“I guess so, ma’am. I’m just coming out now after I left for my room yesterday night, and it seems like you passed the night here. Were you waiting for boss?” She asked.

“Is Miles back?” I asked her, but she shook her head, and I briefly sighed.

“Hmm,” I tried to stand up from the couch, but I yelped painfully when I felt my neck and my whole body cramped.

“Are you ok?” Adelie asked worriedly as she hurried to my front.

“My body… It hurts,” I cried out as I tried to move my hand, but couldn’t. I slept in a bad posture yesterday.

“Hold on… I will do something about it,” She said worriedly and began stretching my body carefully for me.

Just then, I heard the entrance door open followed by thick footsteps down the walkway, and I presumed it was either Miles or his brother.

“What happened? Are you ok?” I heard Miles’s voice and the footsteps quickened. I couldn’t even look at him because I couldn’t tilt my head.

“What happened? Are you ok, wife?” He knelt in front of me with a worried expression on his face, and I scoffed.

“Get away from me,”

“May… Are you ok…”

“Does it look like I’m ok? Get the hell away from me, Miles! Don’t you even dare touch me!” Tears brimmed in my eyes as I yelled at him. The only thing I could wish for at that moment was for my body to be okay so I could push him away from me, but my body stiffened and I couldn’t move any part of it.

“Sir… I think you should give ma’am May some time. You should go to your room first,” Adelie said to him, but he didn’t move.

“I don’t want to see you, Miles. Get out of my sight!” I had no idea why I was being so emotional right now to the extent of shedding tears, but seeing his face was irritating me. Maybe I was mad at myself for worrying so much about him and ending up hurting myself. I was just pissed.

He stood up and walked away.

Ten minutes passed and after a series of massages, I finally felt relieved and I left for my room at once. I slammed the door behind me and burst into tears as soon as I stepped inside my room.

“You are so foolish, May… You are a big fool,” My subconscious mind reminded me even though I knew that I was a fool already. How could I have done that? Not that I was in love with him or something, so why the fuck was I like that? Just the thought of it made me so bitter.

My phone beeped and I hesitantly checked it.

‘Guess what, best friend! Guess who we have here as our new senior Doctor! It’s Miguel! Miguel is my new superior’ I read her message, but I just tossed my phone beside me on the floor because I wasn’t in the mood for that.

“May… Can we talk, please?” Miles’s voice sounded from outside…
