Devoted Love, Mr. Hayes’ Darling Wife

Chapter 109:Missing the appointment.

Early in the morning the Rouco Group building was bathed in the warm morning sun, the city had just woken up and traffic was flowing.

At half past nine in the morning, Estrella Berrocal entered the creative department and worked on the draft of Yahua Animation’s film.

Yahua’s animation drawing was due tonight and she had to finish it before the end of the day. She had already thought of a prototype for this anime character, so it was easy to draw it, but it took time.

At the end of the day, Estrella Berrocal printed the drawing and went into Olivia Montes’ office.

“Director Olivia, here is a draft of Yahua’s animation, I’ve already done it.”

Olivia Montes took a contemptuous look at his manuscript and scoffed, “I thought you were so good and you pretend to win me over with a drawing like that?”

“It’s not for me to say whether I can beat you or not, and naturally it’s not for you either, when the time comes we’ll see how the competition turns out.”

“Hmph, I’m telling you Estrella Berrocal, you can’t win!”.

Olivia Montes, who had always been annoyed with her, didn’t bother to argue with her, “We’ll see what happens then!”

When Estrella Berrocal finished her drawing, she sat down without further work and turned on her phone to check the time.

He had half an hour left and the thought of going to the movies with Adán Rouco tonight made his heart leap like a deer.

Planning his date in his head, he sent a message to Adán Rouco asking, “What’s for dinner afterwards?”

Quickly, an answer came back: “It’s up to you”.

Estrella Berrocal felt the words were superficial and didn’t feel involved at all. “The movie starts at 6:30, why don’t we buy some snacks to take to the movie and then go to the restaurant after the movie?”.

“Okay.”

A simple and clear answer, like the usual dry style of Adán Rouco.

A few minutes later, the man sent another text message, “I have a video conference after work, half an hour or so, come wait in my office.”

Estrella Berrocal recalled that she had gone to the Peninsula yesterday to sign a contract with Orland Borrego, and then left in Adam Rouco’s car, and the car she had driven was still in the subway parking lot of the Peninsula, and it was estimated that the parking fees alone already amounted to hundreds, and if she was not going to get the car back, she would not be able to pay the expensive parking fees later. “The actual car is still in the Peninsula Hotel parking lot, later after work I will go to the Peninsula Hotel first, I will drive the car directly to the cinema and wait for you, you have finished the meeting past the time is almost for the movie premiere.”

After work, Estrella Berrocal first went to the Peninsula Hotel to pick up her car, drove it to the movie theater and bought several snacks to fill her stomach, as well as a bucket of popcorn and two Cokes.

However, Adán Rouco only seemed to drink coffee, plus tap water and water, and carbonated drinks and popcorn were something that did not seem to suit him.

Estrella Berrocal imagines Adán Rouco sitting next to her in a movie theater in a fancy dress, eating popcorn and watching a movie, and the corners of her lips turn up in a slight undulation.

After sitting in the armchair at the entrance of the cinema and waiting for about twenty minutes, he looks at the time and sees that it is ten past six o’clock.

After all, a man of Adam Rouco’s stature was already doing her a favor by taking out such valuable time to spend with her on a date, doing something as trivial and boring as this, so wouldn’t it seem too petty if she kept insisting?

If she couldn’t be more generous, how could she compete with all the intelligent and beautiful women around her?

With that in mind, she slumped down on the table and waited bored.

The clock struck twenty past six and an announcement sounded in the room.

“Those of you going to see Titanic at six-thirty, please go to the box office to check your tickets.”

With ten minutes left in the movie, Estrella Berrocal couldn’t resist sending a text message to Adán Rouco.

“Where are you?”

After five minutes, there was no response.

Estrella Berrocal called, but the phone rang for a long time, but there was no answer.

Were you still on the videoconference?

“Star, it’s really you, Star!”

called Perla Prats as she held her popcorn and pulled Jonathan Tasis towards her.

Oh no, I had bumped into Jonathan Tasis and Perla Prats at the cinema.

Perla Prats looked at the two movie tickets in her hand and said, pretending to be angry: “Well, Estrella Berrocal, yesterday I asked you to come to the movies with me and you refused”.

Estrella Berrocal’s scalp tingled: “No, a classmate”.

“A classmate? I don’t remember you ever having contact with any friends other than me, you’re lying to me, you bought two cokes and so much food, you came on a date!”

“No, seriously, a girl from high school you don’t know.”

Perla Prats looked around, “And where is he?”.

Estrella Berrocal looked at her watch and saw that it was 6:25, Adán Rouco was going to miss his appointment, her face was icy and she was depressed, “He’s been stood up, he couldn’t come. You’ll see, I’ll leave you to it”.

Jonathan Tasis invited with a polite, light smile, “Since you’ve bought your tickets, come in with Perla and me.”

Perla Prats grabbed her arm, “Yes, and you bought all this food, is it going to go to waste?”.

“Gee, come on, come on!”

Perla Prats took the food and dragged Estrella Berrocal to the front door.

The film opened to much laughter, but Estrella Berrocal stared at the big screen, distracted and unable to laugh at all, checking her phone every five minutes.

Perla Prats, who was sitting next to him, came over and whispered in his ear, “You got stood up by a guy?”

“No. … You don’t have to guess.”

“You keep lying to me, if a student had dropped out, would you be so lost? The movie was so good and you kept looking at your cell phone, did you expect her to contact you?”

Estrella Berrocal didn’t bother to disguise it, she simply lowered her gaze and said, “Surely, he’s busy with work.”

“He has a movie date and he’s busy with work? This man is so unreliable, even if he hadn’t made the appointment, would he have at least called you?”

Although Estrella Berrocal had not spent much time with Adán Rouco, she was not the type of person to agree to a date and then break it off for no reason.

“Perla, do you think he might have had a car accident on his way here?”

Perla Prats: “…”

Perla Prats raised her hand and slapped her forehead hard: “Estrella Berrocal, you’re crazy. This man just clearly stood you up and had a car accident, do you think this is a TV show?”

But Adán Rouco was not answering his messages or his phone, so if he had not had an accident, could Paulita be running a high fever again?

With that thought, Estrella Berrocal could not continue watching the film and, carrying her purse, whispered to Perla Prats: “I’ll leave you to continue watching”.

Perla Prats glared at Estrella Berrocal as she catapulted out of her seat and shouted, “Hey! Why are you such a pain in the ass? Get back here! Come back here…”
