Chapter 69:A kiss at the top of the Ferris wheel.
Adán Rouco had taken them to one of the most expensive revolving restaurants on the north side, and had chosen a window seat, the perfect place to take in the beautiful night view of the north side.
Estrella Berrocal had asked Adán Rouco to stop the car on the way and took Paulita to choose her favorite birthday cake. When the food arrived, Estrella Berrocal opened the cake, lit the candles and sang the birthday song with Paulita, while Adán Rouco, half bent over, leaned his long arm on the chair where Paulita was sitting, without singing.
Perhaps the singing of birthday songs is not the most suitable for Adán Rouco’s temperament.
Estrella Berrocal doesn’t mind, but ends the song with Paulita and reminds her with a smile: “Paulita, make a wish”.
Paulita, wearing her birthday hat, clasps her hands together and says, with her eyes closed, “I wish that Daddy, Estrella and Paulita will be together forever!”
Estrella Berrocal was stunned, not realizing that this was her wish, but she might have to disappoint her, she and her father were a pretend couple and would have to break up sooner or later.
Estrella Berrocal removed the candles and Adán Rouco took Paulita’s hand and cut the cake with her, and the meal was so cozy that for a moment Estrella Berrocal thought they were really a family.
After dinner, Estrella Berrocal expected Adán Rouco to drive straight home, but the black Spyker was going in a different direction from the Rouco house.
“Where are we going?”
Adán Rouco replied tersely: “To the amusement park”.
Paulita’s eyes lit up when she heard about an amusement park: “Oh, Dad has finally agreed to take me to an amusement park!
Estrella Berrocal was also surprised that Adán Rouco, so serious, accompanied her and Paulita to the amusement park.
When they arrived at the amusement park, Estrella Berrocal took Paulita to the carousel first, but Adán Rouco did not get on, but stayed a bit away smoking a cigarette.
Estrella Berrocal did not give it any importance, it was strange to think that Adán Rouco, a thirty-two year old man, would ride the carousel with her and Paulita …
By the time Estrella Berrocal finished the carousel and approached with Paulita in tow, Adán Rouco had crushed the butt of his cigarette and his dark eyes were slightly narrowed with dark circles under his eyes. “What else do you want to play?”
The words, obviously asked to Paulita, were pronounced by the man looking at Estrella Berrocal.
Perhaps the man’s eyes were too hot and she unconsciously avoided them.
Paulita pointed to the Ferris wheel, which was shining and spinning in the air, and said excitedly, “Daddy! I want to play on it.
As they reached the bottom of the Ferris wheel, Estrella Berrocal suddenly shuddered and said hesitantly, “Why don’t you … take Paulita up there?”
Paulita frowned a little disappointed, “Star, why don’t you go with me and daddy?”.
Estrella Berrocal couldn’t bear to see Paulita’s disappointed face and gritted her teeth: “Okay, I’m coming up with you.”
God knows he is afraid of heights!
As the wheel went up, Paulita got more and more excited, but Estrella Berrocal’s face became paler and paler.
After a while, Paulita ran to the clear glass side of the wheel to curiously observe the night scene below, and Adán Rouco sat down with Estrella Berrocal.
Adam Rouco’s brow furrowed, “Are you afraid of heights?”
As the wheel rose higher and higher, Estrella Berrocal’s whole heart trembled so violently that the handrail was no longer enough to satisfy her sense of security and she threw herself into the man’s arms!
Adán Rouco was stunned, and then his hand fell gently on her slightly trembling back.
The little woman in his arms spoke sullenly, “Excuse me, I’ll borrow you for a moment.”
The little face buried in the man’s chest was red and hot.
Even Estrella Berrocal herself felt fear. She had no fear of heights, but after Stefano Berrocal’s suicide three years earlier, she had nightmares of her father falling from a tall building and had developed a fear of heights.
Adán Rouco patted her and said in a soft voice: “Don’t be afraid, look how beautiful it is down there, you are safe sitting here, you won’t fall”.
The man’s voice, of uncommon warmth and gentleness, led her to the beautiful view beyond the Ferris wheel, and though she was afraid, she was somewhat moved, her little face gradually rubbed across her breast until, when her eyes caught sight of the beautiful night, the man bent his head to her ear, “If you see more, you won’t be afraid, it’s not as scary as you think.”
I don’t know if it was because she was in his arms, or because he was playing along, but she seemed much more relaxed than when she first came up.
Paulita sat back down and sat next to her, her little arms open to hug her. “Estrella I’m sorry, I didn’t know you were afraid of heights!”
Estrella Berrocal raised her hand and stroked his little head, “It’s okay, I’d love to ride the Ferris wheel with Paulita too”.
Turning her head, her face lifted and her soft lips brushed the man’s thin, cool lips without warning.
And at that moment, the Ferris wheel reached its highest point.
Estrella Berrocal’s ears blushed for a moment as their eyes met and her heart began to pound again, even though it was a light touch, not quite a kiss.
The man’s deep gaze bore into her, his dark eyes reflecting the countless rays of light that streamed through the window, like bursts of stars, enchanting the heart.
She remembered the first time she had seen him formally at a party, and the only words that had crossed her mind were.
Impressive.
So it was not for nothing that Paulita’s high facial features were so powerful, that genetic thing, after all.
“You keep looking at me, are you counting my eyelashes?”.
The man spoke softly, with a faint half-smirk, and it was then that Estrella Berrocal turned her attention back, squirming and averting her gaze. “No?”
Adam Rouco’s thin lips curved impassively, his mood, which had been somber, tended to change for the better.
After returning to the Rouco family from the playground, Estrella Berrocal took Paulita to the shower while Adán Rouco answered a phone call in the studio.
It was Santino Yepes on the phone, “Boss, the kidnapper who took Miss Estrella was caught, it took many methods before he confessed, he, he said … the person who was behind him, was a beautiful woman with the surname … last name Montes.”
Adán Rouco’s dark eyes held not a single emotion, and he spoke only calmly on the other end of the phone, “Understood, don’t tell anyone about this for now.”
“Yes.”
Adán Rouco hung up the phone and left the studio. When he opened the door, he saw Olivia Montes, who was about to knock on the door.
“Adam, I have cut a fruit and brought it up to you.”
The man’s dark eyes were cold and sharp as he stared at her, “Come in, I want to ask you something.”This content is © NôvelDrama.Org.
Olivia Montes, startled, took the tray of fruit to Adán Rouco’s studio.
