Devoted Love, Mr. Hayes’ Darling Wife

Chapter 72: The Rouco family protects the calf

Estrella Berrocal went to a pharmacy located below the Rouco family building to buy the twenty-four-hour emergency contraceptive pill before going to the office.

It was early, several of the public elevators were being repaired, it was morning rush hour, and Estrella Berrocal had been forced to do “too much exercise” the night before, which had caused her to lose strength. Olivia Montes walked past her, her red lips curved into a smile and said in a provocative whisper, “I heard you had a fight with Adam last night…”.

Estrella Berrocal pursed her lips and blushed slightly as she watched Olivia Montes’ slender white fingers press the special elevator button and snorted softly, “See you later, I’m not waiting here with you for the elevator.”

The doors opened and Olivia Montes stepped into the elevator with Jimmy-Choo heels and a provocative smile at Estrella Berrocal as the audience looked on enviously.

As the elevator doors opened, Estrella Berrocal’s eyes unexpectedly met Adán Rouco in the elevator.

The man’s dark eyes were dark and cold, unreadable, and as the doors were about to close, a long, slender male arm suddenly blocked the doors from closing.

The special elevator door opens again and the man inside fixes his gaze on Estrella Berrocal: “Come in”.

Adán Rouco does not address anyone in particular, and several of the female employees outside, who were standing next to Estrella Berrocal, have their hearts racing and their eyes reddening pink, thinking that Adán Rouco is calling them, and they timidly approach the elevator when Santino Yepes, who is in the elevator, stops them and speaks expressionlessly: “Not you, her. It’s not for you, it’s for her”.

Santino Yepes reached out his hand and pointed it clearly at Estrella Berrocal, who, stunned, stood frozen at the elevator door, with no intention of entering the special elevator, preferring to be in a public elevator rather than in the same elevator as Adán Rouco and Olivia Montes, being the light bulb with the most wattage.

Adán Rouco saw Estrella Berrocal standing with a slightly white face, clearly annoyed, and frowned slightly, saying in a calm, impatient voice, “I told you to come upstairs.”

Estrella Berrocal clenched her fist, already angry and aggrieved, and even more so when Adán Rouco ordered her to do so.

When the doors closed again, Estrella Berrocal heard the dismissive and suspicious questions from outside.

“Who the hell is she, why is she getting the same treatment as Principal Olivia and getting to ride up in the president’s elevator?”

“Isn’t that Estrella Berrocal Sr. Ricardo’s girlfriend? How come she’s also having an affair with the president?”

“What a bitch! Eating out of the bowl and looking at the pot!”

The elevator doors closed completely, silencing the murmurs from outside.

Adán Rouco was standing at the back of the elevator, while Estrella Berrocal and Olivia Montes were at the front of the elevator because they had entered later.

The atmosphere inside the elevator is eerily quiet as Estrella Berrocal watches the red numbers climb up the floors, wishing it would go up faster.

As soon as the doors open on the 60th floor, Estrella Berrocal rushes out of the elevator, as if every second spent in the elevator was unbearable, until Olivia Montes exits as well and the doors close again, Santino Yepes looks at Adán Rouco’s face and asks cautiously. “Boss, are you going to let Miss Estrella go?”.

By calling Estrella Berrocal to the president’s elevator in full view of everyone, he was clearly telling everyone how special Estrella Berrocal was, but the boss was a needle in the eye.

And the two, in the elevator, had zero communication.

They did not even exchange a single glance.

Adam Rouco did not look away, his eyes were cold and silent, and he opened his thin lips indifferently, “Won’t you let her go and do her work for her?”

“…”

Santino Yepes was speechless, rubbing his nose in embarrassment.

I couldn’t understand what was going on here with the Big Boss openly telling Estrella Berrocal to get on his special elevator in front of a large crowd, no doubt pushing Estrella Berrocal into the limelight as a public enemy, and seeing the coldness of the Boss, he didn’t seem to have the slightest intention of protecting her.

On the sixty-sixth floor, the doors jingled open and Adán Rouco stepped out of the elevator with one hand in his pocket and his legs long, as he instructed Santino Yepes behind him, “Tell the staff that was talking about you to go straight to the accounts.”

Santino Yepes was stunned and almost didn’t realize which employees Adán Rouco was referring to, and only after trying to remember did he realize that Adán Rouco was referring to the women who had just said that Estrella Berrocal was eating from a bowl, but he hadn’t really seen who they were.

“But with so many female employees at the time, I’m afraid it would be difficult to figure out which ones said those things, wouldn’t it?”

Adam Rouco’s gaze snapped as he took a step back, “The security recordings, do I have to teach you how to look at those?”

Santino Yepes wrung his hands in a cold sweat, “…. Yes, yes, yes, yes, I’ll get right on it.”

As soon as Estrella Berrocal entered the creative department, Olivia Montes tossed her a stack of files and condescendingly indicated, “Take these files to the reference room on the twentieth floor.”Exclusive © content by N(ô)ve/l/Drama.Org.

“Now?”

“Sure now, it will be there in ten minutes, the data room needs these papers urgently.”

Estrella Berrocal frowned and, fighting through the pains, stood up and carried the heavy papers towards the door.

Olivia Montes called out to her, grabbing her arm, and said, “What, are you so reluctant to hand over the papers I asked for? Haven’t you had enough fun playing soft in front of Adam? Now you want to pretend?”

Estrella Berrocal took a deep breath: “Director Olivia, I’m not pretending to be soft, I’m just not feeling well today”.

Olivia Montes didn’t believe her and said with derision: “Who doesn’t feel good sometimes?

“I did not intend to strike, I have gone to deliver the information.”

Estrella Berrocal turned around and hurried out of the creative department with the stack of papers in her arms.

But when she got to the elevator, she realized that all the elevators were under repair, including the one Adán Rouco was using, and that Olivia Montes must have known about it and was trying to screw her over.

Estrella Berrocal returned to the creative department with her papers in her arms, struggling with discomfort.

Olivia Montes was not surprised that he had returned, but asked him with a deliberately cold face, “Why haven’t you sent them yet?”

“Because the elevators are being repaired and I see that these papers are not too urgent, I will wait until the elevators are repaired and deliver them later.”

Olivia Montes, in front of everyone, rebuked mercilessly: “Is it your decision whether it is urgent or not? I said it’s urgent and you’re going to hand it over to me now, whether the elevator is repaired or not!”.

Estrella Berrocal pressed her palms together.

Olivia Montes snorted with utmost disdain, “If you don’t think you can do the job, you can always quit.”

Estrella Berrocal gritted her teeth and, clutching her papers, walked out of the creative department without looking back, heading for the safety of the railing.

Olivia Montes’ red lips moved tonelessly, walking up the stairs from the sixtieth floor to the twentieth, or down with weights, she feared those legs would be ruined today.
