Chapter 346 He Was the Child Abandoned in the Snow

I responded and hung up the phone without asking about Marjorie’s situation.

I didn’t ask Walter about how Marjorie got hurt, nor did I ask my mother. Firstly, I was busy with my own

things, and Marjorie and I were not close enough to warrant personal care. Secondly, for some

inexplicable reason, I felt a certain aversion towards Marjorie, probably due to unfamiliarity.

There was no one at home and it was getting dark. I went back to my room to take a bath. Having been

out in the cold all day, a hot bath was indeed comforting.

When I came out after taking a bath, the phone I had placed at the foot of the bed started ringing.

It was Daniel who called. Upon answering the phone, a deep male voice came from the other end, “Are

you busy?”

I hesitated for a moment, saying, “No, what’s wrong?”

Over the phone, I didn’t know what was going on, and could only wait for the person on the other end

to speak.

Daniel’s voice was as pleasant as ever. “No, just saw it was snowing outside and wanted to give you a

call!”

The tone of his words was emotionless, but I vaguely sensed that he seemed to be in a bad mood.

He couldn’t help but say, “It rarely snows in River City, but this year’s snow is indeed beautiful.”

There was a response from the other end, then silence.

Not knowing what to say, I glanced at the time, it was already ten. o’clock at night. I had just taken a

bath and was feeling a bit sleepy. For a moment, I didn’t understand why Daniel would suddenly call

me at this hour.

I was thinking about hanging up, but considering he didn’t have many friends in River City, if he was

really feeling down and wanted to talk to me, wouldn’t it be bad if I just hung up?

Hesitating, a voice suddenly came from the other end of the phone, “Are you tired?”

I subconsciously hummed in agreement, and it seemed like a chuckle came from the other end of the

phone, saying, “Hmm, then go to sleep earlier.”

Subsequently, the sound of beeping came from the phone.

Holding the disconnected phone, I was truly bewildered, but I didn’t think too much about it. I tossed my

phone aside and got up to blow- dry my hair.

By the time I had finished tossing and turning and finally lay in bed, it was already an hour later.

Used to playing with my phone before going to sleep, I noticed a few more messages on it, they were

from Sebastian.

“Ms. Conner, did you sleep?”

Seeing that I hadn’t responded, he sent another one.

“Sorry to bother you at this hour, but I really didn’t know who else to

turn to. Could you help persuade Mr. Monroe?”

Upon seeing this message, I furrowed my brow and dialed Sebastian’s number.

Fortunately, the call was answered after only a few rings.

“Ms. Conner, I’m sorry for disturbing you so late,” Sebastian’s voice was a bit hoarse.

I pursed my lips, heading straight to the point, “What happened to Mr. Monroe?”

There was a few seconds of dullness on the other end of the phone, followed by a slight sigh, “He’s

been sitting in the snow for almost over two hours now, no matter how much I persuade him, he won’t

move. He says he wants to appreciate the snow scene outside. You know, his

leg is injured, he can’t stand this kind of torment, it will be ruined.”

I was puzzled, “What’s wrong with him? Can’t he watch the snow at home? Why does he need to go

outside to watch the snow?”

Sebastian hesitated for a few seconds, then lowered his voice and said, – “Sir was abandoned in the

snow when he was very young, and was later adopted and taken to Freyhedge.”

I furrowed my brows, saying, “He doesn’t like snow?”

Sebastian sighed, “The day he was abandoned was his birthday, which is today. Before, sir was always

in Freyhedge, where there was no snow, so sir might not have felt anything. This year, he came to

River City and encountered snowfall, which might have made him feel uncomfortable, so…” Nôvel(D)rama.Org's content.

I paused for a moment, then it suddenly dawned on me, Daniel had been abandoned in such a heavy

snowfall day when he was a child.

No wonder when he previously talked about his childhood, he told me so indifferently that he had no

childhood, saying he had no relatives or friends around him, I originally thought…
