Chapter 388

Chapter 388

Chapter 388 Sebastian was sent away.

My tightly wound nerves had reached their peak at this point. I turned around abruptly, my face already

pale as a sheet. Looking at Daniel, I stood frozen in place, feeling somewhat numb.

He looked at me, his expression unreadable, swept his gaze around the room, and landed on the

cabinet of money I had opened. He raised his eyebrows slightly, “You like gold bars.”

I shook my head, realizing that I was overly nervous and had intruded into someone else’s private

territory, which was truly impolite. I quickly spoke up. “I’m sorry, I accidentally came in just now, but I

didn’t take your things, really…”

He hooked his lips into a faint smile, “You can have anything you like here, don’t be nervous, I’m not

angry,

I pursed my lips, still feeling unspeakably creeped out inside. Looking at the surroundings here, I

asked, “Do you… sleep here at night?”

He was quite calm, nodding and saying, “I can’t sleep well anywhere else, but here I sleep

comfortably.” As he spoke, he took out a red sandalwood box from the cabinet. After opening it, he

handed me a small rectangular box from inside, saying, “A New Year’s gift.”

I reached out to take it, inadvertently glanced at the contents of the sandalwood box. It was a string of

cotton candy that had been bitten a few times, and a Superman mask, which seemed somewhat

familiar, but I couldn’t remember it at the moment.

Without thinking carefully, I looked at the rectangular box in my hand, then at him, “What?”

He gave a faint smile, “Open it and see.”

Out of curiosity, I opened the box. Inside was a meticulously crafted curved knife, no more than ten

centimeters long. The blade was sharp, giving the illusion that it could slit a throat with a single stroke.

I was bewildered, looking up at him, “Knife?”

He nodded, “I’ve carried this knife with me for many years, for self- defense. It’s convenient to carry

around. You take it, use it to protect yourself when necessary.”

Giving a knife as a gift, it was my first time seeing such a thing. My tense mood eased slightly. I looked

up at him and said, “It’s my first time seeing someone give a knife as a gift, thank you. However, I

haven’t had the chance to prepare a New Year’s gift for you yet.”

He chuckled, unconcerned, saying, “You’ve already given me quite a lot.”

Knowing he was being polite, I didn’t say much. I couldn’t help but glance around this strange bedroom,

my gaze falling on those few guns. I asked, “Are these part of your collection, or…”

He said lightly, “Both.”

I nodded, a nameless fear always lingering in my heart. I didn’t want to stay here any longer.

Went up the stairs and returned to the cat’s house.

The sky outside had already darkened a bit, the weather was gloomy, as if it was about to rain. I had

been here for quite a while, and the little incident just now had left me somewhat uneasy.

Then I said goodbye to Daniel and prepared to go back.

Seeing my haste to leave, Daniel furrowed his brows slightly and asked, “Aren’t you staying for dinner

before you go?”

I shook my head, forcing a smile and said, “It’s New Year’s Eve tonight, I have to go home and

accompany my mother.”

He didn’t insist, he just asked Sebastian to take me home.

Sebastian noticed her distraction all along the way and finally spoke up, “Ms. Conner, what’s wrong?”

I habitually shook my head, responding, “It’s okay.”

When my mind was in turmoil, my phone suddenly rang. It was a call from Captain Lucas. Seeing his

name on the screen, I inexplicably felt a bit more at ease. I answered the call, saying, “Captain Lucas.”

The voice of Captain Lucas came through the phone, he said, “Ms. Conner, do you have time now?

Can we meet?”

I was somewhat surprised. At this time, the outside was almost filled with the sound of firecrackers and

the rise of fireworks. Why was he asking to meet me now?

Hesitating, I asked, “Is there something important?”

The voice hesitated for a few seconds before saying, “Hmm, the photo of Jacob’s killer has been

recovered by the tech department. It’s not good to talk about it over the phone, I’d like to meet and

discuss.”

Hearing him say this, I didn’t think much and directly said, “Alright, send me your address, I’ll be right

there.”

The other end responded, then hung up the phone.

Somehow, I found myself glancing sideways at Sebastian and asking, “Sebastian, how did you come to

know Mr. Monroe?”

Sebastian clearly hesitated, looked at me, and asked, “Why did Ms. Conner suddenly ask me this?”

“Curious!”

He gave a slight smile, casually saying, “I happened to meet Mr. Monroe a few months ago when he

had an accident.”

He brushed it off, and I didn’t ask anymore, but I felt increasingly uneasy inside, an indescribable Copyright Nôv/el/Dra/ma.Org.

feeling.

Seeing the car drive into the bustling area, I suddenly spoke up, “Just park here, you should go back

early too. It’s New Year’s Eve tonight, your mother must be waiting for you to come home for the

reunion dinner.”

Seeing that I wanted to get off before reaching home, he asked, puzzled, “Does Ms. Conner need to

buy something? It’s not a good time to hail a cab now. I can wait for you to finish your shopping and

then take you home.”

I shook my head at him and said, “No need, you go ahead, I’ll wander around a bit longer, I should be

able to hail a cab after a while.”

He paused, nodded, and said, “Alright, take care of yourself.”
