Chapter 22
The last thing I could remember was the series of pains I felt, My vein popped out, and I held my stomach with agony as I felt a sharp pain in my stomach that refused to leave, The pain doubled and I wondered what was going on at this moment, My head spinning as I tried to get my balance, I held Janet, I saw the worried look on her face, The look of concern and confusion and I screamed in pain before I fell to the floor still clutching on my stomach before I lost consciousness.
“Valerie!” Janet called on to me
I woke up in my room, My eyes wandered around the room and I saw a figure sitting beside the bed, I made a low grunt sound, I was still in pain and I felt like throwing up, My eyes were still blurry and weak so I didn’t the person that was beside me.
“Are you okay little rabbit?” I heard a familiar voice and it was none other than Carson’s voice
“Where am I?, What did you do to me?” I had a lot of questions on my mind, I was in a lot of pain and I don’t know why, I was dizzy and nauseous too, And he was the only one in the room when I gained consciousness, something must be wrong.Text © owned by NôvelDrama.Org.
“How do you feel?” Carson asked with a worried voice, I turned to meet his eyes and all I could see was genuine care and fear.
“I feel terrible, What happened” I asked, I wondered what had made me scream in such agony and pain.
“You were poisoned,” Carson said, but this time his voice switched from that of care to pure anger.
“Poisoned?” When I tried to get up the pain in my stomach became unbearable and my vision became hazy, Carson got up from where he was sitting and rushed to hold me
“Rest up now, don’t get up” Carson carefully laid my head on the pillow, it became difficult to breathe I had to gather myself before I could utter any further words
“I was poisoned?” I asked Carson, A question I already had an answer to, I do have an ill fate because why else will I always find myself in such horrid matters?
“Yes, As a matter of fact, you nearly died,” Carson said slamming his hand against the table, I could see he wasn’t pleased about what happened but I wouldn’t have been in this situation or even this house if it wasn’t for him.
“You brought me here to kill me?” I didn’t know what he was capable of, As far as I know, he could be the one that arranged for my demise.
“Of course not, Don’t be silly,” Carson said without facing me
“Who tried to poison me?” I asked, Curious to know the person that wanted me gone
“I do not know,” Carson said
“Why?” I asked again
“I. do. not. know” Carson replied in an angrier tone, I started sobbing, Not because of the excruciating pain I was facing but because of the position he put me in
“This is all your fault” Tears started streaming down my eyes
“Be assured that I will not rest till I catch the perpetrator” Carson was desperate to catch the offender, I could see it in his eyes and he itched for revenge.
“If you hadn’t forcefully retained me in this hell hole, nothing of this sort would have happened,” I said, I hated him with every fiber of my being
After I said those words I started coughing, I stretched to get the water but I felt a sharp pain by the side of my stomach, Carson rushed over to give me the water but I smacked it out of his hands
“Why should I take anything from you?” I asked with a loud voice, He got another glass cup and poured another glass of water for me, I drank it slowly because every sip I took came with additional pain, But I knew I was thirsty so I had to drink the water
“I will never harm you, Never have I ever thought of doing so” Carson spoke lightly to me
“But I nearly died in your house,” I said in spite
“It hurts me more than you think” I could hear the genuineness in his words but I turned a deaf ear to his concerns and care.
“You brought this upon me,” I said, still shoving and highlighting the blame
“I need you to answer these questions carefully, can you do that for me?” Carson spoke subtly, What happened to the arrogant man? The man who always teased me, I also wanted justice so I was willing to work with him to snag the offender,
“What would you like to know?” I asked
“I was told you ate soup yesterday, correct?” Carson asked, yesterday. How long was I out? It was already the next day,
“Yes, but it wasn’t any allergic reaction” I had cross-checked to be certain if any seafood was inside the soup.
“I know, Do you suspect anyone?” Carson asked, Janet had asked some maids to bring the food to me, But I didn’t know any of them in specific
“Not even your personal maid?” Carson asked, waiting for a reply. I thought hard, Janet would not do such evil to me, I am sure she’s not that kind of person.
“No, she wouldn’t do such” I waved off his question
“You seem to trust her, that’s unwise,” Carson asked as he sat down in a wooden chair in my room and crossed his legs
“I don’t trust her, I’m just a good judge of character” I replied back
“Very well then, Aside Janet do you have anyone else who comes close to you” Carson asked me with a serious face,
“No just Janet” I answered, I groaned because the pain was already coming back.
“I will leave you to rest, I will be here if you need anything” He walked towards me pulled the blanket over me, and took a good look at me before leaving the room.
“Benson, take all the workers in the mansion in for questioning, The person can’t get away with this” Carson ordered.
