I was supposed to meet Jacob in the afternoon but when I found her taking a nap in my room while in the middle of doing her job, I decided to stay. She was lying on her side, and every time she would a deep breath, I could feel her sadness.

I knew it was wrong to entertain the feelings growing inside me for the Omega, but I couldn’t stop myself from moving closer to the bed. The bed creaked when I joined her.

She was probably worried about her marriage to Jacob’s stepbrother, or she wouldn’t have dark circles around her beautiful eyes. Even in her sleep, she was so pretty, and before I could stop myself, I started to touch her cheek.

I have always noticed it that for an omega, a born slave, her skin was unbelievably flawless and smooth. As I continued to observe her, she took several deep breaths.

Then, she purred in her sleep. I wondered if she was having a bad dream, but as much as I wanted to comfort her, I wouldn’t do such a thing. I had to maintain my indifference to the woman, or else, it would be difficult for both of us.

I am cruel to Amber, I knew that. Since the day we met, I have never been kind to her. Yes, I agreed to her proposal to impregnate her, but it was because of my attraction to her.

The moment she stepped into the clinic, I recognized her immediately as my mate. In fact, I remembered her from a long time ago, however, I couldn’t be a softie when my plan started to get positive results.

At a young age, her beauty has always caused her trouble. I had always known that she was my mate. I have watched her from a distance, and that’s the reason why I was able to save her from those rogues who planned to do some dirty deeds on her young body.

There were days when I have regrets about saving her, but still, I should be thankful to Amber. If not because of her, my plan to avenge my mother’s death wouldn’t come true. For more than ten years, I have been working on it, so a certain Amber McBride wouldn’t ruin his plan. Not now, not ever! I wouldn’t allow her to ruin my plan for revenge. She may hate me forever, and I wouldn’t give a damn.

Marrying her to another man, to give her a secure home, was the last thing I could do for her as my mate. Since I wouldn’t be able to take her as a wife, she’s better off in the countryside. Jacob’s impotent stepbrother would be a better choice for Amber.

Being heartless to her was also hurting me, however, I couldn’t just back out for the sake of love. Even if the woman has managed to crawl deep into my heart, I wouldn’t allow her to stay inside, and that’s why she had to leave the pack as soon as possible.

Actually, my property in Claybourne was my first choice,  but having her close would be dangerous. Since I would be in Claybourne most of the time because of Jacob, I couldn’t afford to see her every day.

When she smiled in her sleep, I also smiled, but then, I immediately scolded myself for acting like a sissy. But then, I couldn’t control my hand. It moved on its own and began tracing my finger into her luscious lips. I was enjoying it until I noticed how her eyelashes flickered.

I immediately rolled over from the bed and glared at her.

“Who told you to take a nap in my room, Amber? Get up immediately and do your work!” I snapped at her, and then I strolled toward the bathroom to cool down my body.

Earlier, while I was tracing a line on her soft lips, I became hard. Actually, I had no idea why her scent would immediately turn me on as if it was the only aphrodisiac I needed in my all life.

After washing my face with ice-cold water, I stayed in the bathroom for a few minutes. When I got out, she was no longer in my room. I thought she didn’t finish her job of cleaning my sleeping area, but she was done. I couldn’t find a trace of dust everywhere!

I walked to the closet to get a new shirt since I splashed some water into my clothes earlier. Damn! She really had to go as soon as possible!

After donning a new shirt, I went outside to check on her. She was not in the sitting room or nearby. I was tempted to shout for her name, but I held myself pretty well.

Since my new couch was inviting, I walked toward it and sat down. Then, I grabbed a magazine to read, but it was boring, so I ended up opening the television to watch a basketball game.

Watching the game forced me to focus instead of Amber. When she appeared later on, I was shocked to see her standing so close to me.

“What is it?” I snapped at her again.

“I am done, Dale,” she informed me and then was ready to leave.

“Where do you think you’re going?” I asked while grabbing one of her hands when she tried to leave that fast.

“Dale, you are hurting me! What’s wrong with you? Let me go!”

As she tried to get away from me, I wanted to set her free but I couldn’t bring myself to do it. I wanted to hold her a little more. I knew that the moment he would leave the pack, I wouldn’t be so free in meeting her again.

“Pack your things, Amber. We are going to Clayland in an hour,” he said.
