Falling for my Ex-Fiancee’s Best friend

Another job?

Still seated, Demelza applied for the job as she ignored the thought of it being Nathan’s Law Firm. Between her pride and being jumbled, she chose to be humble for the sake of her father as she needed to get him out of prison as fast as she could

After she submitted the application online, she shut down her computer and prepared to go to bed. After doing everything necessary in preparation for work the next day.

Hours passed fast and soon it was 5am and Demelza was already awoken by her alarm as usual. She struggled to sit up on the bed and reach for her phone to see if she had any notification. She noticed the mail icon at the notification bar indicating a new mail. She opened it and her eyes widen from seeing a mail from Nathan’s law firm. ‘We have received your application and you are expected to come for an interview by 7am prompt. A minute delay will not be excused. Thanks, Management.’

Demelza was super excited as this looked like a chance to be employed by them which meant an extra source of income. She sighed after she remembered she had work that morning and she was left with no choice but to find her way around this whole thing. She needed to figure out a way to keep her job as a waitress and also try her luck in getting this new one.

She called her co-worker immediately and begged her to take her shift promising to pay back the favor and without much stress, her co-worker agreed. With that, Demelza felt relieved that she would be able to kill two birds with one stone.

She hastily got out of bed to prepare as she needed to leave the house very early to ensure she got to the Law Firm on time as it is quite a distance from her home.

In about an hour, she got to the Law Firm which stands high and unique in the bustling city.

Demelza walked into the law firm and her mouth went ajar in astonishment and is wowed by the polished marble floor. She looked around and got fascinated with the exquisite art works hung on the wall and also very impressed with how the law firm breathes sophistication.Upstodatee from Novel(D)ra/m/a.O(r)g

Pinching herself back to reality, she made her way to the receptionist and stopped in front of the pretty lady with a sleek hair seated behind an office desk. “Good morning ma’am.” Demelza greeted.

“Good morning, how may I be of help to you?” The lady asked.

“I’m here for an interview.” Demelza responded.

“Oh!” The lady said as she remembered an interview is to happen at the firm that day. “This way please.” She told Demelza.

Demelza followed her and she was taken to the waiting room where she met few other people there for the interview as well. She felt a little bit intimidated as she all she could see are people dressed better than she is. She took a deep breath and sat down to wait for her turn to go in to be interviewed.

“Demelza Thorpes?” A young lady who is obviously a secretary called out.

“Yes, that’s me.” Demelza responded standing up.

“You can come in now,” The lady told her.

Demelza closed and opened her eyes anxiously as she tried to summon up the courage to face Nathan.

Immediately Demelza walked into the office, relieve washed over her to see that the man seated in the office was not Nathan.

She took her time to observe the man and she noticed that aside working in a modern high rise building, the man’s office is tastefully decorated with sleek yet expensive furnitures. The man is seated behind a large polished office desk made of a dark and shiny wood. He is impeccably dressed in what seemed like a customized tailored suit with a crisp white shirt and silky burgundy coloured tie. She looked down at his feet and saw his shoes were a pair of polished leather shoes.

There is a desktop on his table and two smart phones too. She noticed how his table is neatly organized with very few personal items and other important items for work purpose, there is a pen stack and also a family photo frame.

“Are you going to to keep staring or sit for your interview?” the man asked her as his aura exudes an air of confidence though his demeanor is calm and collected with a combination of a sense of authority. she could tell that he’s got a sophisticated taste because the interior decoration of his office is quite detailed. She looked to the side and noticed there is a collection of carefully curated books on a small shelf by the corner.

“We do not have all day, call the next person.” The man instructed his secretary with a little bit of irritation to how lost Demelza is.

The secretary tapped her on the shoulder, “Do you want to miss your chance?” She asked Demelza who jolted back to reality.

“I’m sorry, I’m really sorry.” Demelza apologized realizing how much she fucked up.

“You can have your sit.” The man responded giving her a chance.

At that point, Demelza lost hope of getting the job as she let herself get lost admiring the detailed office which was not a good first impression. In good faith she went on with the interview.

The interview lasted for about five minutes which didn’t take much of her time.

“We will get back to you, have a nice day.” The man told her after the interview was done.

“Thank you.” Demelza responded and made her way out if the office.

While she took the elevator, she began to have doubts about getting the job as her low self-esteem began feeding on the little optimism she had.

She wondered why she will be employed instead of other people who had better qualifications than her and dressed more appropriately than her.

Finally outside the law firm, she started walking instead of taking a cab as she could not dicide if she should go to the restaurant or go home.

After much thinking, she decided to stroll to the park not far from the law firm to cool her head and ease herself off the depression begining to sting her mental health.

While at the park, she found herself a good spot to sit and rest her head before going to the restaurant to take a shift rather than wasting the whole day without being productive.

She sat there surfing the internet and applying for More jobs as she licked an ice cream doing that. She is given up hope of being employed at the Law Firm.

She looked up for a bit and noticed a waterfall fall that looked so beautiful. As she wake there, her phone chimes which made her pause to take a look at the notification.

‘Good day,

Congratulations on your employment Demelza Thorpes, you are to resume work by 7am tomorrow. You are expected to dress in corporate wears as you will be working on the same floor with the CEO, Nathan Storm. Do well to be punctual and active.

SIGNED: Management.’

Shivers ran down Demelza’s spine as she read the part where she will be on the same floor with Nathan.
