Fated to the Ruthless CEO

Devlin spent his weekend with Amber. He has the clarity of mind to sort out things between him and Amber. After realizing about his situation, he resolved to settle his issue with Amber. For days, he has been angry at her since he blamed her for everything. But after seeing Amber taking good care of him despite everything, she must be something. Maybe his grandmother is right all along about her.

They were at the private pool of Devlin’s penthouse when he opened the topic. Amber was wearing a yellow dress that was just above the knee while Devlin was wearing his casual walking shorts and a shirt. They were just sitting next to each other.

“Amber, I want us to talk.” She was silent when she heard his words. They haven’t spoken about anything else except trivial things. Probably, it’s for the best that they talk now when Devlin is not angry.

“Hmm.. what is it about?” Amber was staring at the pool while waiting for Devlin to say something more.

“First off, I do apologize for everything. I was such an a** for blaming everything on you. I know that my grandmother would never mean any harm to me. She must have a very important reason why she pushed us with the marriage. And, I am sorry that I did not give you a chance to explain your side.” Amber was actually surprised to hear him apologizing to her. She waited for more from him.

“And another thing…I am sorry for coming home so drunk several times. I appreciate that you have been taking care of me.” Amber’s face turned red. She did all of that because she truly cares for Devlin. And for sure, he will never see it that way.

“Will you forgive me?” Devlin said sincerely. However, Amber could still not trust his words. Yes, these two days were good. He treated her nicely but what of the coming days? Will he change his mind again if something comes up?

“I must admit that I felt miserable the past few days. If I could just turn back time, I would not have wanted to meet Grandma Olivia in such a situation. Anyway, we are here now. I am glad you said what you said. I felt relieved. Honestly, I also understand your side. I would also have the same reaction as you did. I hope you believe every word that I said to you before. I have no idea about the last will and the wedding. I would never manipulate no one just to get what I want. I was never raised like that by my marmee.” She tried hard not to cry. Devlin saw her reaction and without thinking, just readily hugged her.

“Hush now…we can start all over again. I promise you that I will not react the way I did without listening to your explanation.” Devlin closed his eyes while still hugging Amber. The comfort he is giving her is easing all the pains she is feeling.

Even if something is still nagging in her head not to believe him but her stubborn heart is telling her something else. She should forget about what happened. She saw the sincerity in Devlin’s face.

“Alright, let’s try to forget about what happened. So tell me, how are we going to fix everything in grandma’s will? I felt privileged to meet your grandmother and to be able to know her even if it was almost too late. But still, I really do not want to have any of the inheritance she left me. Those are yours and your family. I am so sorry. I did not know that she changed her will.” This time, Amber could not stop her tears from falling.

“It is alright. Don’t think about it right now. We just agreed to forget the past and move forward. Let’s take it one day at a time.” Amber only nodded in silence.

“But there is one more thing that I would like to clarify. And I hope that you could tell me honestly.” Amber said while staring at Devlin.

“What is it? Tell me.” His gentle voice gave her enough courage to continue further.

“Uhmm…about Raven. I know about your past with her.” She felt him stiffened but still she continued what she had to say. It is now or never.

“Did you just use me so you could get back with her?” She said frankly which made Devlin speechless for a while.

He took a deep sigh before he replied to her. “I am sorry about that. Yes, it was my plan.” Pain crossed Amber’s face. She stared back at the pool so Devlin would not notice.

“I am sorry that I used you but I felt guilty for doing that. I know that Raven is already happy with my brother. It was just my ego that could not accept that she ended up with him.”

“But what about your feelings for her? That must be really hard for you.” Amber asked. She knew that she’s getting out of line.

“Don’t worry about me. I know that I can move on from her soon.” Devlin gave Amber a meaningful look.

“I hope you find that peace and acceptance that you are looking for.” That’s all she said and stayed quiet after that. Devlin also did not say anything but a smile appeared on his face. Amber did not notice it.

The next few days, Devlin spent his time busy with his company but he always goes home to dinner with Amber.

To Amber, she was happy with the changes that he noticed from Devlin. For the whole weekdays, they have not gotten into any arguments at all. That is a big improvement in their relationship.

One time he went home so exhausted from the day’s work. Amber came asking about his day. He barely could say anything and just went to sit down on the couch. She went down on the ground to remove his shoes and socks. He was too tired to remove it earlier. She left for a short time. She came behind him and she felt her fragile hands on his shoulders. She started massaging him. He did not say anything but just closed his eyes and felt relaxed with her massage.

“Hmmm…thank you. I really needed that.” He said while his eyes were still closed. Amber kept massaging him until he fell asleep on the couch. She smiled to herself and went to get some pillows from his room. She couldn’t bring herself to wake him up so he could move to his bedroom. He really looks exhausted.

Devlin woke up from the couch. Then, he remembered what happened the night before. What Amber did for him. It is just one of those moments that she did for him that Devlin truly appreciates about her. She is a very nurturing soul.

Devlin thought of something he wanted to do for Amber. He wanted to surprise her this coming weekend. He just wants to make it up to her.

As the days go by, he feels more attached to her. At work when he gets exhausted, always the smiling face of Amber appears in his mind. He knows he likes her now for all the patience and care she has been showing him. And it is not difficult to like her. And probably fall for her…

Devlin had to shake his head. Is it possible that what he is feeling for her is something more special? It is interesting that he wants to spend more time with her. Something that he was not able to do when he was with Raven.

Came Saturday, he woke up early to cook breakfast for Amber. Small things to do for her who always does the cooking for them. Who never fails to care for him. And for the first time in years, after his break-up with Raven, he feels truly happy.

“Hmmm…that smells so good. You cooked breakfast? What’s the occasion?” Amber asked with a beaming smile.

Devlin turned red. He has never cooked for any woman before even with Raven. He has to stop comparing both women. If he wants to move on fast, he should only focus on the present.

“Are you hungry?” He asked casually. He set up all the food he cooked on the table. He even made a freshly squeezed orange juice. Amber could not stop herself from smiling.

Devlin served her breakfast. He even had a ready coffee for her in case she wanted one. She is not much of a coffee drinker.

“This is really good. I might get used to your cooking.” She teased him which made Devlin’s eyes grow a fraction wider.

“I am just mediocre. I can cook simple ones like anything fried.” They both laughed together.

“That’s a good start for you to learn more about cooking if you want to.” Amber is finishing her pancake.

“This pancake is really good.” She winked at him. Devlin stared at her for a while. He can’t believe how beautiful she is with her teasing.

“Thank you.” He only scratched his head for the lack of words to say.

“Thanks to you. This is actually a great breakfast. Everything is delicious.” After they finished spending their breakfast together, she forced Devlin to leave the kitchen.

“Aren’t you going to do something for today?” Amber asked while putting away the dishes. Devlin was about to help her but stopped him.

“I will take care of the dishes here. You go and do what you need to do.” Devlin hesitated but quickly kissed her on the forehead before he headed to his room to shower.

Amber could not move for a few moments. Devlin just kissed her on the forehead. This is the first time it happened. She felt that these past few days, they have been getting closer to each other. She is a bit scared if she would open up her heart to him. It is still too early.

Devlin quickly took a shower but he castigated himself for not telling Amber to get ready as well. They are going to spend the day outside. But the surprise will not happen until later in the night. He already felt excited just thinking about it. If he could see himself right now, he looks like a teenager who just had taken her crush to a first date. He has not felt this excitement while dating other women for years. The women he went out with had only one thing in mind. They wanted to get laid. But with Amber, it is so different. It’s so pure and innocent.

Amber was already finished in the kitchen. She was in the living room watching a TV show when Devlin spotted her.

“Hey, what are you doing there, little minx? Get ready, we are going outside.” Devlin playfully ruffled her hair. Amber threw the pillow at him.

“Didn’t you hear me? Get ready. We are going outside. Don’t keep me waiting too long.” He pulled her up from the couch and nudged her to go to her room.

“I will be waiting for you here.” Amber paused and looked at Devlin. He is wearing a casual outfit so might as well go casual.

“Alright… you are so impatient. Give me some time. Women take time to get ready, you know.” She only raised her eyebrow at him.

In her bedroom, Amber jumped to her bed and put the pillow on her face. She was screaming from the overwhelming feeling of how Devlin treated her. He is making her feel things that she has no control over. She feels breathless and loses her mind every time Devlin acts the way he has been acting lately. She is not complaining. She loves every bit of the time they spend together.
