The next day was a flurry of activity for Amber and Devlin. Amber woke up to a slight knocking on her bedroom door. Before she could fully open her eyes, she heard footsteps. Then, someone sat on her bed close to her. She was still in her dreamlike state when she lazily opened her eyes. She was surprised to see the smiling face of Devlin.

“Good morning, sleepyhead. Do you want to sleep some more?” She could hear his slight chuckles. She simply shook her head. She is tempted to sleep some more but she remembers this is their last day here. She wants to explore the place with Devlin.

She slowly stretched her arms and slowly sat down on her bed. She saw him eyeing her carefully. She suddenly feels self-conscious about her appearance. She attempted to fix her messy hair by brushing it with her fingertips. She is well aware how Devlin’s eyes were following her every move. She finally took a deep sigh.

“What time is it now?” She asked, trying to mask her embarrassment.

“It is almost 8 am. I came to check on you. If you want to sleep some more, go ahead. I will wake you up later…” He said casually but Amber stood up. She rather spends time outside with Devlin than staying in an enclosed space with him. She always feels out of breath whenever they are intimately close to each other. Suddenly, she remembers what happened last night. The fiery kiss that they shared at the patio. The intense way Devlin looked at her. Things have really changed after that night he went home drunk.

After Amber was done with her personal stuff, she went out in her bedroom feeling much better. Devlin was already waiting for her in the living room. He was busy on his phone when Amber made some noises.

“So, what’s the plan for today?” Thinking of all the things they can do in this place excites her.

“Well, you better come with me. First, we need to have a good breakfast.” Amber just let him guide her to wherever and whatever he wants to do today. He knows this place too well.

Their first stop was at the lodge owned by Devlin’s family. The moment they entered the lodge’ reception area, she saw some familiar faces. They were the same people who were in the cabin last night. She greeted them cheerfully.

Devlin guided her to the dining area of the lodge. There were some guests already eating at their tables. There was a reserved table for them. Amber saw there was plenty of food for breakfast. They were serving a buffet.

Amber stood up to get some food at the buffet area but a waiter already came to serve them breakfast. Her eyebrow arched.

“Where are you going? I already contacted them earlier to get us breakfast ready. I had a special breakfast cooked for us. Do you want anything else aside from these foods?” Amber looked at the food on their table. She only shook her head. She quietly went back to sit down and started eating.

“So, how was your sleep? Didn’t you sleep well last night?” Devlin started some casual conversations between them.

“I could not sleep immediately. I am always like this when I am in a new place.” Devlin only nodded at her.

“What about you? Did you sleep well? You were awake early.” Amber asked after having a sip from her cup of coffee.

“I slept like a baby. Last night was great.” He playfully winked at her before he continued eating. He did not mention that he did take time to sleep but when he did, he slept soundly. His only recollection before sleep took over him was the arresting face of his wife.

Amber was glad that he did not mention at all the fiery kisses they shared last night. That would make her feel uncomfortable with him.

‘Isn’t he your husband now? You can share intimate moments together.’ Her traitorous mind reminded her. Still, this is the first time that she shared this intimacy with a man. Yes, back in her college days, men her age also tried to pursue her but she easily wards their attention away from her. As much as possible, she wants to stay in the background. She does not want to get anybody’s attention. She is used to being by herself sometimes and at other times with her best friend.

However with Devlin, she got to places she never went to before. She did things that she thought she could not do. And most of all, she never thought she had that extreme patience to understand someone like Devlin.

Devlin brought Amber to a quaint town of Sequim. It is dubbed as the “Lavender Capital of the World”. When they got there, Amber was just in awe with the magnificent views that the place can offer. Since it is the peak season, a lot of farms open for visitors. Of course, the highlight in the place is visiting the lavender farms. After all, that’s what Sequim is famous for although there are other exciting activities that they can do as well. The pleasant weather and the endless wildflower meadows made it a more exciting trip for both of them. Amber could not stop taking pictures with Devlin. And this is the first time that Devlin let her take a photo of them together. After that, they had a quick lunch at a restaurant before they continued exploring the picturesque place. And they were lucky to be able to catch a live theater performance at Olympic Theatre Arts. Then, they shared a sumptuous dinner in one of the fine dining restaurants in the area.

“Thank you for today. I had a great time. It was amazing.” Amber said with a huge smile on her face. She even hugged Devlin on impulse for the happiness she felt.

“I am glad you had fun. I did, too.” Amber’s happiness radiates through her face. And that affected Devlin to feel the same way.

“So, are we going back to the city?” Devlin only shook his head.

“We are going back to the cabin. We can drive home early in the morning. Besides, I canceled all my appointments in the morning.”

“That’s better. It is already late to drive back to the city.” She checked her wristwatch and it’s almost 10 pm.

They were quiet the whole time they were driving back to the cabin. Amber was surprised by the well-lit cabin. On their way, the road was dark except for the headlights from their car.

“Wow, I did not know that this is how it looks at night.” Some light bulbs are lighting up the trees. While the pathway to the cabin is also lit with huge bulbs.

“This is definitely like a fairytale place.” She giggled lightly while admiring the whole place. And of course, when they get in, she never fails to notice the grand chandelier.

“Where are the caretakers?” Amber looked around but the cabin was empty.

“They are at the lodge. They just left a while ago. The caretakers only come here when this place is empty. They have their own rooms.

“They?” Amber did not see the caretakers. She was just curious.

“Ah, they are Mr. And Mrs. Holloway. They have been our caretaker in this place even before I was born. I will introduce you to them when they come here tomorrow. You did not see them yesterday because Mr. Holloway was sick.” Devlin said while now sitting on the sofa. She slightly pulled Amber to sit beside him.

Devlin has not realized it yet but he became clingy to his wife. He just wants to be as close to her. Her warmth and smiles brought him more tender feelings towards her. And Amber… She is trying to act normal despite the fact that they are so close to each other. She noticed the touches that Devlin did while they were outside earlier. He could not stop putting his arms around her waist or just held hands with her while walking in the middle of the lavender field.

“I can’t wait to see them.” Amber only smiled at him. She was afraid to look at Devlin. But before she could stand up and go to her room, Devlin touched her chin.

He made her look at him. The eye contact was really heated. Amber could feel the heat flowing in her body. It’s like she is melting in his arms.

“Wh–what are you doing? I am s-sleepy.” That was her futile attempt to stop him from doing what he has in his head.

“I am sleepy too but don’t you want to give your husband a nice good night kiss, hmm?” His voice definitely sent shivers down to her spine. She tried pushing his chest but it was useless. Devlin was already hugging her body tightly. And he kissed her ever so gently. She immediately closed her eyes on impulse. She feels like it is the most natural thing to do between them.
