Chapter 758 Jerks
Chapter 758 Jerks
When Skylar went downstairs, Penelope was eating oatmeal. Skylar uttered nonchalantly, “Doesn't the morning oatmeal taste better than the midnight wine?”
Penelope put down her spoon. She had drunk too much last night. As a result, her head throbbed, and her stomach was uncomfortable. © NôvelDrama.Org - All rights reserved.
She hadn't drunk enough that she suffered from blackouts yesterday. Instead, she remembered everything that happened last night, including the moment when she pointed at Tobias and scolded him loudly. Recalling her actions, Penelope shuddered as her scalp tingled with fear.
In a tentative tone, she asked Skylar, “Did I throw a drunken tantrum at Tobias yesterday? He won't stay mad at me, will he?”
Skylar didn't answer. Tobias is too occupied with his own issues to be mad at her. He's too focused on making my life difficult. She said, “No, he's not mad at you. He's not that petty. I thought you drank too much and forgot everything. It's good that you can still recall what happened. What did you mean last night when you talked about the expression in Tobias' eyes? I didn't understand.”
Penelope scanned her surroundings and discreetly beckoned Skylar to come closer, like how secret agents interacted with one another.
Skylar pulled up a chair and sat next to Penelope before leaning her head forward. “What do you want to tell me? I think his eyes are fine. They're very pretty.”
Penelope took her phone out of her pocket and handed it to Skylar. “Read this article. It's very well written. I like it very much!”
As Skylar expected, Penelope had indeed found another motivational article on Instagram. Sometimes, the latter was no different from an old lady, believing whatever she saw on social
media.
Penelope elaborated, “I've wanted to talk to you about this for a while, but I was afraid it would affect your relationship with Tobias. You two were still in the honeymoon phase then, so it wasn't a good time to mention this.”
Skylar didn't really agree with Penelope's words. In her opinion, there was never a honeymoon phase in her relationship with Tobias. He still treated her the same way he did when they started dating and had never changed; he was not considered overly attentive, but he was not that bad either.
Their relationship had always been steady and stable. There was never any grand passion between them, nor did they ever feel an intense urge to stay together all the time.
Wary of speaking ill of the owner of the house she was staying in, Penelope moved closer to Skylar's ear and whispered, “You can't hide the expression in your eyes when you're in love with someone. If someone loves you, he will focus only on you, and his eyes will twinkle like a sky full of stars when he looks at you.”
Skylar furrowed her brows. She had never seen Tobias' eyes sparkle, not once since they started going out. “He's always been like this, indifferent to everyone. Even if a mountain were to collapse before him, he wouldn't bat an eye.”
Penelope sighed and propped her chin on her hand. “I'm not telling you this to make you uncomfortable or to sow discord between you and Tobias. I've already experienced my share of unhappiness in life, so I don't want you to undergo the same thing. Sometimes, I wonder if anyone would still marry someone like me, a young woman with the extra baggage of a child. Other men will disdain me, and my daughter will also suffer for being fatherless, so being with the child's father is always the best option. If Brayden were to change his mind, I could still consider getting back together with him for the child's sake.”
Skylar looked at Penelope, who still appeared infatuated with Brayden, and was puzzled by why women always remembered the jerks who mistreated them, easily forgetting all the despicable men's wrongdoings as if suffering from amnesia.
Before being with Tobias, Skylar had only been in one relationship. The breakup wasn't devastating, and Tobias eventually came along and filled her life with his presence.
