Chapter 2238
Chapter 2238
Sophie sighed heavily, "You know, deep down, I've always known he doesn't love me the same way. I'm always the one texting first, planning our dates, and heck, I even made the first move for our kiss."
"I remember all his likes and dislikes, empathize with the struggles of his startup, and always tread carefully around his moods. I thought it was normal, you know, because I was the one who fell harder. In love, someone always gives more."
"All I wanted was for us to be stable, that's it."
"And if I dared to wish for more, it was for him to one day see my true feelings, and maybe love me a bit more."
Jason's heart ached as he listened, replying softly, "The harsh truth is, when you give too much, the other person starts taking it for granted. They won't cherish you more or love you deeper."
Sophie turned to gaze at Jason, "Do all guys prefer girls like Diana?"
"Not at all!" Jason's eyes darkened, "The one I love, no amount of Dianas could compare."
Sophie nodded, "Right, no one can hold a candle to Estelle."
Jason pressed his lips together, wanting to say more but swallowing the words instead.
Sophie continued, "If he likes Diana that much, we might as well break up. I'm not one to cling on desperately."
"Then why cry?" Jason handed her a tissue to wipe her face.
Sophie blushed slightly, taking the tissue and dabbing at her face messily, "Well, breakups hurt, okay?"
Jason wanted to say he's been experiencing breakups repeatedly, each time feeling like a fresh wound. Sophie went on, "After loving him for so many years, it hurts to suddenly let go."
Jason spoke in a calm tone, "The pain eventually numbs."
Sophie looked up, "You speak from experience?"
Jason met her gaze deeply, "Yeah, getting hurt, healing, then getting stabbed again and healing again. I've been through it all."
Sophie, already feeling down, found herself unexpectedly laughing at his words, though the laughter was tinged with sorrow. She leaned into Jason, laughing and crying, quickly soaking his shoulder with tears.
Jason sighed, patting her shoulder, "Crying it out is good. It's not the end of the world. You've still got me."
Sophie didn't respond, just nestled closer into his embrace, silently shedding tears.
As the end of the year approached, wrapped in the hustle and bustle, time flew by.
It wasn't until the day before her wedding that Amiee finally found time to try on her wedding dress. Luckily, it fit perfectly, and the style Estelle chose complemented

Sitting beside Estelle, Amiee smiled softly, "Looks like Josiah and I are getting hitched before you and Jonah. You guys should hurry up."
Estelle smiled back warmly, "Definitely!"
She turned to Amiee, "When did you start falling for Josiah?"
It seemed to her that Amiee was the first to fall.
Amiee, with a spirited look in her eyes, pondered, "It's been a while, probably right after he came back home from the military. My mom went over to the James family's for a game night, and I was sitting in the car bored out of my mind. He came over, leaned against the car looking up at the sky. His eyes, full of yearning for freedom, were so bright and passionate."
"Maybe that's what I yearned for too. In that moment, I saw a reflection of my own desires in his gaze."
"He didn't know someone was in the
car, and
of course, I didn't get out to greet him. So there we were, him staring at the sky, me watching him, for a long while."
"After joining Eagle Valley, I had this strong intuition that Goshawk was him."
"So, I broke the rules and peeked at his file."
Amiee turned to Estelle, "Sorry about that!"
Estelle smiled, "No need, facilitating a happy event gives me a great sense of achievement. Everyone in Eagle Valley is thrilled about it!" Amiee smiled determinedly, "Josiah and I have talked. Even after marriage, we'll continue to serve Eagle Valley, never backing down." Estelle high-fived her, "Great, Eagle Valley forever."
