Chapter 100
Chapter 100
"Can someone bring me a flashlight, please?"
Yvonne Xavier suddenly asked.
"Quick, quick! Bring it over!" Although Senior Zimmer did not know what Yvonne was up to, he ordered the people to fulfil her request.
Soon, a flashlight was brought over. Yvonne turned on the flashlight and shone the light toward the two diamond pieces.
The bright dazzling light illuminated over them. The crowd could not help but to hold their breaths. Many of them displayed disbelief on their faces.
Under the light, everyone saw the vast difference between the two clusters of diamonds. Yvonne's diamond was smaller, but its shimmering reflection of light dazzled the onlookers. The sight attracted the attention of the people.
However, Zack Zimmer's fist-sized pigeon egg was
.....
"This..." Someone broke the silence. His face was in disbelief.
"What is this situation? How is this one carat diamond more dazzling and eye-catching than the ten-carat pigeon egg?"
"Isn't this the diamond that was worth four million three years ago? I was at the auction at that time. The light reflected from it was so dazzling. How can this be?"
"Could it be that... it is a fake?"
"What that loser said was true?"
The murmuring and chattering started. Those who spoke up were the family heads. They were knowledgeable in this field and were not afraid to offend anybody. They could not help but to start discussing it.
Some could not resist looking at Harvey York. Was this a lucky hit for the live-in son-in-law? Or did he really know about diamonds?
Senior Zimmer's face drastically changed upon hearing these words. He glared at Zack with dissatisfaction, hoping that he would quickly rectify the situation. This text is © NôvelDrama/.Org.
This was making things worse! If he wanted to propose, he could have just taken out a diamond which was worth a few carats! How could he fish out this fake diamond ring instead? What if Wendy Sorrell rejects his offer? The Zimmer family's reputation would be as good as gone!
Yvonne was unperturbed by the reactions of the people around her. Instead, she heaved a sigh of relief and retreated from the area. She just wanted to make sure that it was not the pigeon egg she helped to bid for three years ago. Else, she would not know how to explain to the CEO. Everything else was none of her business.
Yvonne did not say a word on whether the pigeon egg was real or fake. It was not her position to discuss the trivial matters of the Zimmer family. Why would it matter if it was real? What if it was a fake one? None of that mattered to her.
Senior Zimmer saw that Yvonne kept mum about the situation. He then glanced over at the embarrassed Zack and laughed out. "Now, now, everyone. The Zimmer family is quite a reputable family after all. Ho could we possibly take a fake diamond ring out during a crucial time such as a marriage proposal? I think there is a misunderstanding here. This diamond ring was not bought from the auction three years ago. I bought this from South Africa many years ago. However, due to its lackluster cutting and color, we've never taken it out to announce to the public. We've made ourselves a laughing stock in front of everyone tonight. This item may not be worth four million, but I did spend hundreds of thousands on it."
After hearing Senior Zimmer's words, all those who claimed that the diamond ring was fake earlier had a moment of realization. According to Senior Zimmer, this diamond was real, but the quality was just not up to par.
Zack threw an appreciative look to his own grandfather. He had only spent twenty dollars that afternoon to buy this item from Amazon which covered express delivery. The seller asserted that no one would be able to tell the difference with just their naked eyes. He took for granted that Wendy would not find out, but he never thought that he would be exposed by Yvonne.
He then thought about how Yvonne chose not to say anything during such a crucial moment. Zack's heart turned warm. Had Yvonne fallen in love with him? She was willing to protect his reputation at such an important moment. Could it be that he had such an outstanding performance that day which ended up attracting her? If that was the case...
Zack was in a dilemma at that instant. If he knew earlier that Yvonne had some interest in him, why would he propose to Wendy? Their statuses were as different as night and day!
However, Zack was already riding the tiger at this point. It would be hard to dismount from such a wild ride. The situation had escalated this far. He naturally knew that he had no other way out. The expression in his eyes changed slightly as he turned toward Wendy with a gentle face. "Wendy, please marry me."
Wendy finally came to her senses at this moment.
She looked at Zack who was kneeling on one knee in front of her. She instinctively dodged him with a furious face.
The audience all looked at each other when they saw Wendy's reaction. Had this granddaughter-in- law of the Zimmer family gotten angry?
Zack was stunned himself. He quickly said, "Wendy, although this diamond is not the pigeon egg which is worth four million from three years ago, but its value is still in the hundreds of thousands. It's not a fake item... Please don't be angry. Promise to marry me and I will find a way to buy that pigeon egg worth four million for you..."
