Chapter 457

The night was quiet. Agnes was sitting solo on the couch in her room.

It was as if she was swallowed by the darkness.

This was Maplewood Manor.

Agnes had been back for a long time. It was already 2 in the morning, and Jared hadn’t come back.

Agnes had no idea where Jared had gone.

It seemed like a ton had gone down today.

From finding out she was knocked up, running into Valeria, to setting up Beatrice for a cheating

scandal.

And to top it off, she found out a major secret about the Whitfield family.

Agnes felt beat.

She didn’t even know why she came back, maybe she had nowhere else to go.

Laura and her daughter hadn’t moved out yet, they would for sure be back at Pritchard Mansion

tonight.

After all that went down tonight, Agnes didn’t want any more drama.

She came here knowing Jared had been crashing at the Whitfield Manor lately.

Tim was said to be in poor health recently. Agnes‘ hand unconsciously went to her belly. There was a

little life inside her now.

Agnes knew she needed to take care of herself, and not stay up late, but she wasn’t sleepy at all. She

didn’t even know how long she had been sitting on the couch when suddenly, the door was pushed

open.

In the darkness, a silhouette stumbled in.

Agnes was startled. But she immediately recognized it was Jared.

Jared didn’t turn on the light, he walked straight over, reeking of booze.

Agnes knew Jared could hold his liquor, his friends even gave him a nickname, “King of Wine“.

But seeing Jared staggering, it was clear he was wasted. How much had he drunk?

Jared was originally heading towards the bathroom.

He was stripping off his clothes as he walked.

But suddenly, he saw the silhouette on the couch, and he froze. Content rights belong to NôvelDrama.Org.

In the darkness, they stared at each other for a good two minutes.

Both were as still as a statue.

Actually, they couldn’t even see each other’s faces.

There were no lights on in the room, and the curtains were tightly drawn.

But at that moment, Agnes could almost picture Jared’s shocked expression.

The next second, Jared walked straight over, snuggling up to Agnes like a child, “Honey, I missed you

so much.”

The word “Honey” made Agnes‘ heart ache.

Jared plopped down onto the couch.

The couch wasn’t big, he had to curl up.

His head was resting on Agnes‘ lap, just like a child.

Agnes sat there like a statue, she didn’t expect Jared to come back this late.

The smell of liquor was strong.

Jared was lying on Agnes‘ lap, looking very content. He fell asleep quickly.

Agnes finally stretched out her hand slowly, gently touching Jared’s face.

He had stubble on his chin.

Jared was always very strict about his appearance.

Before, Agnes would always tease him for living in a dust–free bubble.

But now, she could barely recognize him.

Even though she couldn’t see his face clearly, Agnes could feel that he had obviously lost a lot of

weight.

She knew he must’ve been having a tough time lately.

Agnes felt a lump in her throat.

It had been many days since she had a good look at him, had a good chat with him.

During this time, she became cold and ruthless, hurting him without hesitation.

But she was also torturing herself.

She was always on guard, like a tightly wound string.

Because Agnes knew that if she showed even a little weakness, she would never be able to leave.
