Chapter 518
Chapter 518
At night, Alyssa decided to pay Jared’s room a visit.
But she didn’t expect to find Jared sleeping in his bed.
The room was pitch–black, with the curtains tightly drawn over the floor–to–ceiling windows.
Alyssa had no idea when Jared picked up this habit.
Now, whenever he was having an emotional meltdown, he’d either bury himself in work or sleep all
day. He had quit smoking and drinking.
That’s because he once had a bleeding stomach from drinking and a bout of pneumonía from smoking.
Alyssa felt heartbroken. She wished she could take on all the pain herself. Belonging © NôvelDram/a.Org.
But she couldn’t help him. She had caused all this.
Her mistakes when she was young had finally caught up with her, but Jared was the one paying the
price. Alyssa switched on the light.
The sudden brightness made Jared blink.
He wasn’t actually asleep, just lying there with his eyes closed, staring at the ceiling.
When Alyssa turned on the light, he used the blanket to cover his eyes.
But Alyssa still saw it.
Even though Jared didn’t show any emotion, tears were trickling down his face, wetting his cheeks.
Alyssa was shocked.
Jared had never shed tears in front of her.
Even when he was a baby, he rarely cried.
Tim always said that their kid was born with a steady temperament, destined for greatness.
And Jared did turn out like Tim predicted.
He was sharp, with an extremely high IQ.
But he was always emotionless, showing an unusual calmness and indifference for his age.
Alyssa wasn’t entirely pleased about it.
She wished her child could be like other kids, laughing at a flower or getting excited about candy.
Both happiness and sorrow seemed to be luxuries for Jared.
But everything changed when Agnes entered the picture.
She was once thankful for it.
But she later realized, that was the beginning of all disasters.
Alyssa knew Jared didn’t want her to see him this vulnerable.
So she pretended not to see, and said in her usual tone, “You never eat airplane food. You must be
hungry after all this time. Get up and eat something before you sleep.”
Jared didn’t respond.
Alyssa continued, “I’m leaving now. Come out and have some soup later.”
Then she left.
Jared slowly moved the blanket away.
Alyssa hadn’t turned off the light.
The white light made Jared squint. His mind was filled with images of Agnes and that man.
And his child…
Kearney took Agnes to the Pritchard family’s mansion.
There was a faint red mark on Agnes’s neck.
Kearney frowned, “Do you want to go to the hospital?”
Agnes shook her head, “It’s nothing, he didn’t really put any strength, into it.”
Kearney could tell.
Even though the man looked furious enough to destroy everything, his hands were shaking when he
grabbed Agnes’s neck. He barely held onto her, he didn’t have the heart to go through with it.
He was still rational in that situation.
He couldn’t bring himself to do it in the end.
Agnes seemed to remember something suddenly, “Kearney, you didn’t use too much force, did you?
His hand, is it hurt?”
Kearney calmly said, “I didn’t go easy on him. His hand, even if it’s not broken, there’s at least a fracture. He’ll definitely be uncomfortable for the next ten days to half a month.”
