Chapter 46 – I’ll Go With You
Knowing there is a possibility that ‘X’ might have sensed that they are coming for him, the situation is now even more uncertain and dangerous than before!
Javier Zhong has no choice but to hide from Stephanie Ruan about their updated operation plan.
Because if she were to come along and something happened to her, he would never be able to forgive himself!
And so, it is a better idea to keep her at the hotel. This would also give him a peace of mind.
However, when Stephanie Ruan heard his perfunctory response, she could not pinpoint what was wrong with it…
She just has this strange feeling that something is not very right…
Though Stephanie Ruan agreed with him on the outside, she still has her own suspicions in her heart which kept coming back to her mind throughout the entire meal.
…
At the Presidential Suite, Stephanie Ruan stepped out of the bathroom in a white robe. With her hair still wet, she took a towel to dry it while returning to her room.
Meanwhile, Javier Zhong, who is seated in the living room, instantly shifted his focus from the work in his hands to the elegant woman walking past him.
It is highly unlikely that he would ever get used to this scene!
“I’ll dry your hair for you.” He stood up and followed after her to the room.
“No need for that, I can manage it on my own…” Stephanie Ruan casually responded to him as she sat in front of the dressing table and fumbled for the hair dryer in the drawers.
“Found it!” Just as she is about to take it out, Javier Zhong is one step ahead of her.
“I’ll do it.” Being an extremely stubborn man as he is, he switched on the hair dryer and began to blow dry her hair.
It might be because she had just come out of the shower that Javier Zhong noticed the skin on her face looked even softer than it already is.
On top of that, the fresh and addictive fragrance from her body wash is slowly enveloping him.
Well, he better look away from her now and try to divert his attention to something else before his breathing becomes erratic…
At the same time, Stephanie Ruan looked at him through the mirror with her misty eyes.Upstodatee from Novel(D)ra/m/a.O(r)g
Although her best friend, Daniel Yan, does take good care of her as well, she feels that somehow things are just a little different with Javier Zhong.
Looking at how the man is so focused on drying her hair, his seriousness and diligence have charmed her completely.
“…”
What is happening to her right now?…
Why is it that she is starting to have butterflies in her stomach??…
Is this what they call, love??
…
In the night, Stephanie Ruan found herself flipping around on the large king-size bed.
No matter how many ‘sheep’ she counted, she just could not fall asleep…
Frustrated, she sat up and pushed herself to the side of the bed, slid her feet into the bedroom slippers, and walked toward the mini counter to pour herself a glass of water.
Just then, Stephanie Ruan heard some strange shuffling sounds from the living area which is right outside her bedroom.
Since the entire Presidential Suite is carpeted, she could barely hear any footsteps. Instead, she could vaguely hear someone busy moving the seemingly large and bulky items across the room.
“??…”
“What is going on? Is Javier not asleep yet?” She thought to herself as she slowly leaned against the bedroom door, in hopes of figuring out what is happening outside.
However, the sound stopped abruptly and the entire suite became silent again.
Curious, Stephanie Ruan carefully opened the bedroom door, with an unnoticeable small gap that is just enough for her to peep outside with one of her eyes.
And it is only at this time that she realised Isaac Wen is also in the room…
“Chairman Zhong, the things are ready. We can set off now.” Although he spoke in a low voice, Stephanie Ruan could still roughly make out the muffled words.
Upon hearing that, Javier Zhong swiftly kept his documents aside, stood up from the sofa, and immediately left for the door with his secretary.
“??!…”
“Hold on… Where are they going with all these huge black duffle bags??” Stephanie Ruan subconsciously frowned as she thought to herself.
At that instant, she noticed that Javier Zhong has suddenly stopped in his footsteps and is about to turn around…
She anxiously closed the bedroom door shut.
Leaning her back against the door, she whispered to herself in disbelief, “Don’t tell me…”
Stephanie Ruan did not want to attract their attention. As such, she tried her best to make as little noise as possible while quickly donning her attire which was originally meant for tomorrow.
A hoodie jacket… slim-fit track pants… sneakers and a cap… She is in all black!!
With her hair tied up neatly into a ponytail, Stephanie Ruan decisively threw the things that she needed into a medium-sized backpack and is ready to set off as well.
Over on the other side, Javier Zhong who had paused in his footsteps earlier turned around and looked at the closed bedroom door.
Soon, he lifted one of his feet and began to take a few heavy steps toward the room until he is able to place his hand comfortably on the door handle.
His eyes carried a deep expression as he continues to hesitate about whether he should enter the room.
Deep in his heart, he knew very clearly that once he sees her, he would no longer be able to resist hiding the truth from her – that they are going for the operation and leaving her behind.
She would definitely be enraged but… it is for her own good after all. He would come back and deal with her dissatisfaction later.
After much internal struggle, Javier Zhong finally released the hand that was grabbing tightly onto the door’s handle.
“Let’s go.” He ordered coldly and left the Presidential Suite without turning back.
…
“Follow the cars in front!” Stephanie Ruan hopped into the taxi, passed a huge stack of money to the driver and urged him to speed up.
The driver was initially feeling sleepy after a long day of driving. To add on, it is already past midnight and this is his last customer of the day.
But seeing a large amount of money given to him out of nowhere, he had a sudden rush of adrenaline to stay focused and do a good job!
After all, he could only earn such a sum of money after working hard for half a year! So he definitely does not want to miss this good opportunity!
“Turn right!”
“Keep left!”
“Up ahead, turn left!”
Throughout the entire ride, Stephanie Ruan is fully focused on tailing the cars in front while analysing the electronic map on her phone.
Although the driver could also see when the cars are making a turn, she felt that it is still better for two eyes to see and to double confirm.
She really could not afford to lose them since she does not know where they are heading to!
Soon, they arrived near a forested area with only several small quaint cabins in sight. They parked their cars a distance away and the taxi driver also followed suit.
After which, Stephanie Ruan saw Javier Zhong’s men alighting from their respective cars and heading toward their designated locations, fully surrounding all the possible exits that ‘X’ – their wanted man, could take.
But she did not catch any glimpse of Javier Zhong…
Where is he??…
…
Meanwhile, Javier Zhong, who is seated in the car with Isaac Wen, looked out of the window and happened to spot a person moving in the woods.
But his shadow flashed past so quickly that he wasn’t certain if he had seen it correctly.
“Hand me a gun. I’m going down to take a look.” Javier Zhong ordered Isaac Wen with a cold tone.
Isaac Wen wasted no time and quickly passed him one while responding to him, “Chairman Zhong, I’ll go with you.”
“No need. Stay here and report to me once he is in your hands.”
…
After waiting for a few seconds, Stephanie Ruan caught Javier Zhong exiting his car.
But he is heading to the forested area… alone??!…
“Keep the change!” Stephanie Ruan told the driver, got off the taxi, and quietly followed after Javier Zhong.
