Chapter 50 (Clare)

Chapter 50 (Clare)

Alonso’s eyes staggered in their direction, “What’s Vincent doing here, I wasn’t aware that we were meeting with the Nefilim?” Nathan’s eyes widened, his back straightened up, clearly upset, “Watch yourself, Alonso, he’s my friend, I requested his presence, if you don’t like it, I suggest you leave.”

Her brother held Alonso’s gaze, and so did Alonso. Something was perturbing about the situation. Nadia didn’t seem to notice, she was too busy doing something on her cell phone.

Vincent settled himself back into the chair, and carelessly started to play drumming beats with the pads of his fingers on the armrest of the sofa, “I don’t care for childishness, call me what you will, it is I who shall outlive you after all.”

He gave Alonso a light smile, which didn’t reach his eyes, before his attention focused on her and Nathan, “What’s the problem, why couldn’t you call Jullie?”

Nathan ignored his question, “Clare’s approaching the Orderian tomorrow, I’m sure you aware of the news circling.”

Clare watched the two of them pass certain stares at one another. Nathan and Vincent looked a little too preoccupied in looking at each other, it was like a silent conversation taking place, she gestured, “Are you dating each other?”

Nathan smacked her head, she screeched, “Shit, why did you do that.”

“Because you talking crap, and we exchanging info telepathically, it's quicker.”

Vincent laughed mildly before straightening his expression, “I’m versatile though.”

He looked at her with alluring eyes. An unwanted blush crept in her cheeks. With his tan complexion, and dangerously masculine features, the guy was hot, but he wasn't a guy she would go for.

“Seriously, Vincent,” A familiar voice echoed, throughout the room.

Clare almost knocked the plate off her knees, but managed to grab it just in time and put it down on the table, before turning to the person in the room, “Where did you come from?”

Kalbreal didn’t answer her, instead, he shook his head, a scowl marred his face, “He’s nine hundred years old, and a Caster.”

Clare sighed, “Then you must be like what? Moving in the thousands?”

Nathan stopped both of them, “We’re here to discuss the situation, both of you drop it, tomorrow at the court there’s going to be a representative of the Advisors, it unclear who it’s gonna be, but my guess whoever it is, might try and force authority, so that’s where Vincent comes in.”

Alonso walked toward them, “We still need permission from the Orderian and the Garde to go to the demon realms.”

Nadia disagreed, “Not necessarily, If the Casters agree, their decision would override the other Orderian because it’s partially their realm. Then It’ll be a vote from the Lightwatchers. Belongs to NôvelDrama.Org - All rights reserved.

Vincent smiled, “You’ve done your homework, but I’m not representing the Caster’s tomorrow.”

Kalbreal interjected, “Yes you are, Druscilla isn’t attending, she’s in Vancouver, and Jullie is unavailable.”

Vincent muffled a string of curses, “I know I’m going to regret this.”

Kalbreal tightened his lips, it was the first time Clare saw him look irritated, “I’ll pay you, handsomely.”

Everybody was quiet, all eyes on Vincent, “Okay, but Clare should approach them ALONE. Draiken women always have a way with words.”

Clare wasn’t certain she heard correctly, she couldn’t believe he really expected her to talk to people she didn’t know, alone. I mean they weren’t even real people, they were a different species, plus her encounter with the few descendants she had met, hadn’t been the most comforting of situations. In fact, she was certain that she made more enemies than friends.

Kalbreal agreed, “He’s right, if they’re going to be persuaded you should be the one.”

Alonso challenged, “Say she does, what if they refuse, We are famous for our stubbornness.”

Vincent got up, “I’ll give my vote, and I would even try to persuade the Queen but your people, THAT’s up to you.”

The room fell silent after the conversation. Vincent left and Nathan smiled at Clare now and then as they ate chocolate cake.

Nathan ran his fingers in his hair, which was already so messed up. Her eyes carried from one side to the other, every time he did it. He was irritated and on edge, and by the undisguised disgust on his face whenever he put eyes on Alonso, told her that any thought she had of Alonso and Nathan being friends was completely off course because he clearly didn’t like Alonso at all.

Nathan stood up and took her plate, “Give me five minutes and we’ll leave, you must be tired.”

He got up and went to the back, as he did this Kalbreal moved closer. She looked at his rich fire full eyes as they glowed in the lights, his jaw tightened, “Were you seriously born with eyes like that, it just seems… unnatural.”

“To earthling, yes, but not in the Infinity.”

“Infinity, you mean heavens.”

“You may call it that.” Just when she thought he would elaborate, he casually changed the subject, “I have this feeling about today, but I don’t know whether it’s good or not, but you should be careful.” He said, “Do you plan on getting acquainted with this place, OR are you going to make me hang?”

She laughed at him, “Seriously, people don’t use big words when they speak, and maybe I’ll make you hang just a tiny bit longer, just to help you along with that overconfident ego you got going on.” He threw his head back and laughed, it was an unaltered laugh, the tension in the room seemed to dissipate almost instantly.
