Chapter 47: Poison Cindy 

Weeping in her room, Courtney said to her mother Analisa on the phone, "Mother, the plan is not working! Luca caught me in bed with Elias! I told you, I never liked this ideal I want to see you -."

Courtney’s words were cut off.

Analisa warned her against it, "No, don’t! Luca had men come over here.You are safer there.Just tell Cindy that you broke up with Luca and he has gone mad! Don’t let him enter the mansion."

"Arrgh! What do we do now? Father is missing, and we did not even get anything yet." Courtney cringed.

"Poison Cindy! Give her an entire bottle.That will surely get her killed in one go!" Analise suggested

"What?" Courtney objected.

"How will that work?"

"Philip would have died either way.I just hope he is not being treated somewhere, but we can speed up Cindy’s death.Then, you get whatever you can.I’m not comfortable with Philip being missing.Something is up and I don’t like it! I told you never to trust Aurora! You should have poisoned her as I told you to!"

Analisa said on the phone, her screaming voice piercing through Courtney’s ears.

”No, buts! Do as I say, remember how this all started? It was because of Philip that I suffered Your real father suffered.We suffered!" Analisa reminded.

"If I did not switch you and Scarlett at the hospital when you were still babies, you would not have what you have now.Everything you have was all because of me! Be grateful to me… Now, do as I say!"

"No! I’m done! I’m tired of following your orders," Courtney objected.

"This! Is getting out of hand!"

"You think you can get away with this, Courtney? No.Not after you have colluded with me for a long time.How do you think it will end should they find out it was you who poisoned Philip? How do you think they will react should they find out you have been scheming against them?"

Analisa laughed on the phone.She added, "You are part of this whether you like it or not! So go and poison Cindy, now!"

After ending the call with her real mother, Courtney curled into a ball from within her room.She found herself thinking back to how it all began.

When she found out that she was not the real daughter of the Barnes, she felt her whole world crumble.

Thankfully, Cindy and Philip loved her.

Despite that, however, she was jealous of Scarlett Scarlett was the real daughter of the Barnes and Courtney feared she would lose her privileges and the love of her adoptive parents.

Back then, she also hated Analisa, but when her biological mother suggested they work together to get rid of Scarlett, she willingly agreed.She formed a relationship with Analisa that grew stronger over time.

Their first target was Luca.

Luca was Scarlett’s strength.

He was her powerful backing, one that Analisa never expected to happen.

Thus, they planned a way for Scarlett to lose Luca.

At first, Analisa tried to poison Luca, but he sought his own medical treatment and that was a learning lesson for the mother and daughter.

Neither of them had the power to influence Luca back then.

When their initial plan did not work, they proceeded in another direction.

Courtney seduced Luca and unfortunately for Scarlett, he gave in.

It was supposed to be a mistake on Luca’s part, but Courtney dropped the bomb on him.

She told a secret that only Scarlett knew; his illness and how he had become sterile.

It was because no one knew about his condition except for Scarlett that Luca fell into their trap, that and he was consistently being tempted by Courtney in bed.

Analisa and Courtney had the upper hand.

Of course, they knew the effects of the poison, including potentially becoming infertile.

They simply made Luca believe that it was Scarlett who spread about his ill fate, plus, other lies that they created.

Everything worked according to their plan.

Courtney and Luca spent more time together and Scarlett was getting out of the picture.

To carve a wave of deeper anger in Luca’s heart, however, Analisa suggested that Courtney offer herself to Elias and make him side with her against Scarlett.

Courtney never liked the idea, but Luca’s father had standards.

He had affairs with young girls and she happen to need a better reason for Luca to hate Scarlett.

In the end, she had sex with Elias in exchange for another lie.

Courtney had not approached Elias for another favor since, except that afternoon, when she and Analisa were desperate enough to get legal help.

He was not answering her calls and when she enforced her plan of getting another favor from Elias, Luca barged in the door and saw them in bed together.

Courtney knew everything was falling apart.She wondered how it all happened.

Recalling the day when Scarlett recently appeared before them, looking prettier and without a care for Luca’s glance, she muttered, "This was all Scarlett’s fault! It’s her fault! I hate her!"

She always knew Scarlett had a special place in Luca’s heart.

Despite how he had come to hate Scarlett, she always had this feeling that deep inside, Luca secretly cared about her.

All her suspicion came to light when Luca saw Scarlett, already in the arms of another man.

It was surprising what jealousy can do to a man! That was the reason why she kept feeding Luca more lies about how Scarlett was still pestering her about him.

She forced a smile and said to Cindy, "Mother, Luca, and I had a bad argument.We broke up in the end.Sorry to bother your sleep."

Feeling sorry for Courtney, Cindy embraced her tight.She caressed her back and said,"Maybe it’s for the better.It has been really hard on you, living in the shadows of Scarlett.You can move on.I know you can.Besides, I saw it coming.And I know you know it too.You and Luca had been off and I’m not just talking about recently either."

Courtney nodded.She let go of Cindy and said, "Mother, can we have tea together? Please? I need to calm myself down."

When Cindy nodded, Courtney suggested, "I’ll go make us our tea.We can have it on the patio.Have a good view while we are at it."

It took minutes for Courtney to prepare the tea.She walked out of the patio carrying a tray with two cups of tea.She smiled as she placed the hot drinks on the marble table.

"Here, mother.Let’s drink at the same time?" Courtney suggested.

Her smile was a little shaky.

Cindy simply smiled back, her hand reaching for the teacup.

"Stop! Don’t drink anything from her!"

Their heads snapped to a familiar voice.

Courtney’s skin crawled.
