Chapter 852 Change Of Plan (Part One)
In the CEO's office at the XS Hospital, Greg picked up the telephone and called the nurse station. Text © owned by NôvelDrama.Org.
"Hello," a nurse answered from the other end of the line.
"I am Greg Xiao. How is Kate Bai doing? Is she alright?" Greg asked seriously. He had just finished his
work at hand. Since Lawrence had asked him to pay special attention to Kate, he called and inquired of
her condition.
"She is fairly stable. We have been taking turns attending to her. Everything is OK with her," the nurse
reported.
"I see. If there is any emergency, just fill me in," Greg instructed as he ended the call.
Exhausted, he leaned back in the swivel chair, closed his eyes, and took a deep breath. There was so
much on his mind. 'Two days ago, Lawrence left for Hong Kong, and he was supposed to be with
Violet, ' Greg thought. It bothered him on end that his wife was still not coming home. But he knew, at
least her brother Lawrence would help reconcile them back. It wouldn't be soon though, if it was true
that Lawrence, Violet and maybe some other family member would most be on their way to America,
after Hong Kong. The only source of relief for Greg was the fact that Lawrence would be by Violet's
side. For that, he knew everything would go smooth as expected.
His reprieve was short-lived as his thoughts wondered to yet another issue that was putting on him a lot
of pressure. He was still worried about Kate Bai's health. At last, he decided to check on her in person.
Taking his white coat from the hanger, he put on it and walked out of the office.
Meanwhile, Sharon in the company of Sally had just driven through the gate at the XS Hospital and
parked the car in the garage.
Before they walked out of the car, Sally turned a sidelong glance at the hospital's name on top of the
building. "I heard Jackson's daughter had a surgery here?" she asked flatly.
"I suppose so," Sharon replied, "By then, Fred and I were not married yet, but I've heard it from him."
"Looks like things are getting interesting," Sally sneered. She opened the car door and stepped out.
Taking a signal from Sally, Sharon also followed out of the car and together, the two walked into the
imposing XS Hospital.
"Where's she?" Sally whispered to Sharon, reminding her to keep a low profile. Furtively going around,
they passed patients, patents' families, nurses and even doctors, without raising an eyebrow.
"Obviously, it has to be the VIP wing. That's the only place they could admit Aria's mother. That, I'm
pretty sure. Just follow me," Sharon answered. Quickening her pace, she walked before Sally and led
the way to the ward.
Compared to the common ward area, there were fewer people in the VIP area. The whole story was
deadly silent. Only the sound of Sally's footsteps could be heard, her high heels resounding all the way.
She glanced around only to see a nurse take several steps forward and enter a ward. There were just
the two of them in the aisle.
"Do you know her ward room?" Sally asked impatiently. When the XS Hospital was built, the owners
paid particular attention to the size of what would house the VIP wing, as they focused on serving
mainly the upper class. As such, it would take Sharon and Sally much longer to find Kate Bai if they
couldn't narrow down where she was. But Sally was not prepared to waste her time searching the
rooms one by one.
"As far as I remember, Fred always preferred having his friends admitted to D area. It's likely that Greg
admitted her in the same area. We can go there," Sharon assumed, albeit haltingly. Since Greg took
over XS Hospital, it became increasingly difficult for her to keep tabs on things. Under Greg, each
department was independent, and the loopholes for leaking information were virtually gone. Today,
they'd need to be patient.
"Take me there," Sally ordered, sounding a rather brusque.
Sharon nodded and lead her to the D area.
The two searched for a long time in the D area and they were about to give up. But just then, a name
tag on the door caught their attention. Finally, they had found Kate Bai- their quarry.
"Here she is. I'm sure," Sharon exclaimed gladly.
Carefully spying around for any signs of alarm, Sally took out a small bottle of liquid. "You know what to
do, right?" she asked, as she handed the bottle to Sharon.
"Absolutely! I do. Empty the liquid in it into her IV infusion bottle, if I'm not wrong," Sharon answered in
a low voice.
"Well, I see, your mama didn't raise no fool," Sally sniffed. For Sharon, that was praise enough to
nudge her on with their clandestine scheme.
With a hideous expression, she continued, "Now that Lawrence wants to protect this woman, I will give
him no chance to do that."
"Do you think Fred will throw me to jail if he gets to know this, Sally?" Sharon asked, trying to remain
calm, even though she was scared stiff at the thought that there would be consequences. But
arrogance got the better of her, and she pressed on assuming it wouldn't be possible for anyone to sniff
their crime.
Sally cast her a sidelong look. "It's not a big deal. You're his woman. If he doesn't help you after he
finds out, it would mean he doesn't love you wholeheartedly. But..." Sally paused before going on,
"Even if you went to jail, I'd go around the system to find a way to get you out. Don't worry."
The reassuring words allayed Sharon's fear. "You treat me best, Sally. I'm glad to have a friend like
you," she returned, the corners of her lips curving into a smile of relief.
"Just get inside. I'd like to see what kind of woman she is. How come her daughter captivated
Lawrence?" Sally snorted with sarcasm, nudging Sharon to enter the ward.
"Okay," Sharon replied as she raised her hand in an attempt to push the door open.
