Chapter 19 It’s Because You’re Here That I’m Afraid
I’ve got to keep my distance from him in the future. Since he doesn’t allow me to participate in this project, I’ll just forget about it. If I have too much interaction with him, it’ll make me look as though I’m coming on to him instead. Unexpectedly, as soon as Stella returned to her seat, someone came looking for her. Surprisingly, it was Ximena. She just has to pester me endlessly! It seemed as though there was going to be a show.
“Mrs. Levitt.” Ximena greeted her with her arms crossed.
In the meantime, Stella merely sat at her seat without saying anything, pretending to be focused on reading a document.
“Yesterday, Mr. Levitt came to my place again. He told me that you’re wanton and cheated on him,” Ximena said loudly. When the others heard such gossip, the entire office swung their gazes over with bated breath.
Still, Stella remained silent. Ximena was a supermodel, so she was very tall, especially when she was now wearing a pair of ten-inch high heels that were pointed and thin. As Stella sat there, she surreptitiously stared at the pair of high heels out of her peripheral vision. How does she even walk in those shoes?
“You don’t need me to name the man, do you, Mrs. Levitt?” Ximena wore a smug expression on her face. This belongs to NôvelDrama.Org.
All at once, Stella sprang up from her chair. “Stop this slander! I stayed at the hotel alone yesterday, so it was impossible—”
Her livid expression was exactly what Ximena had hoped for. “Alone? I’m going to announce the man’s name then.” At this, she gazed at Miles’ office in the distance. The office wasn’t big, so everyone was
working in the same open space. She’d heard about the magnificence of Miles Conglomerate’s headquarters, but she’d never been there. Nonetheless, she figured out Miles’ office at a single glance.
In the meantime, however, Miles didn’t hear the racket outside.
The moment Stella heard that Ximena wanted to announce Miles’ name, she panicked and instinctively pushed her.
Ximena instantly blanched and tottered on her feet before taking a fall.
At the sight of that, Stella glanced at her hand, surprised that Ximena had taken a tumble when she didn’t even exert any force. It’s glaringly obvious that she came to make trouble! However, something even more surprising was yet to come. Blood gushed out from between Ximena’s legs, upon which everyone in the office swarmed over.
“You’ve killed your husband’s child, Mrs. Levitt!” Ximena’s vicious and glacial voice rang out.
Stella was at a loss for words. I knew this was a trap, but I’ve already fallen into it. Besides, everyone is now looking at me, so what should I do?
“Call an ambulance, quick!” someone blurted.
Instantly, Stella’s expression turned into one of panic. Coincidentally, Miles walked out of his office, seemingly on his way out. When he saw the commotion, he strode over with a frown and asked, “What happened?”
“It wasn’t me. It truly wasn’t me. I merely pushed her lightly, but she fell down.” Stella seemed to have no outlet to air her grievances, for everyone’s gazes were focused on Ximena. Her heart was a tangled mess as she wondered what Zane would do to her.
Meanwhile, Miles studied the blood around Ximena and on the floor carefully before ordering, “Send her to the hospital.”
“I’m not going to the hospital! I want Mr. Levitt to see that it was his wife who killed his child! I’m not going to the hospital. I’m not!” Ximena shouted as she swatted away the people around her. Unfortunately for her, there were just too many people that she couldn’t push everyone away.
At the same time, Miles glanced over his shoulder at Stella and signaled her to follow as well. Now, Stella was terrified because she’d killed Zane’s child. He might even kill me for such an unforgivable offense! Hence, she gazed at him tearfully, unconsciously pinning all her hopes on him. “I don’t dare to go. I’m afraid!” she murmured while shaking her head.
The situation was initially chaotic, but everyone had now dispersed thanks to Miles’ presence, so it was very quiet.
“What’s there to be afraid of with me here?” Miles stared into Stella’s eyes.
It’s because you’re here that I’m afraid! she thought.
Upon seeing that Stella was still wavering, Miles stepped forward and grasped her hand. Then, they followed Ximena’s car from behind. When they arrived at the hospital, Miles instantly went to the doctor. “How’s the expectant mother?” he asked, deliberately emphasizing the words ‘expectant mother’.
