Chapter 29
THE BUTLER'S WORDS continued to echo in Helga's mind, long after the sun had set, and night had fallen. She couldn't stop thinking about it, wanting to ask the other members of the royal park what would happen if she were to leave her chambers during the full moon tomorrow. But she could sense tense atmosphere in the palace, even though the traitors had already been apprehended. It felt like something was about to happen, possibly related to the curse of the Alpha King She pursed her lips in anticipation and gently pushed open the door to her room's balcony. A gentle gust of cool, fresh air greeted her as she stepped outside. She closed her eyes and took a deep breath, savoring the feeling of the soft breeze against her skin. As she opened her eyes, she was met with a breathtaki ew of the starry night sky above. The twinkling stars seemed to dance and sparkle, casting a peaceful glow over everything below. Suddenly, a familiar voice echoed up to her from below. She tightly clutched the railing and peered down to see David conversing with a passing guard. As their conversation ended, he lifted his gaz ked eyes with her, sensing her presence. "What's wrong. Your Majesty?" he inquired causing her to flinch slightly as addressing her by her new title always made her uncomfortable. Are you busy? I
I need to ask you something, she said softly, her gaze fixed on him. The beta cleared his throat and took a moment to-gather his thoughts; he had a feeling he knew what she was going to ask him. "I've finished all my work for today." He tried to hide any reluctance in his voice when speaking to her. "If you'd like, would you want to go for a walk with me?"
"Sure, wait for me." Helga nodded before heading back inside her chambers. She was lucky that she wasn't already preparing for bed, so her current attire was suitable for a walk. As she stepped out of her room, the two royal guards immediately bowed down, but she signaled for them to stay behind. "I be taking a stroll with Beta David, so there's no need for you to guard me." Helga stated confidently, and the guards shared unsure glances before finally nodding in agreement, causing her to smile and step outside where David was patiently waiting for her. "I haven't seen Portia today, did something happen?" she asked, hoping for a bit of light conversation before the serious discussion began. "She went to a nearby pack to handle some matters. She could be back by tomorrow; is there anything you need her for?" David glanced at her, leading her towards the garden. He was glad that she looked at ease despite the commotion earlier this morning.
heart ache.
"No, it just suddenly hit me that this was the first time I wouldn't be with Portia since we had met. It was strange not having her by my side," Helga chuckled, realizing that Portia had already become a big part of her daily routine. "We always spend time together every day, whether it was helping me get ready for the day, or enjoying afternoon tea," "It felt empty without her around," Helga added, and a realization hit her that she was already dependent on Portia and pretty much considered her as a friend-thinking back, she reminded her of Lorena and the thought that Portia might turn her back on her too made her "Anyway," she immediately composed herself, not wanting to let those thoughts overwhelm her, "The butler told me something about the palace's rule earlier, it's about tomorrow's full moon. He had warned me not to leave my chambers; may I ask if it is related to the Alpha King's curse?" David glanced at Helga out of the corner of his eye before shifting his gaze back to the path ahead. He was well aware that Siegren would be furious if he revealed the truth, but he couldn't shake off the feeling that Queen Luna needed to know. After all, she was the only one who could help his friend cope with the curse that always took over during full moons. After a long pause, he replied, "Yes, that's right. Have you heard the rumors about how the Alpha King took down an entire pack on his own?" 1/3 Chapter 29 hu, Oct
A heavy silence falls upon them, the wind tousling their hair as they move ahead. Helga dreads hearing the rest of David's words: she's aware of the rumors surrounding the Alpha King's past actions, but she refuses to believe them because she has never been one to give in to idle talk or gossip. "You're not actually telling me that is true, are you?" she asked, chuckling lightly.
"It's true." David confirmed, his voice carrying a hint of uncertainty. Helga halted in her tracks just as they reached the stone bridge that spanned across the pond. The rustling of leaves and the sounds of fish splashing against the water were the only sounds that broke through the silence of the night. In the distance, faint howls of wolves echoed through the dark forest of the palace, adding to the eerie atmosphere. A sense of unease washed over Helga, causing her palms to sweat and her heart. to beat faster. Slowly, she turned to face David, feeling an uneasy tens between them like a taut rope ready to snap. "The Alpha King only did that because of the curse. It was his first full moon after ascending to the throne, and he experienced the curse's power for the first time ever." David explained further, ying to protect and defend his childhood best friend when he saw how Helga's expression changed immediately; her fa il in concern and f "And the pack that he had killed was the pack which was plotting rebellion ainst him he added, "During each full moon, the Alpha King would succumb to a fierce craving for blood. If he didn't satisfy this urge by killing, his own body would begin to attack itself" Helga gasped, her heart racing and her stomach churning as she heard the full extent of the Alpha King's curse. She had thought it was just about his inability to smell and sense his destined mate. The rumor about meeting his gaze bringing bad luck might have been manageable, but what she had discovered tonight was much more daunting and alarming than she could have imagined. "S-so, does this mean that the Alpha King forbids anyone from leaving their quarters during a full moon to protect him? Because he could potentially harm anyone he encounters?" she inquired, clutching her shawl tighter as the wind picked up.

fear.
"That's right but let me clarify one thing. Siegren had not harmed anyone again since he lost his sanity during the initial onset of the curse, David's response was reassuring, trying to ease Helga's worries. "In the past four years, the Alpha King has been locking himself in a room during full moon to prevent any further incidents, but as a result, he suffers from excruciating pain that makes him feel like he is on the brink of death
Helga's finger twitched as she felt a wave of sympathy towards her husband. It occurred to her that not all the scars on his body were from battles, but perhaps also from the strain of fighting the curse.
"Is there anything we can do for him?" she asked, her curiosity overwhelming her worry, She finally understood why the Alpha King was building a wall between them.
"There is" David nodded, taking note of her genuine concern despite knowing the danger that the Alpha King possessed. "To tell you the truth, the main reason why there's a Lana Selection is because the Alpha King needs a mate who could help them ease the pain of the do you mean her brow slowly furrowed.
"In order to ease the King's intense pain and uncontrollable urge for blood, he needed to mate with the she-wolf that has his mark until his body and mind were calmed down."
Helga's jaw dropped as she tried to process the words that had just escaped David's lips. The meaning behind his statement was clear, yet her mind was having trouble comprehending it, so she stared at him in disbelief.
*I know Siegren will be angry if he finds out I told you about all of this," David's voice softened as he stepped closer to the queen, his hand resting gently on her shoulder. "But I couldn't bear to keep seeing him suffer during and after the full moon. That's why please, Your Majesty Help the king ease the pain of his curse." The beta's words struck Helga like a physical blow, his desperation etched into every line of his face and dripping from his every word. She could feel the weight of his request pressing heavily upon her, but she knew even if he hadn't asked for h help, she would still give it willingly. After all, as Siegren's wife, it was her duty to support and assist him in any way possible.

Taking a deep breath, she lowered her gaze to the ground, attempting to collect herself before responding. She couldn't help. but think of how Siegren had been pushing her away in recent days, and how he might refuse her help despite clearly needing it. But she wouldn't let that stop her-now that she knew everything, she would do everything within her power to ease his suffering and be there for him in his time of need.
*1 give you my word, David" she said, meeting the beta's eyes. "I'm sure he's going to push me away, but I will try my best to help him."
And with that, she found herself engulfed in a situation she never could have foreseen.
