Master of his heart (Brielle and Max)

Chapter 1455

Kailee just couldn't wrap her head around it. She was completely in the dark, glaring at him with all the annoyance she could muster.

"Say yes first, then we'll sort it out."

"And why should I agree? What's in it for me?"

Kailee frowned, feeling a bit put out herself. "You just said you can't get over me, right? If you can't forget me, that means you like me. And if you like me, you'd naturally want what's best for me." Lewis chuckled as he gently pried her fingers apart, one by one.

"You've got it all wrong. Sure, I can't 'forget' you-but that just means I remember your name and your face. After all, you're the first girl I ever broke up with. It's only natural I'd remember what you look like."

His smile was as carefree as a sunny day, making Kailee want to spit in his face out of sheer frustration. But she was an adult, and adults don't do that sort of thing. She took a deep breath.

"Then at least do it for the half a million."

"I'm not exactly hard up for cash right now."

Kailee didn't know much about Lewis's financial situation, but the guy had bought a house right after college graduation, so he must be doing alright for himself. His fashion sense, always wearing clothes that seemed tailor-made since she couldn't recognize the brand, was a giveaway of his refined taste. But that wasn't the point. The real puzzle was, how could a guy living in a rundown neighborhood not need money?

"Lewis, you must be joking. You don't even own a car, living in that place, and you're saying you don't need money? Come on, man. Drop the pride. Even if you got a million-dollar settlement, nobody thinks they have too much money."

Lewis glanced at the card on the table, his long fingers pushing it back towards her. The message was clear: he wasn't interested.

Kailee felt a rush of panic. She couldn't lose face in front of those gossip girls, especially after boasting about her wealth. If they found out Lewis was the one who dumped her, she'd never live it down.

"What do you want, then?" she asked, desperation creeping into her voice.

That was exactly what Lewis wanted to hear.

"If you're so worried about them finding out I dumped you, it's simple. Just get back together with me and then you can dump me."

A spark lit in Kailee's eyes. This guy was a genius!

That settled it. She sat back down. "Alright, it's a deal. From now on, we're a couple."

Lewis's gaze flickered, a mischievous glint in his eyes as if a fox had just swished its tail behind him.

"Kailee, I only suggested it. I didn't say I'd accept your pursuit."

Great. Now, not only had he dumped her, but he'd also gained the noble title of rejecting her advances. Kailee was seething. Was this jerk setting a trap for her?

She took a deep breath, knowing full well it was a trap but better than being the laughing stock of her frenemies.

"Lewis, what will it take for you to agree to be with me?"

Kailee's mind was a total blank, not realizing she had initially wanted to confront Lewis but was now begging him to be with her.

Lewis calmly smoothed out his shirt, rumpled from her earlier grasp.

"To woo someone, you need to show some real effort."

Kailee squinted, sensing something was off but couldn't pinpoint what it was. After leaving the diner, it hit her. If Lewis went straight to Ruben and spilled the beans about her rejection, she'd be the joke of the century.

She rushed back.

"Lewis, until I win you over, we keep this between us, got it?"

Lewis chuckled, "That depends on how sincere you are."

Kailee breathed a sigh of relief, then started to panic once she was back in her car. What did 'effort' even mean? When she was chasing King, she didn't do anything special, just made sure to be around him, making her presence felt. Clearly, that wasn't going to cut it this time.

Deflated, Kailee pulled out her phone to do some research.noveldrama

How to pursue a guy?

After a moment, she edited her query.

-I come from a wealthy family, so wealthy I could spend millions a day without batting an eye. So here's the dilemma-how do I chase a guy living in the slums, who's got a sharp tongue and looks... well, average at best?
