“What about that mysterious guy she met online?”

“There is no guy. She made the whole thing up. She didn’t admit it, but at least she didn’t speak for him anymore. She wasn’t into it last night. We both were. And sex was a pretty effective way for her to calm down a little bit. Did you talk before or after?”

“Both before and after. She’s still asleep right now. And you know, she’s so cute, she’s wrapped up in a blanket, and I don’t even want to wake her up. What do you think, should I leave her at the cottage? Come to the office myself?”

“You just warn her, or she won’t understand that you left her alone in bed and left. I don’t think she knows the area either.”

“Yeah, she wanted to walk yesterday when she realized I didn’t bring her home. But I convinced her to stay.”

“Oh, yeah. I know you well enough. You’re more persuasive than anybody.”

“Don’t be sarcastic, Vlad. So, when’s the meeting?”

“In half an hour.”

“Shit! There’s no way I’m gonna make it in time. Vlad, why don’t you call in sick? Or make something up. I don’t want to go to work.”

“Listen, you’ve been skipping a lot, boss.”

“Yeah, there’s a very good reason for that.”

“All right, I’ll go see him myself today. But don’t set me up like that again.”

“You’re the best. Let’s go to the cottage after Makarsky. How much longer? It’s time you two finally met.”

“If it works out, I’ll be there.”

“No ifs. We’ll be waiting for you,” Vova declares and hangs up.

What should I do?

Today I definitely can’t avoid meeting Rostova. Damn! And that Makarsky. He’ll eat my brain with a teaspoon before agreeing to a deposit. Yeah, it’s gonna be a tough day.
