Chapter 185
This was the answer Selena never imagined she'd hear. Everett, of all people, was actually saying he'd try to meet her emotional needs. Hadn't he always dismissed her feelings, acting like Margot was the only one in his heart? A whirlwind of emotions swept over Selena, leaving her heart in a complete mess. Her long lashes fluttered as she tried to steady herself.
"Hmm?" Everett's lips brushed softly against her cheek, waiting for her response.
For three long years, Selena had loved him without any hope. No one knew how much she'd wished Everett would just turn around and notice her, acknowledge her feelings. And now, it seemed so close.
She was almost ready to nod, seduced by the moment. But then, fireworks exploded overhead, bursting into radiant colors.
The sound snapped her back to reality. Her heart raced, but instead of speaking, she pushed him away, stepping off the Ferris wheel with haste.
Everett's eyes narrowed, irritated. He could tell Selena had almost given in. 'Women,' he thought, 'always so wrapped up in emotions.' Someone like Selena essentially lived for love and romance. She adored trivial things and called it romance.
If he wasn't trying to win her over, Everett would never be caught dead on a Ferris wheel. It seemed so childish to him. If his business rivals saw him, they'd have a field day laughing.
Success seemed almost inevitable. Who on earth decided to set off those blasted fireworks?
Usually composed and suave, Everett found himself cursing for the first time.
Derick, hiding while setting off the fireworks, suddenly sneezed multiple times. He wrapped his coat tighter, feeling the chill of the night air.
But for the sake of Mr. and Mrs.
Everett's love story, catching a cold seemed a small price to pay! Surely, once they patched things up and were all sweet again, Mr. Bennett would repay him with a doubted

Thinking of this, Derick felt reinvigorated and set off the fireworks with renewed enthusiasm.
Selena got back to the car, her mind still restless. Derick was nowhere to be seen, which was just as well; she needed a moment of peace to think.
So much had happened in a few short hours. Her mind was swirling, and now wasn't the time for rash decisions. Making the wrong choice was too easy in such a state.
Five minutes later, Everett opened the opposite door and got in. The cold wind clung to him, and Selena instinctively leaned toward the window, putting some distance between them.
But Everett took her movement the
wrong way. Just when everything
was about to work out, someone had messed it all up, and now Selena acted like he was toxic. He held his anger back until right this moment, and it finally burst forth.
Everett had never been known for his patience. Behind his refined exterior was a man with the fierce nature of a wolf. Once he had his eye on something, he wouldn't let it slip away.
Still fired up from earlier, his blood was hot, boiling within him, demanding release.
Suddenly, Everett's hands were on Selena's waist, lifting her effortlessly. She let out a startled cry. "Ah-"
In the next instant, she found herself on his lap, face to face with him, in an undeniably intimate position. "Mrs. Bennett, why did you run off just now? You still haven't answered me."
