Mission: From Divorcee to Millionaire

Chapter 468

Patience is key when it comes to the bigger picture!

Ava grumbled to herself, thinking about who else it could possibly be if not that annoying mistress he kept on the side. Always causing trouble, that one. Still, she recalled her lady's advice to keep things peaceful for now, not wanting to risk their plan for leaving tomorrow. She forced a smile, trying to play innocent, "Who else could it possibly be?"

Just this morning, she had run into the lady's soon-to-be ex-husband, Everett, who shamelessly tried to cozy up to her again. Seriously, what separated couple still shares a bed?

Everett picked up on her sarcasm immediately, shooting her a sharp look, "Ava!"

His patience with her was mostly because of her years of loyal service and the fact that Selena liked her. Even after Ava's past betrayal, he had only given her a slap on the wrist. Ava blinked as if butter wouldn't melt in her mouth, "Oh, sir, I wasn't talking about you. No need to get defensive unless you're hiding something."

He gave her a cold stare, his presence alone demanding respect. Ava finally zipped her lips, knowing when to stop.

Everett pulled out a chair, sat down, and dug into his breakfast, only to grimace at the first bite. It looked fine, but it tasted completely off, almost like it was inedible.

With a clatter, he dropped his fork, grabbed his coffee, and took a sip to wash away the taste. But his face twisted even more-it was loaded with sugar, way too sweet to stomach!

His expression darkened, and he barked, "Ava, what did you do?"

Ava couldn't help but throw in another jab, "Sir, I made it just like always. If it doesn't suit you, maybe you should try eating elsewhere. You're probably more accustomed to those fancy meals from your flings anyway." That was a thinly-veiled dig. Everett's face grew even more serious.

Realizing she shouldn't push her luck further, Ava quickly backed down, "Sir, would you like me to make you another breakfast?"novelbin

But by then, his appetite was long gone. Everett stood up, striding out of the dining room and heading upstairs.

When he entered the bedroom, he found Selena lying on her side, her hand resting under her cheek, breathing softly, eyes closed as if she were resting. She looked a bit pale.

Maybe his presence had upset her. Everett's steps slowed as he approached the bed, gently lifting the blanket and lying down beside her, wrapping his arms around her slender frame.

Selena wasn't actually asleep. She couldn't sleep, not with him around. She didn't want to see him, afraid she might lose control and do something rash in her anger.

If it weren't for Mateo, she might not have held back, determined to make them pay. But Mateo mattered more than anything.

She bit her lip, trying to keep a calm facade, pretending to sleep until he left. Yet her body betrayed her, trembling slightly from anger and disgust.

Everett noticed, "You're awake?"

Selena clenched her fist, pressing it against her lips, still silent.

"Are you feeling okay?" he asked, noticing something was off. Her light trembling concerned him, and he quickly checked her forehead, neck, and back, noticing a hint of sweat.

He worried about her health or if there was an issue with the baby, given past complications.

"Even if you're upset with me, your health comes first. Don't be stubborn!"
