Mission: From Divorcee to Millionaire

Chapter 7

In the next moment, Selena snapped out of it and shoved him away with a fierce determination. "I want a divorce, and it's not because of this!" she declared. Everett's handsome face turned as dark as a stormy night. "Oh really? If it's not about the money, then what's it about?"

Selena's eyelashes fluttered with emotion. If she had to pinpoint her biggest regret over the past three years, it would be taking Joy's advice when all her attempts to catch his eye had failed. Joy had assured her that, given what she knew about Everett, being gentle and soft wouldn't work, so she had to try the opposite approach.

"You gotta spend his money like there's no tomorrow," Joy had said. "Demand gifts left and right-where a man spends his money, that's where his heart is."

Back then, Selena was desperate, so she went along with it. She started buying only the most expensive things, pestering him to buy more and more stuff. That's how she ended up with a second credit card.

But to a man as wealthy as Everett, the money she spent was a drop in the ocean. It didn't even make him blink, let alone notice her more. Instead, it became a stick he could beat her with during their arguments a sign of her supposed greed.Text © 2024 NôvelDrama.Org.

After they got married, her uncle and aunt hinted that she should nudge Everett to help her family more, but she always refused, using her lack of business knowledge as an excuse. She never asked him for anything.

She was his wife, so spending his money shouldn't come with guilt. But when it came to the Bennett Corporation, she had her pride.

Still, he lumped all these accusations on her.

Selena's lips turned pale, and she opened her mouth as if to explain, but then she just smiled at herself a little bitterly.

"Got nothing to say?" Everett smirked, letting out a derisive snort.

He released her, casually adjusting his cuffs, slipping back into his usual composed and superior tone. "I can agree to the business deal, but you need to come home tonight. No more clubbing or wearing those revealing outfits. Remember who you are." Just this afternoon, Derick reported on her recent activities, showing him one outrageous photo after another, which made the vein in his forehead throb like mad.

"Grandpa's seventieth birthday is coming up. Do you want people gossiping about him at his own party, driving him to an early grave?"

"Mr. Bennett." Selena met his dark eyes, her voice steadier than it had ever been. "Your business with my uncle is your affair. I don't understand it, nor will I involve myself."

She reached into her purse, pulled out a credit card, and handed it to him. "Take it back, along with everything you've ever bought me. It's all in the villa-I didn't take a single thing."

Everett's gaze dropped to the card, his expression growing colder. "What are you trying to say?"

"Isn't it obvious? I don't want any of it anymore. I just want a divorce!"

Selena wasn't done. She added, "You said I was insatiable, right? Well, you're right. After the divorce, I'll get new stuff! I don't want any of my old things!" Including him.

Everett's anger flared again, barely controlled. "Selena, have I been too easy on you lately?"

Selena just chuckled, a mocking edge to her voice. "Do I deserve your so-called niceness?""

In his eyes, nothing she did was ever good enough. Only the favored Margot could act fearlessly around him.

Unfortunately, Selena was the one he was tired of.

Everett's eyes burned with anger, and he nearly grinding his teeth. "Is this all about getting a child?"

He recalled her odd behavior started that night. It was all about a child.

Selena paused, then countered, "What? Have you changed your mind? Do you think I'm worthy of having your child now?"

Everett's reaction was as expected. A deep irritation clouded his gaze, and he replied without missing a beat, "Don't even think about it!"

"My patience is wearing thin. I'll say

it one last time: I can give you the project but you need to take back what you said and apologize. Then we can forget this whole mess!"

In other words, he was offering her an out, and she should be smart enough to take it.

In the past, Selena wouldn't have needed him to offer her a way out; she'd create one herself, even if it meant getting hurt.

Selena's eyes twinkled with a smile. "I guess I should thank you for your overwhelming generosity."

She was strikingly beautiful, with a

mix of innocence and allure. When

she smiled, she looked cunning and sexy enough to make anyone's heart skip a beat. Everett's gaze darkened, his Adam's apple bobbing

involuntarily.

Seeing her like this made some of his coldness fade, but Selena cut in just as he was about to speak, her eyes unblinking. "Everett, keep dreaming. An apology is out of the question. The divorce is happening, and I'm entitled to half of everything you own!"
