Chapter 36 If He Wanted to Have It, Just Say It. Don’t Fake Elegance and Coldness

While Riley was staring at her, a cold and indifferent female voice came slowly from across the table.

Riley raised her head to see who it was. Then she saw a tall and slender woman who was wearing a

doctor’s gown standing at one side of the table. She had a clean Sassoon Bob which reached her ears.

Her hair ends were waved. The hair beside her cheeks were slightly curled inwards. Because of the

hair style, the woman’s face, which was already delicate, appeared more elegant.

The woman had a light makeup. Her eyelashes were brushed carefully, which were distinct and clear.

She was wearing rosy red lipstick. When she opened her mouth, it looked like a flower opening. She

was a capable and sexy woman.

The calmness between her eyebrows made her look like an ever-victorious general who had gone

through countless battles.

Inside the doctor’s gown was a light-purple shirt. The top two buttons of the shirt were undone, and her

skinny clavicalis were showed. The pair of black trousers wrapped the bottom of the light-purple shirt.

She was wearing a pair of black high-heeled shoes, which supported her thin, long legs.

“I am sorry. I didn’t know it was your book.” Riley pushed the book across the table and put it before the

woman. Then she moved her coffee cup nearer to her.

There wasn’t a name card on the woman’s gown, so Riley didn’t know who she was. Besides, as far as

she knew, there had never been such a beautiful doctor in this hospital. If there was truly a gorgeous

and stunning doctor such as this one in JD Central Hospital, it would be impossible for her to not know

it.

The woman picked up the medical book, “You are the best doctor in department of cardiology Riley

Watson?”

The woman had glanced at Riley’s name card before, but she wasn’t so sure. She couldn’t believe

Riley Watson was so young and beautiful.

“I am Riley Watson, but I am afraid I am not the best doctor in department of cardiology.” They had only

exchanged a few words, but Riley could feel that this woman was not easy to get along with or

communicate with.

The woman said impatiently, “If you are, just say yes. If not, just say no. There is no need to fake

modesty. If my memory is right, you need to treat an outpatient this afternoon. Shouldn’t you be

preparing for it?”

Riley frowned. Who did she think she is, commanding and ordering her? Besides, it was still early now.

“I am sorry, but who are you?”

The woman was not nice to Riley, so Riley wouldn’t treat her kindly either. The woman acted like she

pleased without considering the feelings of others. Did she consider herself Riley’s leader already?

The woman raised her mouth corner contemptuously. The she began leafing through the book. She did

this to show her despise for Riley for not knowing who she was. The woman didn’t even reply to Riley.

Oh! So many people were holding their heads high nowadays! So it turned out that Lydia Saunders

wasn’t the only one having this ability.

“Director Pouchain, you are here. I have looked everywhere for you!”

Before Riley could stand up, Director Patrick from department of cardiology began striding towards

them. Director Patrick was talking to the woman in front of Riley who despised everyone.

Hearing this, Riley felt like her heart stopped beating for a moment. Didn’t they say the new vice

director was a man? Riley had heard a lot about how excellent this man was. But it turned out it was a

woman? Jeanne stood up and nodded her head, “Director Patrick.”

Seeing the two best doctors in department of cardiology were all here, Director Patrick smiled and said,

“Riley, you are here too. That’s good. Have you made each other’s acquaintances? This is the

backbone of our department of cardiology, Riley Watson and Dr. Watson too. And this is the new vice

director of our department, the doctor of medicine from Harvard, Jeanne Pouchain and vice director

too. You are both young and capable doctors. Haha!”

No matter how excellent Riley was at her job, her position was still lower than Jeanne’s. So she

couldn’t speak first and only nodded her head as a greeting.

Jeanne closed the book and said in an unkind tone, “We have met. As for the “best doctor” part, we will

see about it.”

To ease the tense, Director Patrick kept smiling. Director was about fifties and wore a pair of glasses

with gold wire frames. His eyes were not big. When he smiled, his eyes were reduced to two narrow

slits, which made him look funny.

In the afternoon, Riley just did her work as usual. She was kept busy for the whole afternoon. Before all

her patients were attended to, it was already six o’clock.

After work, Riley was so tired. She went home. Because she had to write her essay, she didn’t have

time to make a decent dinner. Therefore, she headed to the convenience store and bought a bag of

instant dumplings. After she put the dumplings into the pot with boiling water, Riley leaned against the

door frame and began reading.

The academic title of professor was a big deal. Only one or two places for the academic title of

professor were allocated to a department. Besides, normally only experienced doctors who had went

through enormous surgeries could get the application form. So it was a surprise to her that she got it

too.

Thinking of this, Riley seemed to understand that vice president Mr. Nygard was indeed taking care of

her privately before he was transferred.

While the dumplings in the pot were already bubbling, Riley was still consumed with her reading. She

was thinking about a terminology and didn’t pay attention to the pot. Then the dumplings were all ready

for plate and the boiling water began overflowing the pot.

“You want to commit suicide?”

“Pang!”

Euan’s cold and harsh scolding overlapped with the sound of the book’s dropping on the ground.

Riley’s first response was thinking why he came back suddenly?!

Then she thought of the dumplings.

Euan’s long legs walked past Riley and he turned off the gas in a swift way. A pair of blood-thirsty eyes

were fixated on Riley. It seemed like he intended to stare a hole out of Riley’s face.

The pot was made all wet by the dumpling soup. White, slimy soup flowed across the kitchen table and

kept spreading. There was plenty of it on the ground too.

“I......I wasn’t paying attention. You go ahead. I will clean up.” Riley picked up the medical book on the

ground and put it on the bookshelf. Then she rolled up her sleeves and grabbed the rag before

beginning to clean up.

Euan seethed in silence. His slender and tall figure stood behind her. He really wanted to seize her by

the throat and ask her what if something happened!

However, watching the way Riley cleaned the kitchen table in silence, Euan swallowed down the anger

that was choking his throat. It was almost unbelievable that Euan suppressed his anger.

“All right! Get out!”

Riley didn’t stop after what he commanded, “I smudged Mr. George’s cook. I will take responsibility and

clean them up.”

“It’s true that the cook can be cleaned up. But Riley Watson......”

Euan’s cold voice rose up behind Riley. There was a tinge of anger in his voice, which evidently

indicated that he was suppressing something. But it couldn’t be figured out what he was suppressing.

Riley began to listen carefully, be Euan stopped talking.

However, Riley’s eyes and heart were stained. How did she clean them up?!

After cleaning up the cook, Riley opened the pot’s lid. Over twenty white, palatable dumplings were

floating on the surface of the water. They were shrimp stuffing dumplings. With the lid being opening,

the tasty smell spread out.

Riley asked coldly, “You want it?”

Euan, “...”

Riley took his response as a “No”, so she put all the dumplings on a single plate. Then she carried the

plate to the table and put it down. She put the chopsticks on the plate and then walked back to the

kitchen to prepare a dish with vinegar.

But when she got back to the dining table, the plate of dumplings was now before Euan. His long and

slender fingers were holding the chopsticks which were clamping half of a dumpling...

Riley frowned. If he wanted to have it, he could just say it. Why did he have to pretend to be cold and

elegant?

Riley put down the dish with vinegar and said nothing. Then she went back to get one more pair of

chopsticks and dish of vinegar. She sat across from him and picked up one dumpling with the

chopsticks. Then she dipped it in the vinegar as if there was no one across from her.

Two of them sat across from each other and ate dumplings in silence. One, two, three... Their

chopsticks were picked up and put down alternatively.

The atmosphere was so bizarre. The dumplings were getting fewer and fewer, but Euan said nothing.

Normally, he couldn’t get through the day without taunting and jeering at Riley.

Euan carefully tasted the instant dumplings, the food regarded as junk by him. It was so damn

delicious. But Riley, who was sitting across from him, didn’t have any expression on her face. She

seemed to detest his joining.

“I will go for a business trip tomorrow.”

Out of nowhere, Euan spoke the first sentence.

A business trip? Why did he have to tell her?

Oh, was he telling her that the owner of this house was leaving tomorrow and that she should carefully

check the house in case of any accident?

“I am moving tomorrow. Hendrix had been here once. He wouldn’t come for a second time.”

Riley answered coldly. What she said was rational and objective, which complied with her style.

Euan exerted much strength on his fingers, which almost broke the chopsticks, “If he had come once,

he would come for a second time. Are you expecting me to personally invite you to come back when he

revisits?”

Riley raised her eyes and looked at Euan. There was only a table between her and Euan, but she felt

like he was so far away from her. No matter how hard she tried to come close to him, in the end, she

could only look up at him from across the sea.

“I will contact Hendrix and ask him not to come back. If he wants to meet you, he can find a coffee shop

or a restaurant.” Riley slightly pursed her pink lips. There should be the tasty smell of dumpling in her

mouth, but how come she only tasted bitterness?

Euan’s voice got deeper and he said word by word, “I see. Maybe the best place will be the George's

Mansion. Or do you want to attend the family feast of the George family again?”

The phrase “family feast” was like a taboo to Riley. And Euan knew clearly that it was what she disliked

most and what she would do everything to avoid.

“Okay, I will stay. But as far as I am concerned, while you are on your business trip, he wouldn’t come

here.”

“You know what he is thinking?”

A simple rhetorical question included endless sarcasm.

Riley held her chopsticks tightly. Her appetite was all gone now and she felt stuffed instantly, “No. How

can I know what’s going on in the mind of young masters of the George family?”

Riley put down her chopsticks. When the conversation got disagreeable, to say one word more was a

waste of breath. While there was nothing left to say, she might as well leave the table.

“Sit down.” Euan commanded her in a cold voice, “Who allowed you to leave the table before your

husband?”

Riley snorted, “Husband? Mr. George, I can’t take this word anymore. I don’t deserve it. Only the

woman who is pregnant with your child deserves to call you her husband.”

“Pang!”

The dinner ended unhappily. Euan went back to the study in anger, and Riley cleaned up the

dinnerware.

After reading, Riley was going to sleep. When she opened the door of the master bedroom, Euan was

already lying on the bed!

Sleeping in the master bedroom, he was declaring his dominance in an aggressive way. He was Mr.

George. Why was he behaving like a child?

The man on the bed was not sleeping. He closed his eyes and pretended to be sleeping. Therefore,

when Riley entered the bathroom, brushed her teeth and washed her body, he heard it all.

Even if he heard it, so what?

The wall and door laid between two totally different worlds.

Euan kept a straight face and turned his head away to stop focusing on her.

After sleeping in the guest room for a night, Riley woke up and found that Euan had already left the villa

to catch the plane. She didn’t even get to see him before he left.

“Dr. Watson, what happened to our vice director?! It was supposed to be a handsome man! How come

it is a female doctor? Besides, I saw her just now and it almost sacred the shit out of me. She is indeed

very pretty, but she is too aloof!”

Who? Of course it was the woman called Jeanne Pouchain.

“Just get used to it. Besides, if you don’t provoke her, she would leave you alone too.”

Riley had not been doing well recently, so she had no time or energy for such complicated business

concerning human relations.

Jeanne had just taken this official post, so what she did first was to make an inspection tour in every

ward. A line of people, including Riley, followed behind her and made sure she had whatever she

needed.

The good thing was all tricky questions raised by Jeanne were all answered clearly and in detail by

Riley. Though being silent, the other doctors who were accompanying Jeanne were all grateful for

Riley’s wisdom and solid specialized knowledge.

But Jeanne’s eyes were still full of scorn and pride. She seemed very discontent.

“It’s easy to talk about stratagems on paper, but it won’t be as soon as you conduct practice.”

This was the remark for Riley from Jeanne after she finished making the inspection tour.

Whatever! She didn’t care.

“Dr. Watson, come over here.”

It wasn’t the end yet.

Following Jeanne to the vice director’s office, Riley stopped. Jeanne asked angrily, “You are applying

for the academic title of professor?”

“Yes, I have already got the application form.”

Jeanne sneered, “On account of what? Do you know what the academic title of professor means?”

Riley felt speechless and confused. Jeanne just took the official post. Why was she always targeting

her? Was she a lunatic!

“Vice director, vice president Nygard handed the application form to me in person. As for the question

of whether I am qualified for the application, he knew better than anyone else.”

“Vice president Nygard had already been transferred. And everything that he put his hands on will be

examined again. If you want to apply for it, go find the new vice president!”
