“Your… your Riri?”

A young doctor in the emergency room was so frightened by Sarah’s formidable aura that he didn’t

understand what she just said.

Sarah got angry.

Sarah carelessly wiped the black tears of eyeliner and mascara on her face and looked up to see

William. After running around on his feet all night, he looked exhausted and his hair was messy. But

even then, it didn’t affect his extraordinarily handsome appearance or his beautifully elegant face in the

slightest.

Sarah looked at him and couldn’t stop herself, “Fuck! Are you William Hardesty?”

William was focused on Riley’s heartbeat and he didn’t want to engage in conversation with her. He

hummed simply in answer.

Sarah gulped several times, “You… like Riley, don’t you?”

William’s face became hot and he blushed as she suddenly asked him. Then he looked at Sarah,

“Can’t I?”

Sarah almost forgot that Riley was still hanging between life and death, “Yes, you can! Of course, you

can! Dr. Hardesty, thank you, you have worked hard.”

Her tone and expressions changed way too quickly.

Sarah accompanied Riley to the observation room. She kept secretly glancing at William the whole

way. She had heard Riley mention William before, but she never gave it much thought thinking that all

the Deputy Deans and such people were always middle-aged men. Who would think that a middle-

aged man liked a female doctor in her twenties? Only a pervert does that!

But now she found out that William was a young, charming and handsome doctor.

Entering the ward, William stayed by Riley’s side. Even a thick-skinned strong woman like Sarah could

his gaze.

The only thing the pale little woman lying on the bed did was breathing. Sarah gently wiped her face

with a towel and kept accusing her, “Idiot! You are such an idiot.”

William didn’t understand what she meant by it, but he didn’t like Riley being accused, “Why are you

calling her an idiot?”

Sarah looked down at Riley with a smile on the corners of her lips and turned around to respond.

She put down the towel in her hand and looked solemnly at William. Fuck, he looked even more

handsome. Perhaps because he thought the pyjamas set was a bit inappropriate for the hospital, he

had covered it with a doctor’s white coat that the nurse brought over. His clothes inside were not visible

unless someone looked at his lower legs. He was really way too elegant.

“I said, Riley, is an idiot. Do you know about her… I mean…”

her husband?”

William nodded.

Thinking about Riley’s family background, her parents, stepmother, and step-sister, and about her

three-years of being married, Sarah’s tears began to fall again.

future.

“Miss Buchanan, you should go and wash your face. I will stay with her for now.”

Sarah was both anxious and excited, she repeatedly said, “Okay, okay. Then, I’ll go!”

Looking back after every three steps, she finally found her way to the bathroom. Sarah looked into the

mirror and got shocked. Had she been walking around talking to people with her face looking that

horrible?

She was a disgrace to her family.

William sat in the chair next to the window, picked up the towel, and gently wiped Riley’s forehead,

“Don’t worry, I won’t give up on you. Whether you decide to stay or leave, I will be there for you.”

The sky outside lightened slowly. William hadn’t slept at all through the night and had stayed with Riley.

She was the only one he could think about.

Later, Sarah couldn’t bear it anymore and fell asleep on the sofa. William looked at her sleeping figure

and smiled helplessly.

Riley was quite lucky to have such a good friend.

Riley, who had been unconscious most of the night, finally woke up. She opened her eyes and the first

thing she saw was William’s anxious but happy face. He looked at her with a smile as if she had

brought him the sunshine of the whole summer.

“You woke up!”

His voice was gentle as if nothing happened last night.

“Mr. Hardesty, why are you here? Why… am I here?”

William smiled, “You were brought here last night because you were poisoned. But now you are all

okay.”

“How about Sarah? Is she okay?”

Riley struggled to get up but was pressed back on the bed by William, “She is okay, still sleeping.”

As he said, he pointed to Sarah who was sleeping curled up on the sofa. Riley sighed in relief and

smiled at the same time, “I was scared to death.”

“You scared me… us to death.”

He smiled softly, looking tender and comforting.

“You didn’t stay here all night, did you?” Seeing him, it looked like he didn’t sleep at all.

William put one hand in his pocket and checked the IV line with his other hand, “It’s not important.

What’s important is that you woke up and that the poison has been flushed out. The hospital

procedures are all taken care of, you can rest now.”

She nodded a little apologetically. She had rejected him repeatedly and behaved indifferently and even

arrogantly towards him, but he was still so gentle to her. She really didn’t know how to face him.

“Thank you, Mr. Hardesty.”

“We have washed your stomach so you can’t eat yet. The IV will provide you with the nutrients for now.

If you get really hungry, then I will give you some glucose injections. Tell me if you feel pain or

discomfort.”

After William left, Sarah woke up. Actually, she had been already awake to witness their conversation.

Sarah laid on the side of the bed and said seriously, “Riley, if Dr. Hardesty confesses or proposes to

Sarah told her how she had called the hospital last night and asked for help and how he had run over in

slippers. She told him how desperate he looked in the emergency room and how he kept vigil the whole

night at her bedside.

“Please think for yourself. If you have a conscience, you should not let him down. The most important

thing in a woman’s life is to have a man who loves and protects her. Even though, Euan is a heartthrob

and is very rich, but what has he ever given you? William is willing to give you his life.”
