Mercedes had gotten used to Nathan purchasing everything she wore therefore, she wasn’t surprised they were delivered but what she didn’t expect was Griffin sending her a parcel for the occasion as well. Her mind was plagued with confusion. Griffin had sent an outfit for Angie as well therefore, it was just natural for Angie to insist that she wore the dress Grin got her. However, Mercedes knew that Nathan would be displeased. She hadn’t seen Griffin in a while and still had the friendship bond with him. She bought him so many clothes and he was just returning a favour. Well, Mercedes hatched a master plan with Angie’s help.

Life was full of so many incidences but it was also believed, that there was nothing like a coincidence. Everything was already pre–programmed and whatever will be will be. It wasn’t a shocker that the qualifying companies for the dinner after the summit included, Mr Hayes, Penelope’s husbands company, Gritin’s company and many others. Some old bosses who Mercedes might want to avoid like a plague and of course, some faces to make her smile.

And oh, the face that might not just piss her off but also raise her atom of jealousy. Luckily, Griffin came to pick her up and since Griffin was going with Mercedes and Angie, it was just suitable that they use Mercedes‘ new car but Griffin drove. Mercedes made a wise choice to wear the dress Grifin sent her. It was a descent expensive gown and she could see that Griffin had sacrificed a lot to get it.

“You ladies look stunning” Griffin complimented when he got to Mercedes penthouse. He was addressing both ladies but his gaze was better focused on Mercedes. Angie understood quite well, except Mercedes who was clinging to friendship.

“And you look like the powerful CEO you are.” Mercedes responded truthfully. Every time Griffin clad a suit, she thought he looked like a CEO and now, he was.

Angle looked gorgeous too and when they arrived, Nathan hadn’t arrived to Mercedes relief. She didn’t know how she would walk in with Nathan’s angry gaze pinned on her for not wearing the dress he bought

Griffin was blessed with having two beautiful ladies beside him. One to his left, and one to his right. He smiled proudly, as he greeted fellow CEOs who were jealous of him. Other guests arrived and Mercedes made quite a few acquaintances.

The hall was large, adorned with the most exquisite decorations of light and furniture. There were long tables take took up to fifty guests to allow for more acquaintance since it was a business dinner.

The table got tensed when Luke got nowhere else to sit but right beside Mercedes. He looked attractive as the devil but his chances were short–lived when he locked eyes with Angie. Karma wasn’t only a bitch but also a rod for the back of fools.

Whereas time, as they say, was also a mender of the heart and adviser to the younger generation. Initially. Luke just pretended not to know Angle and when Nathan arrived with Jane, Mercedes felt her heart throb.

Jane made sure to dress for the spotlight. Most people didn’t know that Nathan was engaged and were shocked when the announcement was made. It was just as Jane and Nathan’s dad had planned. The media was allowed to broadcast this event so Jane was certainly going to be on the covers with Nathan the next morning

No matter the expectation or how prepared Mercedes was, it wasn’t enough. Nathan wasn’t going to sit anywhere else, except beside his assistant, even when he wasn’t pleased with her.

“Luke, move to the next three chairs. I need to speak with my assistant Luke wanted to say something but recalling what happened to his precious car, he couldn’t be the next item to be roasted on Nathan’s deadly table so, like a good boy, he heeded Nathan’s request

Nathan sat and so did Jane, who decided to be clingy to spite Mercedes. It was also said, that when two people were emotionally connected, they could communicate with each other without spoken words. That was what happened between Mercedes and Nathan,

It was unexpected when Angie picked her glass of red wine and walked over to Mercedes, as if to say something and pretended to slip, pouring the red wine over her dress. “Oh Merce, I’m so clumsy,” she tried to clean the wine with a napkin while apologizing, worsening the stain. Nathan heated up. He didn’t like the dress but it meant Mercedes would have to take an early leave.

Griffin was depressed to see his hard work ruined but Angie didn’t do it on purpose right? Jane was overly excited and didn’t hide it

It’s okay Angle, it’s just a drink. I’ll get it cleaned up.

“But it’s red and the dress is discoloured,” Angie was even more sorry, concern lining her face as she spoke

“It’s okay. I’ll take care of it, Mercedes said to Angie. “Please excuse me,” she announced, lifting herself from the table.

“Til help you,” Angie said, following her. Well, Mercedes‘ master plan worked. She was torn between pleasing the two men she loved so much. Her best friend, and the man she couldn’t define their relationship. As soon as they got to the washroom, she changed into the dress Nathan bought which Angie went to pick from the car. As usual, Nathan’s style was always over the top and came with all accessories.
