She was well aware of that man’s tricks.
Even if he hated her, it didn’t mean he allowed others to touch her.
Finisher
This was also why Jessie dared not and was unwilling to owe John’s affection. Chase’s gaze felt like thorns on her back. Jessie hurriedly said, “John, don’t you have surgery later? I’ll take a taxi home after I finish handling the divorce certificate. You go first.”
“Not in a rush. The surgery is in the afternoon. I’m a bit worried about leaving you alone.”
Jessie became anxious and immediately changed her expression, saying coldly, “You and I have no relationship. You’re not someone I’m close to. Why are you so concerned about me? Aren’t you afraid of gossip?”
“If I were afraid, I wouldn’t do these things.”
“You may not fear, but I do. Even if my feelings for him have shattered, we’re not divorced yet. I don’t want people to gossip. Please don’t interfere with me anymore. My life and death have nothing to do with you.”
Jessie turned and walked away, leaving a cold and indifferent figure for John.
John came from a medical family and held a prominent position in Anceburg City, but it seemed insignificant compared to the Thompson family. Jessie didn’t want Chase to misunderstand any intentions towards him.
John felt somewhat unwilling as he watched her walk away. Indeed, what qualifications did he have to accompany her?
As he drove away, John noticed a multi–million–dollar luxury car parked by the roadside, instantly understanding what it meant. A wry smile tugged at the corners of his mouth.
He was well aware that Jessie still loved that man, Perhaps she didn’t want him to misunderstand her intentions.
John turned the steering wheel and drove away.
At this moment inside the black luvury car Warren felt the icy wind blowing

Hearing Chase’s cold snort, Warren was so scared that he almost jumped out of the driver’s seat. Stammering, he said, “Mr… Mr. Thompson.”
“He’s in the way.”
With a mournful expression, Warren said, “I’ll get out of the car right away. I’ll let my brother drive instead.”
Samuel, sitting beside him, glared at his younger brother and then nodded respectfully to Chase. “Mr. Thompson, I understand.”
ter speaking, he exited the car and disappeared into the wind and snow. Feeling incompetent, Warren patted his head, only then realising that Chase’s “in the way” referred to John.
In front of the City Hall, Jessie looked anxiously at the person approaching her.
Dressed in black amidst the white snow, he stood out conspicuously. His handsome face blended with the snow, making Jessie inexplicably nervous.
As he approached, his cold voice echoed in her ear. “Did you divorce me because of him?”
Jessie lifted her head, a hint of a mocking smile flashing in her eyes. “Mr. Thompson, that’s quite a clever question. But wasn’t it you who initiated the divorce?”
Chase ignored her words and approached Jessie with a cold aura. “Have you been with him these past few days?”
At such close proximity, Jessie could see the coldness in his eyes beneath his thick, dark lashes. Red veins streaked across the whites of his eyes, and his entire face was filled with a menacing demeanour.
Jessie denied it vehemently. “No, it’s not like that. It was hard to get a taxi today, and John happened to give me a ride.”
Chase’s thin lips curled into a cold smile. “Jessie, when you lie, your eyes tend to look up. That habit of yours hasn’t changed even now. You resisted for a year and suddenly relented. You even left behind your seriously ill father to disappear, all for that man?”

Jessie didn’t want to explain. She knew that with such a clever man, any further excuses would only make him feel like she was insulting his intelligence, making things worse.
In response, Jessie swiftly redirected the conversation. “It doesn’t matter. Let’s proceed with the divorce first.”
Before she could take a step, Chase had already grabbed her wrist. Though he didn’t apply much force, Jessie felt a piercing pain. She looked at him with displeasure, furrowing her brows.
Chase’s face contorted with madness as his voice turned cold and piercing. “I used to think divorce was the best punishment for you, but I’ve changed my mind now.”
Jessie was taken aback. “What are you talking about?”
Chase looked at her with a sinister expression. “I suddenly don’t want to divorce anymore.”
His slender fingers brushed against her cheek as he lowered his gaze, his tone icy. “Mrs. Thompson, are you happy?”
If it had been half a month ago, Jessie would have been ecstatic to hear that Chase didn’t want a divorce. But now, knowing the truth behind everything, his touch only disgusted her.
“Let me go! Chase, I want to divorce you right now.”
The man effortlessly lifted her. There was once a harbour that could shelter her from the storm, but now Jessie was left with endless resistance.
“Let go of me, Chase! Have you gone mad?”
With a vast difference in strength between them, not to mention Jessie’s current fragility, she was helpless in Chase’s hands.
As Chase placed her body in the car’s back seat, the struggle felt like intense exercise for Jessie. She panted heavily, struggling for breath as she asked, “Chase, what do you want?”
“What do I want?”
He tugged at his obstructive tie, a sneer crossing his icy gaze. “Jessie, what I want is

to see you suffer. Do you think I’m foolish enough to let you frolic with another man? I really underestimated you. You swore you’d rather die than divorce me, but then you turned around and found another man. Are you that desperate?”
Jessie’s head was pounding, and her heart felt like it was being stabbed with needles due to his provocation. She bit her lip and said, “You were so eager for a divorce, and now that I’ve granted your wish, why are you putting on this melodramatic act? You’ve been unfaithful to me long ago. Even if I were to be with someone else, what does it have to do with you?”
The next moment, the man raised his chin sharply, his voice devoid of emotion. “Everyone except you, Jessie, can attain happiness. Do you understand?”

His tie fell on either side of Jessie’s face as he leaned in. His exquisite wool coat was perfectly smooth, without a single wrinkle. His posture, towering above her, made it seem like everyone else was just a mere ant before him.
This point was soon validated. As the car turned past the median, Jessie’s gaze fell upon the line of cars queued up on the opposite side. At the front of the line was a Cayenne that had collided with the guardrail. Wasn’t that John’s car?
John had barely dropped her off before getting into an accident. Jessie’s face turned pale, and she shouted, “Stop the car!”
Even Warren, as foolish as he might be, wouldn’t stop the car now. He decided to pretend he was deaf. He couldn’t hear anything. NôvelDrama.Org content rights.
Jessie tried to force open the car door, but Chase viciously pulled her wrist and yanked her into his arms. She stumbled into Chase’s embrace.
She heard the man speak leisurely, “Feeling sorry now?”
“Are you insane? John helped me more because we graduated from the same school, and he took extra care of my dad at the hospital. There’s nothing between us. Why are you doing this?”
Chase slowly extended his hand, his cool fingertips gliding over her face. A chilly voice escaped his lips. “Because the sadder you are, the happier I become.”

Jessie weakly grasped his shirt, her body filled with anger but drained of strength. She forced herself to speak with determination. “Chase, my father sponsored Andrea’s education. Even if there’s something between them, he would never harm Andrea.”
Mentioning that name, Chase’s expression changed abruptly. His face, which had been coldly smiling a second ago, suddenly turned furious. He forcefully pulled Jessie’s body away.
“What right do you have to mention that name?”
Jessie’s back slammed hard against the solid car door, her already weakened body feeling like it was falling apart. She leaned weakly against the side, enduring the pain radiating from deep within her bones.
Chase’s sensitivity to this name indicated that she hadn’t found the wrong person. Andrea was indeed his lost sister.
But now she couldn’t summon any strength to ask further questions. She tightly closed her eyes, trying to calm her emotions and dispel the discomfort in her body.
Now, she didn’t even have the strength to argue. All she could do was curl lean against the seat.

Fortunately, before leaving, she had applied some blush and lipstick to avoid revealing her pale face.
Seeing that she refused to speak, Chase just assumed she was throwing a tantrum and ignored her. However, his fluctuating heart took a long time to calm down.
The car arrived at the Thompson Residence. Jessie was extremely weak, not wanting to move a single step.
Chase had already left, and Warren opened the car door, whispering, “Madam, are you feeling unwell?”
Before Jessie could deny it, Chase looked down at her sarcastically outside the door. “You keep using the same old tricks. Do you think acting weak will make me relent?”
Over the past year, she has resorted to playing the victim to make Chase

After waiting a few seconds and not seeing her leaving the car, Chase impatiently said, “If you don’t want me to take action against the Limberg family, you’d better get out right now.”
Jessie had just finished sending a message to John and hadn’t received a response yet. She didn’t know how badly he was injured. With gritted teeth, Jessie got out of the car.
Cold air rushed towards her as soon as her toes touched the ground. Jessie’s legs
