Sanford looked over at him, raising an eyebrow.

“Brian, want me to carry you?”

“With that small build of yours? Save your energy.

I’d hate to see you pass out and leave Maggie crying to Rosalynn and me.

Sanford scoffed, a smirk on his face, “You’re doubting me? That’s disappointing.

Well, Maggie’s probably at home, counting the minutes.

Once I bring you back safely, she’s going to think I’m a hero.

Rosalynn laughed softly.

“Yeah, she’ll definitely love you even more.

Sanford flashed a proud smile.

“Obviously.

Not many guys are as loyal as I am.

“That’s for sure,” Brian added, chuckling.

The lighthearted exchange lifted their spirits, pushing them to move a bit faster through the forest.

Leading ahead, Jamir walked in silence, their laughter reaching his ears.

His eyes flickered with a hint of something—envy.
