Chapter 52 Make Christopher Pay

“How am I bragging? Didn’t I oppose Fabian? Didn’t I force him to admit defeat?” To Frank, daring to

talk back to Fabian was already an impressive feat.

Julianna did not continue to expose her father and merely smiled. Of course, Christopher was even

more unfussed about doing so.

Feeling anxious, Cindy probed, “What on earth happened? Frank, don’t tell me it was different from

how you said it would be.”

“It was roughly the same. Of course, Christopher wasn’t too bad himself, but that was because he was

lucky. We heard from some people from Centurion Corporation that because Cordrington Corporation

had bribed Mr. Davis to remove the proposals from other companies, only ours and the Cordringtons’ Exclusive content from NôvelDrama.Org.

remained. Coincidentally, Centurion Corporation unearthed proof of Mr. Davis’ wrongdoing. Hence, the

Cordringtons got eliminated, and we wound up getting chosen,” Frank explained immediately, reluctant

for his son-in-law to outshine him.

“I knew it. So that’s how a proposal prepared willy-nilly by a retired soldier gets chosen,” Cindy uttered

coldly as a trace of disdain surfaced in her expression.

Julianna was about to open her mouth to explain, but she stopped when she saw Christopher shoot her

a look. Knowing that he did not want their mother-daughter relationship to deteriorate, she hurriedly

changed the subject. “Christopher, I know it definitely wasn’t a mere stroke of luck because Centurion

Corporation could very well have called off the press conference and selected new business partners.

There’s something I wanted to ask while we were on the way here. What trade secret Centurion

Corporation was referring to?” she enquired curiously.

Her question also piqued Frank’s interest. He had thought Christopher had just gotten lucky. But now,

that did not appear to be the case.

“That’s right. What’s the trade secret?” Frank quickly pressed.

Christopher smiled and replied, “To be honest, it’s not really a trade secret. It’s just that the piece of

land in Dragon Valley is a little special. Word has it that certain flowers and plants can be grown there,

and Centurion Corporation’s boss is an avid lover of flowers. You know how the rich are.”

“If you put it that way, it was all thanks to our family’s land, then. And here I was, thinking it was due to

your competence.”

Cindy could not refrain from snorting coldly, already reverting to her usual self. Even if Christopher had

showcased his capabilities, she would still view him as someone incompetent.

After all, what capabilities would a retired soldier possess? He has neither money, power, nor academic

qualifications. He’s just a good-for-nothing to society!

Seeing how ungrateful her mother was and knowing that Christopher was not the type of person to

defend himself, Julianna could not bear letting the latter suffer and spoke up on his behalf again. “Mom,

Christopher worked hard to prepare the proposal. He—”

“Hmph! How big of a difference do you think a proposal makes? Didn’t you hear what this good-for-

nothing said? Centurion Corporation has its eye on our plot of land. Even if you had gone to great

lengths and put in all your effort, it would’ve been for naught if it had not been for that. At the end of the

day, everything still depended on that land,” Cindy sneered.

Frank chimed in, “Yes, your mother’s right. It was all because of our family’s land.”

When Julianna noticed her parents were about to start going off again, she swiftly said, “Whatever it is,

this is good news, so let’s celebrate today. I’ll go out and get some ingredients with Christopher. We

can enjoy a sumptuous meal together.”

“You shouldn’t go, Julianna. Let Christopher go by himself,” Cindy said.

Christopher gave a wry smile inwardly but did not bother to say anything. He merely nodded and left.

Over in Harold’s office at Cordrington Corporation, Jared was still looking glum despite his father’s

words of consolation. After all, suffering defeat at the hands of a retired soldier with no power or

influence irked him to no end, even if it had only happened because Christopher had a lucky break.

“My dear son, you’re not to blame for what happened,” Harold said, comforting Jared again. The latter

responded immediately, “Don’t worry, Dad. I’ll look for someone at once to ensure we get our hands on

it. I’ll make Christopher pay and avenge the humiliation we suffered.”

As Jared spoke, his eyes blazed with fury.
